Never say never: dark red & light blue, and white after labor day

OK, so I did say that I had a negative reaction to light blue,and I never wear it... but somehow chambray doesn't count!
I LOVE all the dark red this fall, and jumped when this J Crew cardigan was on sale. It's a nice substantial double knit that will be toasty warm for cooler weather, and a little more jacket-like than some cardigans. I love it!
Warning: it runs really big. I'm usually a medium, but I'm wearing a small here, and it's still plenty big.

Here's a second potential outfit with the same cardigan, too. Should I roll the jeans more, or maybe have them hemmed a little?
I haven't worn either of these yet, because it's still hot here, but I'm planning what to pack for a mostly casual trip in a few weeks, and these outfits are on the short list.
I would welcome your frank comments and suggestions for improvement.

You are one of the reasons I keep trying to wear a scarf. You always look so great in it - are you French? I know you've been to Paris...
I like as is, but you could play with the cuffs on the bluejeans - maybe one big cuff?
The dark red is lovely on you - good buy for you.

Both iterations are perfect, and as for an extra roll on the blue jeans? Maybe to add a bit of skin to balance the extra volume in the sweater.....but fine the way it is too.

I can't believe this is a size small in the sweater! It really does run big, but I love this size on you. What gorgeous looks, both of them. They have me hoping we will have more fall weather soon. I think the chambray looks fab with the sweater and I love the scarf in the second pic. I like the jeans rolls as they are. Perfect!

Jeanne- I'm flattered about the scarves! You know, I never felt comfortable in scarves until I had spent time in France. After seeing how the women (and men!) wear them there, you get less worried about how to wear them, and just kind of throw them on. I think the key is not over-styling or over-thinking them.

Gorgeous! I love that deep red on you--and what a perfect sweater. You know, all you need is a deep pink T shirt with those cognac accessories ann you'll be wearing a version of Angie's deep red, orange and pink ensemble.

Jackie, the booties seem comfortable so far, although I haven't worn them out of the house yet.
I think they'll be more comfortable with socks than barefoot as I'm wearing them here. I did put a Superfeet insole in them, which feels great!

Wonderful outfits! Gorgeous fall scarf, and the booties look great - I hope they prove to be comfortable since they would work well for many fall outfits. I agree that the jeans in the second outfit could possibly be folded up a bit more but they also look good as is.

I'm sometimes and XS and sometimes a S in J Crew sweaters -- I like an oversized fit and have the square shoulder line to carry it (despite a lack of height...) but do you think I should size down to XXS? About to order tonight?

And thanks for your tip re the Schoolboy. I'll let it go for now and continue looking for the right jacket.

Is the sweater more a red burgundy or a brownish burgundy, would you say?

Suz, I tend to think that you'd like an XXS unless you really want it oversized.
I'd say it's more of a reddish burgundy. The color in my picture #2 is pretty true, I think.

Thanx for posting this. Love your interpretation of blue and dark red, nr 1 is my fave as has a lot of white, and love those cognac booties! I am taking notes for some ankle boots suitable to pants, I first wanted black, but these are looking, fab too!
