Without knowing your own reservations about hemlines, it looks absolutely wonderful on you, and I could see it working well with black tights and booties [that's the Ontario gal in me speaking].

Suz, this is stunning on you. The length doesn't bother me at all, as long as it isn't something you'll be fussing with every time.

I like this as both a dress and tunic when it gets a little cooler. I vote keep.

I love it! The longer back balances out the shorter front, and gives it enough coverage for sitting and appropriateness.

I don't think that the length is a problem, and in fact, I think having a variety of hem lengths is FUN. You have great legs, it's covered up everywhere else, including the back, and I just think it offers something a little different that could be, yes, FUN in a more "dress up" dress. Additionally, gorgeous color, versatile shape....what's not to love??? If it came in my size, I'd buy it too!

I don't think this looks short, at all. I personally would definitely wear something this length. And shorter even. However, having said that, my gut reaction was that it looked short FOR YOU. See, I even have preconceived notions about what you wear, so I can certainly understand how you must feel!

So I think this is a matter of you being confident that it looks good on you, and let yourself get used to the length and learn to be comfortable with it.

And please do. Cuz you need to rock this dress in public somewhere!

It looks fantastic on you. I don't think too short as the back is longer and the dress is loose. You look very polished in it.

You definitely have the legs for this dress and it seems age appropriate. But it is shorter than the other dress you posted and you've been wearing longer lengths. Will you be comfortable wearing this length?

One other small thing - you might try it on with hose/tights just to make sure it doesn't catch on them. Some dress (unfortunately, I know from experience) catch on tights and ride up.

I think it works because it's not a skimpy sort of shorter dress and it's a beautiful color on you and it's flowy and just plain pretty! I'll bet it will look lovely in fall/winter too with hose or tights.

I think the my response to the "Is it too short?" question depends on when, where, and how you'd happily wear the dress. Objectively, the dress looks great, so no doubts there, and I'm all for baring knees regardless of age.

I have noticed that my own preferences have changed as I've grown older. Date nights, parties with friends, and summer festivals still have me happily reaching for my shorter skirts and dresses, but restaurants, galas, and the theatre, especially in the fall and winter months, are a different story. In those situations, I find myself craving a more sophisticated, adult look that is easier to pull off if my skirts are mid-knee or lower. Even when I'm wearing darker hose and boots, my shorter skirts just don't make me feel as good as do my longer ones when I'm in that mood.

If the dress is pricey, maybe think of when and where you might wear the dress before deciding. The dress looks lovely on you, and, objectively, the length is fine, but only you can judge the circumstances when you'd reach for that particular dress.

Oh my gosh! With those legs, major YAY! Gorgeous!

I agree it's great on you. I'm thinking it's a wear-right-now/September dress. Pre-Fall. For Fall, there are the tights as suggested. What about leather leggings for fall and more warmth? Finally, do you have jackets you could layer on top of it, and then finally a coat, to get a look that would work in late Fall/early Winter like Christmas time?

The collections on Angie's A/W 2015 pin board show so much creative layering, I could see a silk tunic like this working really well.

ETA -- I wanted to add that with flash photography, there's a tendency to over emphasize bare legs. The flash creates shadows and a shiny-ness that makes you see LEGS whereas if I turn off the flash, the look is different. Pic one: middle aged woman in shorts. Pic two: middle aged woman in SHORTS! Does anyone else see this leg emphasis or is it just me?

I really love it on you Suz, I love the style, the shape and the length. I see layering options for cooler weather too. While it is fashionable I see it having longevity.

When I posted my dress pics I really felt the most popular polka dot dress was too short. When I looked in the mirror that was my feeling. Objectively it was fine. So it just comes down to your preference here.

I think the dress looks great. I love how the back is longer than the front which balances out the shorter front. No worries that it's too short. It looks fine and you definitely have the legs to wear it.

Wow. Right shape for right shape.

So, I wanted and want it to be a tich longer, because I think that would be elegant and NO WORRIES whatsoever, super-versatile.

OTOH, my "wish it were longer" eye isn't poisoned and all tsk-tsky, nothing "wrong" with shorter with this dress, just wondering about events and such and the vibe you want for them. I expect you and Mr. Suz can create adequate date-night and party nights for it. It does not have the same sort of glamour of the CM dress but does have a fun and dressy look.

I like what Gaylene said, re: different looks for different venues. So I would style it in those various ways you mentioned and see if some of them look good with the dress (vs. if they interfere with its intent, are merely "oh, winterize this dress with tights"). Because I think the length is less acceptable in winter-mode even if the venue inside were warm, KWIM? If you get good, sophisticated looks (different for sure, but still looking "right" for the dress proportions and color palette) more covered up and also feel good about fun-knees events for late summer-early fall, then that would make it a versatile dress.

It looks stunning on you! Keep. Even if it's one of those special pieces you only wear a couple times a year. No one is going to think it's too short; they'll be too busy admiring you!

Suz, I just want to add that I did not see the length issue at all and still don't. I would wear it at your length too. But do make sure you feel comfortable walking in it - I have some dresses that feel fine barelegged when I'm standing, but when I walk down the street I feel self conscious.

I think it looks amazing on you, Suz. And no, I don't think it's too short. Your legs look fantastic. When it comes to length I tend to go by what an item looks like on the wearer, not their age.

