New additions to the wardrobe: overview

Thought I'd keep you up-to-date what's happening at the moment in one post, in case anyone is interested. Besides the shoes in #1 everything was bought on Ebay, so keeping the expenses low.

Dark green smoking slippers. I do have problems keeping ballet flats on my feet, so we'll see if I can make these work. But I thought they'd be worth a try. I phoned my mum today and she said she'd cover a new pair of shoes, I probably wouldn't have ordered them otherwise.

Striped pencil skirt my way? I hope it will fit. Brand is People Tree, so high quality.

New denim jacket I had asked about. I really hope the measurements were accurate and this will fit as imagined.

New oxfords. High quality shoes - I'm definitely taking a chance buying shoes on Ebay, but these are new and went for 30% of the normal retail price. Wide width, completely leather.

Floaty wool and silk blend skirt, lined in silk. It's a tad too big and still needs to be taken in a bit at the waist.

It's all very nice Astrid. New shoes from eBay should be no problem really, as long as it's a reputable seller. Keeping my fingers crossed that the bikini works for you - it's such a tricky item to buy online.

Thanks Daria. The bikini is a bra sized one and I've done my research online beforehand, in a German bra fitting forum. I've been comparing recommendations with styles known to me. So chances are not too bad that it will fit. But of course it's still tricky. They don't sell my size in Germany in B&M stores, so I had to order online.

I loved that bikini so I'm glad it worked for you. Just wear it with a smile and your head held high the first time, and, after an hour, you'll wonder why you waited so long to get one.

Wise words, Gaylene! And I suspect you're totally right. I sent some pics of me wearing it to a friend and she loved it and comfirmed that it was all in my head.

Oh and I've taken the black skirt for alterations today, I can fetch it next week.

I think you need to change into your bikini every night and wear it like lounge wear, in private, just until the "strange" wears off. You have to get comfortable with it, just the two of you, before you can get comfortable with it and other people. And I can't wait to see your other choices when they arrive!

Lovely items! I hope they are bringing your style more in line with your fantasy? As for the bikini, if I can wear one at 50, you can surely wear one! Body type doesn't play a role in my thinking here. Look at my recent post about Bikini's and develop some confidence by reading the replies. We can and should all wear them with confidence, and unlike me, you have youth on your side!

Thanks Style Fan! Yes, this fits way better than anything I've tried on in stores. Bra sized swimwear really makes a difference!

Thanks Staysfit - I know, it was your thread that made me order a bikini and not a tankini. And yes, hopefully the new pieces will work out like that.

Got the pencil skirt and it's definitely more pencil than the one I tried in the store! It's snug, but I'm always fluctuating a bit so I think it's fine. It's also too long, I have it pinned up in the pics. What do you think? Is the length alright?

And the smoking slippers from #1 arrived and I'm going to return them. They don't fit well and they don't look too good on my feet either. I don't think the style works for me, same as ballet slippers I guess.

Sorry about the shoes. I think the skirt fits well; if you know you're on the high end at present, I'd definitely keep (I've bought that way before and it worked out). I'd say good length, or a touch shorter depending on your comfort zone showing the knee. What do you think? Does it go with lots of your tops?

Thanks! There's no returning it anyway, just reselling. I do think with the skirt being so tight I'd be more comfortable having the knees covered. This is definitely a summer skirt btw, I see myself wearing it with bare legs and without hose. Tops shouldn't be a problem, I plan to just throw some tee over it or maybe my loose blue button down.

I like the pencil skirt on you--it shows your shape in a good way. As long as you feel comfortable and confident in it, I'd second your decision to keep it. It gives you a nice alternative to all your fuller skirts. I also like the pinned length--nice with bare legs in the summer.

I personally think smoking slippers are a hard shoe style for many women. If they work, they look great, but if they don't, they can be really unflattering. My size 10.5, wide in the front/narrow in the heel, foot really looks awful in a smoking slipper so I understand where you are coming from in your decision to return those shoes--even my hiking boots looked better on my feet!

Thanks Gaylene! Yes, I'm pretty comfortable in it. And seems we have similar feet, mine are also wide in the front. I do think I need shoes that are closed or have crossed straps in the middle or something similar.

I like you in the pencil skirt! Too bad the smoking slippers didn't work; I have a similarly shaped foot to Gaylene's & my heels would probably walk right out of those. I hope everything else does work; I'm especially in love with those oxfords.

Thanks Eva! Actually, the oxfords arrived two hours ago - I hadn't expected they'd still deliver that late in the evening. They're really comfortable! Even with bare feet. But they'll work with hose too, maybe also thin socks. They're darker than the pictures suggested, more taupe than grey. But a great color. I did only take a quick pic with my phone, I didn't want to get the camera out again.

I'd say your batting average is excellent, Astrid. The oxfords look comfortable and easy to incorporate in outfits. The bikini is brilliant. The pencil skirt is fab (and I do like that length).

And smoking slippers? I feel your pain on those. I have similar issues. I guess it is the shape of the foot. Oh well. Onwards!

Love the new shoes, and the skirt is great. And well done on the bikini.

I'm another one who struggles with slip on shoes such as ballet slippers, loafers. I have pretty much given up on them now and stick to sandals, lace ups, and boots. I can wear pumps but I prefer a heel with a strap.
