My experiment with my new tube skirt:)

This new to me silhouette is stumping me. I heard Angie's voice in my head saying try and take pictures:)
So here are the pictures.
Do any of these work?

I like 1 and 5 the best. I think your tops might be slightly long for a skirt.

The second to last (#5?) is a winner to me.

I sympathize and relate. I got the grey and black stripe VC tube skirt at NAS and I'm not sure whether I'll keep it. It's so comfortable but I struggle to style it. I probably need to do what you've done here before I return it.

I think the top in #5 is the way to handle this skirt. The color, length, and style makes the whole outfit look fresh and modern--and totally work appropriate. The top in #6 is similar in length and style so it works, but I've got a bit of a poisoned eye for stripes with stripes so I'm not quite as fond of it but I'm sure others would disagree.

I find the tops in #1, #2, and #4 a bit short for de-bombshelling the skirt.

I'll come back to comment in detail later. For now, I think this skirt could do with some tapering - as a fellow pretty pear I once saw the magic happening with just two hems.

I think you could just try to hand-sew to see how it looks. No need for tailor.

Turn the skirt inside out and lay it flat. Draw the line starting about 1 inch (2.5cm) from the hem and go upwards, maybe even 10 inches (25cm) - or just below where your hips are at the widest point it is important to have a smooth transition between your hem and the original hem on the skirt to avoid puckering on the hips.

I think it would help enhance the fit of the bottom of skirt. It is very pretty and interesting and definitely worth investing effort in making it work.

I like #5 and I also think #2 has potential. Just beware of those loops! (See my post here). I admire your stripe mixing attempt but not sure it works well...I like it with solids better. I do like the colours in the skirt.

This has got great potential, Ramya! I really like #1 and #5, plus #4 which is interesting, too. Ornella is onto someting - tapering would enhance the silhouette. Don't give up, with a few tweaks this could become a fun staple in your wardrobe.

I like 5 best also. It is interesting to me how the colors of those stripes present more styling challenges than the black/white, navy/white, and grey/black ones would. Perhaps because those read as neutrals, and this shade of pink declares itself, needing more attention in pairings.

I like the look for you. Wonder if white would work?

Go for amore defined waist top. like a banded hem or something. that will work better I think. or try a tuck with a belt. white top belted in?

I think 5 and 6 work the best, since they are neutral colors (aside from the contrasting stripe in 6) that let the print of the skirt stand alone. You can also try plain black, gray, plain white... Also, the very structured tops don't seem to mesh well with it. A slouchier fabric like the last two, or like a dressy sweatshirt, pullover sweater, etc. will probably make it look more cohesive.

I like the last two as-is, bc the top is closer fitting but still a little loose.

I would also say, try tucking (like maybe w the orange colored top) and adding a jacket like a denim or moto jacket over the top. Or, you could even keep this longer, looser top untucked and put a cropped jacket over it to add structure. Alone, untucked, I think it's too loose and long. The other tops are too short and fitted and look odd w this type of skirt, IMO.

I pulled up a couple of my own outfits with a tube skirt b/c I have several and wore them a lot this winter. Mostly bc I gained weight and they were one of the few items that still fit me! Hope this helps.

Ramya - I love the colours on the skirt but I'm not loving the colours of any of those tops with that skirt. I think maybe a white would work, or trying to find something with a colour that picks up the pink or the grey in the skirt. My best of the lot is #5.

I agree with Thistle yes this skirt is difficult. I wish I could get the white and black here.
Looks like the taupe is as close to unanimous we would get on this.
Hill the stripe is close to the color of the top in 5.
Sona 1 and 2 are banded:)
Nicole I saw the loops after posting and taught about your post.

I just showed my in house fashion advisor aka DH the snaps and his favourite surprising was 5 and 6
And he loved it.I am surprised because
1) He hates pencil skirt on me
2) He hates me in taupe
3) He hates pattern mixing

So his choice is in line with what jeneva and rae suggested. They are my favourite of lot too.
Though I still wish for black andwhite in this...

I think the colors in the skirt are not the easiest to find tops to pair with.
#5 is the winner by a mile of the looks you've shown here, IMO.
I don't think the pattern mixing is working with the bold stripes and tricky colors.

Personally, I prefer a loose, non body-con top with tube skirts to de-bombshell the look. A fluid, banded white top could look great, or even a white blouse if the proportions are right. Or of course you can pick up the pink or taupe. A peplum top could look pretty, too!

I think tapering is the way to go too. You have a lovely waist! Have you tried semi-tucking? #5 is my favorite, but I also like #1 and #4. I think this skirt has potential - keep posting

I think #6 is the best, followed by #5. #6 is standout fashion.

I think these tops work the best because they're "t-shirt"/jersey material like the tube skirt. Like Rae, I think the structured, more tailored tops contradict the ease of the skirt's style. These shirts also end right below the widest part of your hips, so the tops flow into and mix visually with the skirt.

A blousy, drapey top would also work IMO.

The other thing I think would go are tank tops. You might use your button down shirts, worn open, as toppers.

I like the last two and adding a slouchy top and/or a topper would give additional choices, for you.

I love the idea of a chambray shirt and Jenava's photos really give some outstanding visual suggestions, too.

I love the colors of the skirt. I think you're struggling with proportion. you need the right amount of length and the right amount of volume. I think #5 is the closest but it needs more volume. I hope the other ladies were able to help!

I really feel you need a slouchy white t shirt for this one. As a good starting piece while you check out other options. With a cut that just grazes your hips so the length doesn't cut you in half...reread Angies Blog about th knitted midi, I think there is good guidance there about the proportions, and examples of a slouchy t shirt.
