Looking for bag that can be carried as backpack

I'd like to find a nice handbag/satchel that can be turned into a backpack if necessary. So far I know of two examples:

This is the one that I got and loved, but had the problem with flaking coating.

What do you think of this one? It seems a bit blah, although the pleated silver is kind of cool.

Is there a name for this type of bag? Have you seen any others that are like this?

I've had 2 over the years - one I still have and use all the time on trips. I don't know if they're just called convertible or what. I like 'em, too!
I like the second silver one.

I don't think the silver one is blah, the woven look and color make it look unique.

I really like the second one. When I was abroad this fall, I saw a lot of these, but not in the US. Maybe the European members will have some suggestions.

This is not helpful because it's sold out, but I have the Hayden Harnett origami bag and it can be carried as a backpack. Check out the video on this page:

If you like the bag, you might be able to find it on eBay or Bonanzle. It's one of my favorite handbags, ever.

Hmm, seems like there are some positive reactions to the Elliott Lucca bag (the silver one). I've added a photo to the post in the hope of getting some more reactions to it.

I just saw the Elliott Lucca bag IN PERSON tonight when I was at Nordies! In fact, I almost bought it. I really loved it. It is much prettier in person - the pleating is very unique and the color is kind of pewter - something that could be worn with any metallic! I would highly recommend it - in fact, I'm thinking about going back tomorrow and getting it!

Marley, that's so cool! I'm glad that it looks good in person. Do you think the metallic would work well for an everyday bag, or would black be better?

OMG ! Thank you for pointing this out !!! I am going to buy the black, I was about to place the order on Zappos and it is over $200 there !....I really need a backpack of sorts for when I am wheeling my mom around in her wheel chair. Between her bag and my bag and her cane, it is a comical scene !!!! Not to mention if we need to bring along a foldable walker. ( a crossbody just doesn't work at that point !

Medusa, with what you wear and since you don't have a black bag, I think, I would go with the black textured bag. But it really depends on how dark the graphite is. Order both and then return one.

Depending on the colors that you usually wear, I would think the metallic would work well for everyday. Because it has that Elliot Luca "stamp" closure in kind of a brown color it is not so super dressy looking that you couldn't wear it for everyday. I usually wear blacks, grays, navys or dark blues, dark purples, etc. (basically "cool" colors and this would be a perfect neutral bag for my wardrobe!)

My Origami bag is my go-to fall/winter bag! So I use it a lot Very handy to have the backpack feature. And it holds a lot of stuff and has great pockets. The leather is buttery soft; I'm bummed I wasn't able to get the eucalpytus one (also, heh) because a friend of mine has it and the leather is the softest I've ever felt -- like a lamb's ear is how she describes it.

I like the EL bag too -- I would go for the metallic. It would go with a lot of stuff!
