NAS Keep or Return - the unstructured top edition

I love the look of billowy, unstructured tops on others, but they rarely work on me, since they often overwhelm my frame. What do you think of these? Any keepers? Or should I give up?!

#1-4. Pleione - I like the boho vibe of this, and it's very lightweight for polyester which is a plus. But I'm not sure it's doing me any favors from the side. (I picked this up to replace the Pleione sheer floral that was on Angie's NAS list, as the tabbed sleeves felt too heavy for me on that one).

#5-6. Olivia Moon - this is not actually from NAS. I loved the colors when I was at Nordstrom's this weekend and picked it up.

#7-10. Frenchi - this was on Angie's "Cape Fear" list - it hangs a bit lower on me than on the model, so I'm not sure it's very flattering.

I really like the navy one and the white one, but I'm not a fan of the colors of the second on you. I think the volume up top works nicely with your skinnies in general, though.

I love 1 and 2. Maybe someone can suggest how to style that last one, it's not really working for me.

Wondered where you've been....
I like the Pleione much better with the denim than the white.
I do like the Olivia Moon on you very much.
I don't care for the last one with the bootcuts.. with the skinnies and jeans I like it better but I'm not sure I'd give it a 10.. I have to think on this one a while.

Oh my goodness how fun! I LOVE the cape! Outfit #10 is KILLER. I like it with the bootcuts too, but the bookending in #10 is *perfect*.

You look fab in the blouses as well. Very nice combinations.

I'd give the Pleione a 10 as styled with the jeans and boots (3/4) and 7-10, especially 9/10, is also fabulous. I'm not as excited about the Olivia Moon, although it's still a good look on you. I'd like to see it with the jeans in 7/8.

Love the voluminous look on you, sarah! What fab blouses. I think the Frenchi is my fave followed closely by the Pleione but I think all will serve you well. I vote a big, fat KEEP!

Tee-hee, Angie, I was rather proud of my book-ending in #10 when I put that one together, especially since I didn't even know what that meant 6 months ago ; ).

I'm glad these are getting the thumbs up, because they're such comfortable outfits. I can imagine the ones with skinnies as my weekend go-to outfits all fall and winter...

Sarah I love the first and third tops on you. They look GREAT. The second one, the Olivia Moon, isn't working for me I think because of the white pants.. im not sure. The colours are gorgeous and i think they should work for you, however I would like to see a darker bottom, maybe a denim or even a black. Thanks for posting, I love your WIW:)

OK, I confess I am clueless...what is the bookending in #10? Is it black boots and tank or something I am missing altogether?:-(

LOL, Sveta - yes, because I have blond hair, I have to bookend black boots, leggings, or pants with black somewhere up top - in this case, it's the cami.

Sarah, I was the same way about unstructured tops - loved them on others, not so much on me. I think it takes some time to get used to it. If it helps any, I think you look terrific in this style!

These look great. My absolute favorite is the Olivia Moon...if you had to pick only one, I'd go for that one hands-down!

I like billowy tops too, but I have the same reservations that you do. For what it's worth, I love the first blouse and the cape, especially styled with the skinnies. I don't love the Olivia Moon one as much, but I think that may be my personal aversion to olive-y greens and not an objective view. When the top is voluminous, I tend to like it better with pretty fitted bottoms.

I looove the last one and really like the first one! I am ambivalent about the second one, but not sure why...Maybe worn with dark denim? Maybe it seems more fall-y to me? Can't quite put my finger on it...But overall, you can totally wear these shapes--you look fab!

love love love #10. i adore the green blouse, but not too keen on the boots. maybe sandals to lighten up the whole outfit? or wear the pants over the boots?

That cape looks like it was MADE for you! Such a lovely color on you too!

Also loving the green blouse...is that a peacock print? So cute! The white pants look a smidge wide for those boots, so I might try a slimmer leg pant or a different shoe/boot.

Sarah, the Frenchi cape is awesome on you. Definitely keep and layer and have fun with that beauty!

The billowy tops are so lovely, too. Try them with the half tuck and a fun belt, too. I like them very much untucked, also. Great pieces for vests when the temps get chillier.

These tops look nice. Of course we all look at things with a different eye, but I prefer the white print top with the dark jeans.

I LOVE the green print. The thing that would hold me back from it is perhaps something awkward about the sleeve lenght/cuff thing going on? Maybe that's what throws it off for some people. But the pattern and color are so pretty.

I'm just jumping on the bandwagon here, but I think they all look great on you. And if you think #1-#4 isn't "doing you any favors from the side" then you are clearly not seeing what I see. I think it looks perfect! I can see why you were drawn to the colors in #5-#6, because they are lovely. The color in #7-#10 is very nice and it's a fun cut too. Looks to me like you found three great additions.

I really like these, especially #3 and the cape. I'm right with Angie on #10 being a KILLER look for you. So I would say keep the first top and the third, and if you can afford to keep the Pleione as well, they sure- go for it.

I wonder with these tops if part of the difference in seeing it on oneself (in the mirror, in a photo) vs. seeing it on someone else is that on someone else, you see the garment's MOVEMENT, the sort of "waftiness" that prevents it from overwhelming and gives it a large part of its appeal? It's really hard to reproduce that yourself when you are standing still to look at yourself or take a pic, so that might influence your feelings about the piece. In real life, I am certain that these look smashing.

I like all of these on you, Sarah, including the first. And the cape is WOW. It looks fantastic on you, I prefer the length as you have it than where it sits on the model. Especially with the blue denim. The size range seems limitted - the L is a US 6-8 according to the product info?

@Heather - I will definitely mess around with belting these over pencil skirts, etc.!

@cjh - yes, I think I'll try rolling those sleeves a big to see if that makes a difference. It's something I noticed, too.

@Lynne - since this top is from juniors, I thought it would run small, but it's HUGE! I started out with a M, since that's supposed to be 2-4, and it was gigantic on me, so I went with the S, and I'm definitely not a 00-0! So, I don't think that the sizing is as limited as it appears. I think I may have to shop juniors at Nordstrom's more often : )

I LOVE the cape on you! Both tops fit nicely. I like top 1 a lot, but top 2 strikes me as a bit earthier than what I'm seeing from you these days.

Oh, Aida, LOL - I am an earthy girl at heart - I don't own a stitch of make-up or a single pair of pumps and have spent months of my life in remote places living in weathered carhartts...that's probably the reason I'm drawn to that shirt!

Sarah I've noticed that you are earthy-at-heart, but so many of the items and outfits I see you wear have a definite urban edge. This is why I pointed it out, not saying it is a bad thing or that it doesn't work for you In fact, I really like those soft mossy colors on you. Just wanted to let you know what I saw so you can asses how it would work with your style ^^
