New hair cut

So I took the plunge and asked my stylist to do the inverted bob thing with my hair. First two pics are right after the hair cut, she blew dry my hair to straighten it out. Last two pics are after washing today at home, I just put the mousse in and let air dry. What do you guys think?
I asked her to give me a short angle as I want to try it out first. But I think she also did not give me enough layers at the back.

Your hair is lovely...I have a similar type of thick and curly hair...My stylist layers is around...This eliminates some of the stand-out which my hair has a tendency to do...
I guess I would ask her to look at the cut again and see if she thinks it needs more layering...

crutcher, I asked her for more layers at the back but she said it would not look as good. I did not ask her again as I was not sure myself so I thought I will get YLF's opinion before making my decision. Do you have layers in the front too?

I do...He thins it out all over and just snips the layers around...Mine is flyaway and looks better with the taming...My hair is just a tad below shoulder length...We both have great hair but it is a beast to tame...I use Brilliant Aveda as a styling tool if that helps..

This is hard for me to comment on because I don't have thick hair. I have had the inverted bob haircut, though. I don't know if more layers are the answer, but perhaps a more dramatic angle would be nice. That said, I also think it looks good the way it is.

It looks great but you likely know your hair better and also what look you were after. I wonder if Aida will chime in - she has similar hair (at least it looks similar).

I think it's good to go with your gut! I'm not a hair stylist, but the back does look heavy and lacks movement. I would go back and just say that to your stylist and see what she suggests. It might need some texturizing or thinning, as opposed to more layers.

I've got an inverted bob but as you've seen, my hair is pretty straight. I like the idea of this but would like to see more of your curls - your hair is so thick and gorgeous!

Came back to look again. More layers would emphasize the curl in back in a good way I think. Do you like Aida's hair in her last cut photos?
If so, maybe you could take in her photo to your hairdresser?

Hmm it's too subtle an angle don't you think? The cut, to me, looks more like something for someone with straight hair. Not enough movement in back, as Keturah said, and it looks more like the layers are angled rather than the whole body. Since you're just trying the look out, I do think it would look good to have the back taken up a bit more so the angle is more obvious (it reads as a normal shoulder length cut to me). Maybe 2" to start with? The layers would have to go up a bit, too.

texstyle, actually I worked up the courage after seeing Aida's hair. Thank you for posting the link. The visuals are very helpful. The big difference between my and Aida's hair is that her curls start right at her roots and mine are more towards the ends.
Aida, I asked for a subtle angle as I was not sure how this will turn out so you agree that I should go shorter. The layers will go shorter too and may be that will give me the curl and movement that I am looking for. what are angled layers, btw?

I am so not an expert on curls but it looks like there's an entire underlayer in the back that could be eliminated. You would get more of a wedge look that way...

Here are two much shorter examples and the third is me for comparison.

Ah, your angled bob is beautiful!
I was trying to not go so short. I want to still preserve some length at the back but I see what you mean. Just made another appointment with my hair stylist. It may not work out for my type of hair but I am open to experiment.

If you look along the bottom line of your hair, it doesn't angle up much. Una's hair is a great very pure example, you can see that the line of the hair angles upwards quite dramatically (not saying you should go this angled of course). Yours is fairly straight along the bottom but if you look at the line the layers make, that angles up towards the back. You want the whole thing to angle, both the bottom line and the layers lines.

Having the layers will lighten up the top hairs which should get you a more overall curly look. As you said, your hair curls at the ends. The more of the "ends" you create in the cut (via layers) the more curls your hair will appear to have. You're right that my hair does start curling much higher up, but having a lot of shorter layers so that the ends curl at all different lengths is what makes my hair look the way it does.

Got it, Aida. I was hoping to keep the length while having a lot of layers. So I tried to explain to my hair dresser if she could give me more layers while keeping the bottom part at the same length. But she was hesitant.
She kept saying that the layers will only go shorter if I take the bottom up as well (thus giving it a more dramatic angle).

I was thinking a line similar to the photo below (taking up only the back, no need to change the front). Will that be too short for you?

No, I think I will have to go this short. So I will ask her to chop off 2 inches from the back and leave the front alone. I have made an appointment for Saturday and will post pics after.

Well, I am ignorant about how to deal with longer wavy/ curly hair, but you have beautiful hair, and that is all there is to it! It sounds as if you are getting some good advice.

Mona, your hair is so lovely! I also have an inverted bob and while I don't have quite as much thickness or lovely curls as you do, I think Aida's suggestions are spot on. I'd like to see it with a bit more angle in the back - I think it will look fantastic! One word of caution, the shorter the layers, the harder it can be to pull it back. Although with the length you have, that probably won't be an issue. Did I mention how beautiful your hair is?!

Mona I am very bad at hair advice but the suggestions above sound good. I have sort of similar hair that is thick (well it was thicker even when I was younger) and curls towards the end but not near the root and well done layers and less length always worked best for me to reduce the heaviness and make it move.

You have gorgeous shiny hair. I have an angled bob, sometimes more angled than others. You will like it shorter in back for wearing collars. I have mine more angled (shorter in back) in winter to accommodate shirt collars, coats, scarves and turtlenecks better.

Because the front is so much longer, even if you go shorter in back (by the 2 inches you are thinking) you will still be able to pull it back in a pony tail or bun for occasions when you might want it up (like working out). FWIW, I like your hair better in the later pics, when you style it yourself and let it curl more.

Your hair is gorgeous, Mona. I like the new cut--even as it is, it is a nice change. I like the idea of shortening the back more on your next cut, for more of an angle.

Christy, I agree that shorter layers will make it tricky to pull it back. I don't usually tie my hair in winter. It is usually the warm days of summer when I like to make a knot or a ponytail for some ventilation.

Hmm, I have an inverted bob on thick hair but like Una's mine is very straight. I do not have layers these days. I actually have an undercut in back, where the underlayer is cut shorter to prevent the back from poofing out too much. I have a fairly sharp angle although right now it's too not so obvious because I havent' gotten a haircut in forever! My hairdresser cuts it so that the front frames my chin, whereas the back is close to my hairline at my neck, so there's quite a bit of length difference.

I like the way yours looks and I think it would be great with a sharper angle too. I am not sure the undercut would work on curly hair (but ask your hairdresser!) but it does serve to make the effect of the inverted bob more dramatic.

The hat picture is with it grown out a bit, the second picture is straight from the hairdresser.

Mona, you've seen how short my hair is and I am able to pull it up into a high pony (with a few clips). I think you won't have any trouble putting it up

Diana, great visuals. Your angle is much sharper but I think less than Una's. This is the first time I am hearing about under cut. I think for curly hair, under cut will result in less curls and may not look as great as it does on straight hair.
Aida, You look great in your pom pom hair style. Is there an end to your lovely glamorous style ever?
