Opinion on tomorrow's outfit: yellow and coral scarf over tunic

In a fit of productivity, I decided to actually plan ahead a bit and pick out tomorrow's outfit well in advance. This gave me a chance to get a little more creative than usual and bounce my brain child off you all!

My mother gave me a scarf for Christmas in a lovely light springy fabric. Without knowing so, she also picked out one with some of-the-moment colours (yellow and coral). I thought it might be fun to wear it over cream straight-leg pants and a black tunic-type top. I think I know how to finish it off and how to style the scarf, but could use a little guidance from you lovely ladies if you don't mind.

Am I right that the pewter flats are best and the Angie knot works a bit better? I feel like the euro loop makes the scarf too short. That said, I'd prefer to wear the style that minimizes my chest more. Corey feels the long scarf looks a little busy and thinks my chest may be contributing to that idea. As for the shoes, my sense is the pewter ones provide a less jarring contrast with the pants...true or false?

One final question... Once I have the variables sorted out, I'm wondering if the colours in this scarf would work over my purple trench coat? I have a poor concept of which purples and pinks can work together. If the colours are a go, should the scarf be allowed to lie on top of the coat or be tucked in and just peak out at the neck?

Michelle, I like the scarf with the Angie knot and the pewter flats. Try tying the knot further down if that makes sense, so it makes a "v". It's too close to your neck right now.

You can totally wear this scarf with purple. I don't personally go for BRIGHT pinks and purples because it looks very little girl to me. But this pink is quite muted. Almost a neutral. Let it sit on top of the coat or tucked in. Either way is good.

Thanks for the knot-tying feedback, Maya, I totally know what you mean. Do you think this outfit needs tweaking in any way, either to spice it up or tone it down? Am I even right to put these items together?

Hmm, I feel like it could use something else. I'm not sure what. It's a nice outfit and everything works but I kind of feel like just one more thing could really elevate it. I'm just not sure what! Perhaps a jacket, belt, watch.

The "V" of the scarf will definitely help with the bust thing.

I could put on my brown leather moto jacket, but then I have cream, black, brown and pewter all in the same outfit and I picture that looking a little off...opinions?

I think it would look great, but the only way to know is with a picture! They're all neutrals so it should work.

You could always change back to black flats instead of pewter too.

The photographer has gone to bed, so a pic won't happen tonight. But if I left off the moto and just wore the outfit with trench on top, I won't make an idiot of myself will I? Would the outfit sans tweaks at least clear an 8 on the CRS?

I am going with euro loop. I think what you need to do is to scrunch up the sleeves to elbow length.

I vote pewter flats, Angie knot, and either blackberry trench or moto jacket. Do you have any chunky bracelets? That might be all you need if you wanted to add something.

That's a great coloured scarf Michelle! I vote Angie knot, as I like the length of it better.

I think the pewter and black flats both work...the colour difference is minimal on my screen anyway. But you know what? If you're thinking the outfit needs something else, I'd try red flats for another pop of colour. Maybe I'm just obsessed by red

I like the Angie knot with the black flats, personally (oooh, controversy). I just think the touch of black balances the tunic better and keeps the outfit a bit more polished. I'd love it with a bracelet or watch, and even with your pearls. I know they'd only show a little bit, but I love that look when pearls just "peek" through a scarf.

Another vote for the Angie knot, i like the pewter flats best like you said the are less of a contrast with the pale trousers though i also like tam's idea of red shoes x

Aaaaand after all that? It buckets with rain, rendering a total change of outfit necessary. Skinnies tucked into tall waterproof leather boots are a godsend on days like this!
The good news is I have more time to figure out how to spunk up this outfit. I get the sense from all of you that it needs something, so I'll work on it. A bracelet would be great, but my options are very limited. The only one I can think of that might work is a black chunky one.

Do I even look ok in scarves? I know everyone says they're slimming in general, but I truly can't picture how they work on me.

I don't think scarves are slimming on everyone. I am fairly slender, but a short necked hourglass and if I'm not careful can end up looking like I'm all boobs if I use too heavy of a scarf and or tie it too high.
I would suggest the same to you... try to tie your scarves a bit lower (to create an elongated neckline) and you should be fine.

Your outfit looks perfect for cool spring weather. I like both versions. When you add a bag, it seems the outfit would look complete. The metallic shoes are more interesting but the black shoes mirror the color of your top and my eye moves vertically to take it all in so that might be slenderizing. You look wonderful in your scarves. They frame your face and distract from your bust, visually breaking up that part of your body. Knotting them low to form a V or cowl look probably looks best.
Have you tried this version of the Euro knot that AJ linked to? The woman describes what she does (put only one end through, twist the loop and put the other end through). I'll be glad to try to describe it more if you'd like. The result is that the scarf lays flatter against the body than the Euro knot and stays put better. The length is the same.
