I haven't gotten to the end of my "WIW on vacation" story yet, but to skip ahead, I needed room in my one suitcase when we left Vietnam so I decided to leave some of my warm-weather clothing behind. Our tour manager heard me mention it and said that he would be happy to take my cast-offs to a village he was about to visit in the mountains in North Vietnam, where the people are quite poor and would appreciate my long pants and long-sleeved cotton tees. I ended up giving him a big bag of stuff.

Imagine my surprise and delight and the lump that developed in my throat when I received an email from him today, including the following:

"Poverty do exist in many places of this mountainous province. I happened to meet these two girls who were cutting grass for their family cattle. They were trembling in the cold weather of winter with not much clothes on (I had 5 layers of clothes comparing to their 2). I stopped my motorbike, gave them some clothes I have already prepared (something I do on every motorbike trip). One of them was in her 6th grade, the other was in her 4th.

"Ms. MaryK, do you recognize the blouse that one of the girls is holding in her hand? It was yours. Thank you for giving it to me so that I could pass it to people in need. I do know the girls (and others) would feel warmer afterwards, they were very happy receiving it. I have given your clothes that way."

*sniff*
