OT: Prescriptives Cosmetics to be Discontinued

I was at the Prescriptives counter yesterday to replace my empty concealer and learned that Estee Lauder, their parent company, will be discontinuing the brand by January 31!!! Wow, I have been wearing their concealer & foundation forever and was disappointed to hear the news. For anyone who likes their cosmetics, stock up!

Sorry to hear this Shana. It's hard when something we've come to rely on disappears, and then we have to find something new. :(

Oh no. I like their tinted moisturizer. We'll have to find something else, Shana!

OH NO. I rely completely on their camouflaging cream. I have never found another product that evens out my skin so well. I'll have to go buy 10000 tubes of my favorite product! This is seriously bad news for me. Sigh.

Ah, that's too bad. I hate it when this happens... and it always seems to happen when I find a favorite cosmetic or hair care product. GRR.

Wow, that surprises me. I've never used their products, but the line has been around (and popular, I always thought) for years. I hope everyone who relies on them finds new products to use!

Angie, have you tried Laura Mercier? Everyone I know who tries this loves it.

I haven't, Ele. But I shall give it a whirl. I do not wear foundation but occasionally I loved the Prescriptives tinted moisturizer. I’ll let you know how I substitute.

While I am disappointed, I guess I am not that surprised. Prescriptives was pretty huge in the 90's but I think it's popularity has waned over the years. I started using it because my mom did and I have to say that at that time, there just weren't many options, especially for foundation/concealer etc in a variety of skin colors. I actually got some of their custom foundation many years ago for my wedding because it was so difficult to find something that was a good match. I haven't bought any of their other products other than concealer for years and there are definitely way more options out there now (thank goodness for Sephora!).

I've tried Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, which is highly praised, and found it a bit too heavy. After trying a bunch of different ones, I found one that I liked at Clinque. Good luck with the search Angie!

Thanks, Shana! How was the LM heavy?

I have just stocked up on 4 of my tinted moisturizers by Prescriptives. I’m doing the same as Marianna. I’m cleaning Seattle out. And then I’ll move onto each separate US city.

A Prescriptives sales associate just called me to let me know the line was going out of business and asked if I wanted them to put any products away for me. They had 4 tubes of my camouflage cream left so they put all 4 aside for me. Very nice of them.

After I use up those 4 tubes I'll have to find something new... sigh. This product was magic for my skin and made my acne scarred skin look flawless.

Prescriptives is the only place where I can find a non-mineral powder foundation to suit my complexion. That is where I got a custom shade mixed for me for my wedding too Shana. I never really tried their tinted moisturizer. Now might be a good time then. I use Clinique's Dramatically different lotion and am running out. Thanks for the heads up!

Angie, I found the formulation kind of thick & pasty - more like a foundation than what I thought a tinted moisturizer should feel like. I tried on literally every tinted moisturizer at my local Sephora and went with Clinque's Moisture Sheer Tint. Of course, it's a very personal thing - most people love LM.

Hi. I've been using Prescriptives Virtual Matte Makeup in Blue/Red Fresh Rose 18 for years. I love it, so I'm gutted that it's gone.

I’ve been searching for an alternative. For anyone else who wears this shade, I can say that the closest match I have found is Clinique's Even Better Makeup SPF15 in 02 Fair.

I've looked at dozens of foundations, and the Clinique one is very close to the Prescriptives Fresh Rose. It may not look quite the same on the back of your hand, but on your face (well, on my face) it's as near as doesn't matter. The only difference is that the Prescriptives foundation is totally matte, whereas the Clinique one has a 'natural, luminous finish'. But, put a bit of loose powder over it and they look the same.

Hope this helps.