Suz, this is just beautiful on you. I am the first person to worry about age appropriate and length. It's a pet peeve of mine. But I can't say enough how there's *no* risk of inappropriate here (and I've had a glass of wine...or 3...so I have zero filter in the brutal honesty department right now). This dress is slammin' GORGEOUS on you. The coverage on top offsets the length perfectly. This is a beautifully designed, versatile dress that is made to be worn by you. Please keep!

Thanks so much for all your thoughts -- I truly appreciate them. My gut says keep the dress and enjoy it -- like this in warmer weather and with leather pants (gah -- must buy!!) or other bottoms in cooler weather, or tights, and layered with some kind of jacket. I will try all possible stylings when I get back from my trip. Leaving early tomorrow.

Thank you all again -- super helpful.

ETA -- it feels just fine in motion and sitting and standing -- for summer. Not sure how it might feel at a later time of year -- I agree that it might feel too exposed then, even with sheers. But the fact is, I have to wear hose in colder temps, so in a way it is moot.

You look great in it. Do you feel ok in it? If so, you should keep it.

What a treat! The dress is absolutely gorgeous on you. The neckline is perfect. I love the color although I believe all of you in person viewers that say it looks a bit different irl. Your legs look fantastic. But I will share what went through my mind: "hmm, will that dress be as short on me? that might not work well at the bar mitzvah." Suz, you know I am playing to a particular crowd in my head, and for them this dress at this length on me, it might be too short for that occasion (but I am shorter than you and take a bigger size so we'll see). Apart from any such very specific instances, I have no problem with the length. But I would wear the equivalent of biker shorts underneath just in case.
Oh, so keep! :-)!

In answer to all questions about how it feels -- it feels fabulous! It's just a gorgeous happy cut for me. And I think steaming it out will make it fall just right. I also like the idea of leather pants or even leggings (HA!!). So...chances are I will keep. But I'll post again after my trip. In the meantime -- thank you!!

oh -- and yes -- I think I have the right kinds of events to wear this at. And...no hem to let it out.

Hi Suz --

Man, I'm kind of an eyebrow-raiser about hem lengths IRL so I do enjoy feeling like a slattern on YLF every so often!*

I wasn't logged in when I first saw the discussion -- I thought the hem would be a lot shorter, ha! Absolutely no issues here re any venues, so if you're ok with the knees on parade, Ms Midi, ditto.

It's very pretty on you, so enjoy!

*My NAS dress/tunic has a similar hi/low situation and is about this length plus it has small side slits. So you're the Queen of England in comparison.

Hahahah, Vix, I will just call up my milliner and see if she can whip me up a little matchy matchy hat!

Maybe that would even please the bar mitzvah crowd? Hmmmm.

In all seriousness, to Gaylene's point and Shevia's -- I would not wear this dress to: a religious ceremony, a funeral, a lunch party with a group of 90 year olds, or even (maybe) an event where I had to be on a dias and weirdos might be tempted to look up.

I would wear it to: a cocktail reception, a dinner with hubs, a party with friends, the theatre, opera, etc.

To Gaylene's second point, it wouldn't feel appropriate for me in cooler weather. I would definitely want hose and I would like to feel more covered. It would work as some kind of tunic then-- if I can find the right bottoms. And in mid range temps it would work with sheer hose. I don't think it will look good with opaque hose on me due to my hair colour. Sheer nude or black/ charcoal, I think. Unless maybe with flat boots and opaque hose plus some kind of topper.

Looks amazing on you, Suz. You have a fit and healthy body. No need to cover it from head to toe. There is coverage on the neck and arms so a little leg in front doesn't put me off one bit. I love the color and cut on you. If your gut says throw caution to the wind, do it. You only live once. Plus, how many luncheons with 90 year olds do you go to anyway?

Suz, the dress is just lovely on you. It reminds me a littleof my navy Witchery dress and that is a similar length at the front. I don't think it's too short, as long as you are comfortable The colour, even though the photo is off on colouring, is one that will look so beautiful on you. And I like that this could be worn as a dress or as a tunic, so multiple options. Keep

Damn... I haven't been following the NAS thread (it makes me want to shop!) and missed this one.

You look FABULOUS, Suz! I don't think the length looks too short. It's amazing just as it is....wear it as a dress in summer, and as a tunic with leggings once the weather cools. It IS versatile.

I want to make another point here. I have a red dress that I love very much, but it does 'feel' short to me sometimes. I have found that wearing pretty flat shoes with the dress completely takes care of that problem.

While the okalas look stunning, they do have a heel. If you wear pretty strappy sandals that read 'dressy' and 'summery', the proportions will change. It's not inappropriately short with heels either, btw. But with flats, it'll feel 'just the right length'.

Gosh, I am torn. It's lovely in so many ways! Ultimately it comes down to your comfort level, especially if you envision wearing this bare-legged most of the time. I am going to echo alaskagirl...how does it feel if you are striding along? Is the weight heavy enough to keep the dress from flying up? I have regretted purchases that look and feel fine in front of the mirror, but behave very differently when I am in motion outdoors on a windy day!

And GRRRR... Why do items get shorter with smaller sizes?

Wow, you DO have great legs-and it's not at all about age inaproppiateness-but I would like to see them with flatter shoes. I know Okalas are not too high, but they seem a bit too dainty for the style of the dress, if you know what I mean. Would try them with flats/low wedge flats or so. I just went back and saw your other dress, that has the perfect (hi low)length to my eyes, but YLF in both!
