Need Help With Accessorizing - YouLookFab Forum

Hi Fabbers,

I need your collective help again today!

I have to go out for a dinner get-together tonight. My husband's boss (he's here from the U.S.) has invited the top management for dinner. It's just 10 people, the dinner is at a 5 Star hotel, but I don't think it'll be very fancy. I doubt many people will change out of their work outfit (my husband will not) but I could be wrong. Plus the spouses who will come from home could be dressed slightly fancier.

I want to wear my new cobalt blue dress. But I'm kind of confused on how to accessorize it. I've put together a few looks with different shoes, handbags and necklaces. Which one is the best?

1-2: Black 1- inch heel sandals with ankle strap, gold necklace and black clutch.

3-4: Powder blue ankle strap sandals, navy blue clutch and a chain link necklace

5-6: Nude pointed toe pump, beige bag and thin double chain necklace in gold

7-8: Taupe and black peep toe shoes, dove grey bag and layered gold necklace

9-10: Here I'm wearing a layered silver necklace, taupe and black peep toe shoes from the previous look and the same black clutch bag from Look 1.

I know the difference between all these looks is minimal. I just need your help choosing the shoes, necklace and bag.

I'm also adding a picture of all the necklaces I've worn.

Can you think of some other style/color of shoes or bag that'll look better? Maybe I haven't thought of it....so feel free to give me your own accessorising advice.

I like the necklace in #1 best with the dress. For shoes and bag I like either the black clutch with the peep toes (#9) or the smaller beige bag and nude pumps combo (#6). I think I would pick depending on how much you want to carry with you and which shoes are more comfortable.

Thanks a ton, Astrid. Both shoes are equally comfortable. I really don't have to carry much....just my phone and house keys and maybe a lipstick at most.

FYI: I do have black peep toes as well as black pumps to go with the black clutch.

I think then I'd go with the black clutch, with so little to carry. And I like the peep toes you're wearing here, I think with the solid colored dress and clutch the pumps with the black trim give a bit of interest.

I think I like #1/2 the best followed by #9/10 with #5/6 coming up in third place. No...actually, I think I like 9/10 best as I really like those pumps with the black line across picking up on your clutch.

Thanks a ton, Suz. This is a new splurge! The first outing for my dress.....and I love the shoes n clutch option you guys have picked.

These shoes do not get much wear as they are high heels. But I've kept them for such occasions where I have to do little but sit, and it's a good idea to wear them today.

I like the blue/black combo in 1/2 and 9/10. The peep toe shoes are great but so are the shoes in no 1. I would probably skip the necklace and just wear the bangle in 1 (even though I am a jewellery maximalist!). I really like no 5 but more as a daytime option. Any of the options will look good

I like it with the black shoes in 1/2 or the peeptoes in 9/10. I like the necklaces in those two as well. I hope this helps and you have fun.

Number one, with bag and shoes, no additional accessories. You look beautiful.

Used the bag and shoes in 9/10 with the necklace in 1. The outfit looked great but the shoe ended up being super uncomfortable. I have a huge blister on my big toe, right below my nail where the peep toe edge rubbed against the skin. These shoes have to go!

Recently, I've purged many old favourite heeled shoes. I find that most are uncomfortable and I have no patience for them. I might add a pair of grey sandals to my shoe collection. I find sandals more comfortable with their open design. However, they lack the classy touch of closed or semi-closed shoes. However, no point buying shoes that hurt!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I loved the final outfit, though I was quite overdressed. Everyone else arrived in their work clothes

I was going to say I'd like to see the nude pumps with the beige purse and the chain link necklace, but I see that this is past already!
