Life has somewhat been in the way lately, so I've been doing minimal
reading, and even more minimal posting. The August challenge posts have reminded me that I did want to join in... on here rather than just in
my head.

It hit me sometime in mid to late July that despite having a huge closet, which I am largely happy with, I struggle when packing to go away for summer weekends, and when it's hot, I reach for the same old things. Which I'm going to call SOT's for short ;). So my challenge for August was to figure this out, and do something about it. What is it that I like about these SOT's? Do I have nicer versions that have not made it into "I'm too hot to think I'll just grab a SOT?" Is this a wardrobe hole (and for goodness sake Elizabeth, if it is, please be realistic about how many you need!!!) (I seem to have developed a habit that if I have a hole, I fill it and then turn it into a large hill, but that's another post)

This is a perfect time to do this, because I am working half days this week, was on bereavement leave last week (my FIL passed away a couple of weeks ago), and am on vacation next week. So lots of opportunities to be totally casual, comfortable, and with any luck, will also be dealing with some summer heat.

I had also set a goal to not purchase anything else, but this was blown
out of the water by FINALLY getting a no exclusions code from BR, so
ordered the white leather moto vest that Sveta has.

Not rocket science, but a few of days of humid heat had me at this:
1. I need breezy drape in my tops. I also enjoy wearing sport tops with a
built in bra when it's hot,and as long as the body isn't too fitted.
2. Natural fibers please, esp for tank tops and tees
3. I love skorts. Stretchy skorts. My favourite thing to wear when it's hot
is my running skirt. They are stretchy, easy, and somehow feel more
"covered" than shorts of the same length. So I've purchased two more
running skirts.... I do run in them too!
3. Shorts need to be stretchy. Why do I have so many pairs of woven
shorts? Seriously, I rarely wear woven ones around the house. I'll wear
them for summer errands... but that doesn't take 8 pairs. But I do
like having a choice of colour, so there you go.

My next challenge was to dress just a tad better for cottage life than I
normally do. "Oh, that would be good for the cottage" is a silly reason
to wear and keep things that are faded, ill fitting, wrong colour, etc. Well, okay, maybe one or two things that can classify as the "campfire capsule" but that's it. Seriously, I seem to pack for days spent rolling around in red mud, or fishing, or walking through thorns. I do not do those things!. The biggest risk of a stain is red wine for goodness sake. I want clothes that I can play frisbee in, play soccer in, walk on the beach in, yet THIS year, I'm also gonna look and feel good at the same time. So rather than grabbing my SOT's plus a bunch of other old icky things that I save for the cottage, I'm going to plan ahead, and take some of my newer tanks, skorts, etc. I'm also going to get rid of (most of) any remaining (some have already gone) "other old things that I save for the cottage". I'll also take one or two pairs of woven shorts, for trips to town if nothing else.

Not sure when I'll have time to do the purging part of this, but I really really want to!

180 degrees from Carter's ball gowns, this is my "hot and sticky capsule" August challenge.
