I returned the larger silk halter top to J. Crew this afternoon and while I was there I tried on this jacket:

I've been thinking about a cute little swing jacket to wear with skinnies and clamdiggers since you all said I look good in them (I always thought I looked terrible). This one is not on sale on the site, but it is in the store. I took some pictures in the fitting room. I'm not used to seeing "swingy" silhouettes on me, so I honestly don't know if they work or not. In the photos I'm wearing my denim pencil skirt, but I would probably wear this with clamdiggers and skinny jeans instead. What do you all think? (And I won't be offended if you don't like it).

Ooh I like it a lot! Both the jacket itself and the way it looks on you. And I think that you could even wear it with that skirt ( in addition to skinnies/clamdiggers), since I tend to think of pencil skirts as skirt equivalent of skinnies! It would be very versatile so I'd go for it!

At last. A bit of volume! Few people on this site have been taken by the voluminous trend. We had Maya in a few pieces and Tanya in her trapeze jacket. Other than wide legged pants I think that’s been it. Refreshing!

I'm going to be odd man out. I like the shape of the jacket on you...but I'm not sure about the neckline. It looks militant to me--and I know that can be a sought after look--but I don't think it works with the swingines of the jacket. Maybe I just need to let my eye adjust. I think it would look really cute with bright red buttons though.

I am a big fan of volume. Go for it! It's always fun to try something new. You can wear a longer trapeze style since your torso is long. I had to get a cropped swing jacket because the longer ones looked funny. I think I wore it here a while back.

I hear you Nicole. I’m willing to bet you'll like this jacket the instant Ana has popped it together in her “J Crew stylish way”. You need broad shoulders to wear a collarless jacket and Ana has the goods. LOVE that you stepped out of your box, Ana. Can’t wait to see more.

This jacket is sold out online and in my store! It's weird, because just yesterday they had all the sizes in stock online at full price. I'm SO disappointed! Well, I will keep my eyes open for a similar swing style, since I know it's a good silhouette for me now. Hopefully I will be able to find something as good (or even better). Fingers crossed.

If any of you come across a swing jacket (not cropped) on your shopping journeys, let me know, will you?

Missed this thread earlier... last Fall, I scooped up a Jcrew swing jacket very much like this, except in an orangey red and it was more of a cropped style. But since it wasn't a petite, on me, it was just shorter - not quite cropped. It hits a little higher than my high hip.

You might also check out H&M. I bought a black knit swing jacket there awhile back. It has a rounded collar and just three buttons up high. They may still have the same style. Not as nicely constructed as the Jcrew, but still fun.

If you do find a jacket that is in a fall-appropriate fabric, bear in mind you'll need full-length gloves if you want to wear it on colder days! That was my only gripe about the Jcrew jacket. 3/4 length sleeves are cute but not very practical unless you have elbow-length gloves (which I don't).

Have you tried layering the jacket over a long sleeved shirt? I always thought that look was cute.

I also really like layering this type of jackets over long sleeve knitted tops, particularly turtlenecks on the cold weather.

I think that's the same one - but it looks a lot more cropped on you than on me!!!

I noticed last winter the long glove came back into the stores and with the three quarter length sleeves on jackets you need a longer glove. They should not be hard to find again this coming season.
I like the black jacket Angie was wearing in her first set of Parisian pictures (looking in the store window). It looked like it had double breasted buttons and a high collar. It looked great on her. Somehow even with the double breasted buttons on the upper half, it didn't seem short and boxy.
Ana, I thought the jacket you tried on was OK and cute but I think you can do better, especially after seeing the one Angie has.

Oh really? Let me check. I know if you go to the link above now it says, "We're sorry, this style has sold out. Please call XXXXXXX, we may have it available in a store." Maybe I caught it at a weird moment or something. It seems they've moved it to the sale section.

You can see Angie in her black jacket looking in the wondow of the Popsy store in Paris. I think it was from her first set of pictures she put on the site when she returned from Paris.
I think the line of what she's wearing makes me compare it to other jackets, and some others seem a bit boxy. Her jacket shows a shapely silhouette.
That is why I said I think you can do better. However, Angie has given the thumbs up on the one you are thinking of buying so go for it and as we know horses for courses.

San, I love Angie's jacket in that photo so much! Unfortunately down here in Austin I'd only get to wear something like that maybe 5 or 6 times a year, because it never really gets cold enough, even in winter. The swing style jacket I would get a lot more use out of, but I know what you mean about it being boxy. That worried me at first too, but I have a few ideas up my sleeve that I'll test out and definitely be posting here for opinions.

Hey, I went and got the jacket today! I popped into my JC to have a look and they had brought out a couple more in my size! They were marked $99, but it rang up at $59, so even better! I will post some outfits in the near future. Thanks everyone for all the wonderful comments and information!

Thanks for the suggestion Idahorools, but I actually don't wear Converse. I don't have anything against them, but there are other shoes that fit with my style a little better, like ballet flats. I might consider them this fall when I will be doing a lot of walking around campus, though.

Capris and converse aren't a good look unless you’re a teenybopper. You need a shoe with a lower vamp if you're going to show your legs.
