Nordstrom cardie frustration!!!

A while back I posted about the Halogen Boyfriend cardigan I ordered from Nordstrom. I wasn't sure about the colour I had ordered (cosmic purple), as I had wanted a darker, more grapey purple. Before purchasing I had even had an online live chat thing with a SA trying to pick between their purple hues (there were 3 available at the time, one more brown and one more blue).

I don't hate the cosmic purple, but its not the ideal shade I was after. I have already taken the tags off and worn it around the house once though.

To my frustration I have looked back at nordstrom.com today to discover not only do they have this cardigan available in the pefect purple I am after (dark purple), it is also nearly half price.

Do you think I would be justified in trying to exchange the item for the new purple colour available. Should I bother given that I'll have to pay international postage to return it? I'm just a bit confused about why their shades available have drastically changed - and wish I had waited for this new colour to arrive.

Why not just purchase it in addition to the one you have, since it's a good price?

Haha tempting Jenava, but ideally I'd like to streamline my wardrobe, rather than bulking it out. I think one purple boyfriend cardie should be enough (mind you I'm tempted to get a teal one as well now that they are on sale!)

Elgpal I don't think we have consignment stores here in Australia....not that I have seen anyway!

Each season they roll out new versions of classic favorites with different colors and/or prints.I just got it in raspberry wine to make up for the teal one I managed to ruin, although now I see that I paid full price and it went on sale, so I will be asking for a price adjustment.

I would not ask for an exchange, since Nordies isn't at fault. Unfortunately it was just bad timing. I'd do what Jenava said and just get the one you want and keep the old one too, or get the new one and sell/donate the old one. Perhaps send it to a lucky YLFer?

I think I got the purple you did, on sale. It is more of a dark lavender, yes? I don't know how different it will be from that new purple, but if it's going to bother you, I suggest you just get the new one and do a giveaway on the old, or gift it to a friend.

My friends and I do a clothing swap every year where we bring all our unwanted clothes, dump them on the floor, and everyone takes what they want - the rest gets donated to the women's shelter! Lots of wine is involved as well.

Tam, will you and the other Aussie ladies be meeting up in January for YLF swap day? You really should!

I believe that you are justified. I am very cognizant of being fair to business, afterall, we don't want them to go out of business. I feel that you gave it a whirl, you didn't abuse the product, but you are not really happy with it. Exchange it, by all means. Also, if you keep it, get on LIVE CHAT at the Nordstrom site and ask for a price adujustment. They are generally very good about it.

In the 13 months that I have been on the site, this is not something that I remember you doing, so I believe that you are being judicious and fair.

Finally, you could think of dyeing the sweater to make it more perfect.

The overwleming majority seems to be saying "suck it up" right? Interesting! I thought lots of people returned stuff there after wearing around the house etc and finding it doesn't work. I've only worn this for about 5mins at home, even though I have removed the tags.

I wouldn't mind if I bought it a whole season back, but I only received it one month ago, I guess stock is moving fast. I didn't realise this brand/style was one they would keep releasing in different colours over time, otherwise I would have waited. It seems wasteful to ebay/give away the old one since it is perfectly fine, just not the shade I was after. I guess the phrase "suck it up buttercup" is coming to mind though

Is there a ylf swap in Aus sometime in Jan? I guess I missed reading about that! But Aus is a big place - its like saying there is one someplace in the US!

There is a worldwide YLF swap. I didn't know if one had been arranged in Australia (or multiple places within Australia, as the case may be).

Yep only once around the house Maya (to take photos). Although I have cut off of the tags (why oh why!!). Hmm I'll have to hunt down this swap thread to catchup!

Jonesy I'm leaning towards that too, although don't think I'll be able to make it to the post office this week. Grrr!!

I also thought you had really worn it - if it was just a test run, I would exchange it. A few minute trial is different than an all-day wearing!

I think the only potential problem you'll have is that you cut off the tags. Do you still have the tags? Since Nordstrom is so nice, you will probably be fine, but absolutely call them before sending it back and tell them that it is unworn but you cut the tags and then changed your mind. That way you can confirm they will take it back and they can make a note in your account about it. (This is why I don't cut the tags until I am absolutely positive I'm keeping something and about to wear it out of the house. I'm so bad that sometimes I forget to cut them and wear the items out of the house with the tags still in them.)

I don't feel bad about it from the wearing point of view, as I have had it on for less than 10 minutes. I have cut off the tag though, so don't know if that'll be a problem. Might have to go read Nordstrom's return policy. I think I have finally put my finger on what bothers me about the cosmic purple - it looks garishly bright against black.With other colours it is of course still bright, but with black it just looks cheap (as Trinny & Susannah would say). A nice grapey colour works well with black I think though. This is a problem with so much of mywardrobe being black. I think I am going to take a gamble and send it back!

Hmm, I think that we always take that risk once we cut the tags off an item. The same exact pair of boots that went on sale on another website, a color that would suit us better, maybe we should've sized up - as we realize after a while. Since you want to size up anyway, I'd try to talk to Nordstrom about the item being new, just without the tags, and trying to exchange it for a bigger one in the color you want. Nordstrom will most probably exchange it without asking (would be great if they could do the price adjustment as well!). That said, I would not try doing it once the tags are cut, but that's me (I'd Ebay it or swap or make another YLF'er happy).

Return it! Every time you wear it (if you wear it) you'll think it's the "wrong" color. Consider the difference between what you paid and the current sale price to cover the international postage. Order what you truly want and wear it happily.
