I noticed that little creatures sneak into some of your pics from time to time. So, I thought I'd start a thread where we could show off our pets.

Who's game??? I'll start...

I have a 6 year-old Polish dwarf rabbit named Dusty. He is also known as "Bun-Bun" and "Smoochie-Poo." He is gray and white, with loads of personality. He was a 5th wedding anniversary gift from my husband. He is potty-trained and we do let him run around the house, in our backyard, and take him out for walks (usually at night, when there is less traffic). Since we are all strict vegetarians, Dusty is the perfect pet for us. He loves my salads.

I love my little guy. He has been there for me through so much, and even now that I have 2 small kids, he continually forgives me for my lack of attention and patiently waits his turn. *Sigh*

What a great topic; I'd love to hear about everyone's pets Dusty is very cute! Do you take him out for walks on a leash? Or does he just hop along at your side?

As for me, unfortunately I'm living alone right now, because the last of my two little furry friends (tiny hamsters named Rock & Roll) died last week

I love animals and dogs in particular, and would really like to get one. But because of my studies and allergies it's a tad complicated at the moment (fortunately there are hypoallergenic breeds). However, enriching my life with a puppy will be one of the first things I hope to do after graduating.

No picture but I love animals as well so this is fun!

We have a 18 month old Blue Oriental Shorthair cat (he's really gray) named Loki. Bundle of energy and chaos but can be very sweet sometimes.

Just lost my 16 year old blue point siamese Grendal at beginning of May and it was very sad. My husband is already thinking we need a new kitten to keep the other boy from getting spoiled (and for my husband to play with).

Dusty is adorable! I wish I could share my food with my pet.

I almost named my kitty Dusty but my parents didn't like it, so she is now Toulouse, though most of the time she is Lucie. She is very lazy and sleeps a lot, always runs and hides from strangers, and is generally a bit timid and scared. She is pretty calm around me and my family since she is used to us, but she does not like it when people approach her too quickly or loudly. She needs a gentle touch. She can be a love bug though. She is the only cat I know who likes having her belly rubbed, which is great, because her belly fur is the softest She is also very talkative at times and likes to roll around on the floor and rub herself on everything, including people.

She is very silly and sweet and I couldn't love her more.

Chris, I'm sad you don't have photos! One of my cat's names is Grendel too!

lwc I love your bunny! I secretly want a lion head rabbit, but I think I'm too rough and noisy to have a rabbit. They're so cute though!

Maya, your kitty is so adorable!!

I have two cats right now, Bruiser and Grendel. They are the babies of my mother's cat, so I watched as they were born and have known them since they were the tiniest things (they look like mice the first week!).

Bruiser was the second born, and he is the biggest. He was kind of a bully with his littermates, but now he's a huge scaredy cat. He's very talkative and loves when you rub your face in his belly! You can always tell when it's him on the bed because he's so heavy and graceless.

Grendel is the little black kitty, and she's still so tiny! She was the runt of the litter, but she's absolutely fearless. I can sic her on bugs! I like to hold her up to spiderwebs and she'll eat the spider right out of it. She's extremely graceful and lithe, and sometimes we call her Soupy Kitty because if she doesn't want you to hold her she won't tense or fight, she'll just go completely limp and try to slip her way out of your grasp. She has asthma, so I have to give her pills everyday. It's ironic because she's so active! She reminds me of the French cartoon character Madeleine.

She's hard to take pictures of because she's constantly moving, and if the flash is on she looks terrible because her fur is so glossy.

They're both so sweet. Bruiser is an attention whore but Grendel will be content just to sit next to you (and an hour later you'll realize she actually snuck her way on your lap without you noticing). They never bite or scratch people; they're really just like dogs.

Elika, I am so sorry to hear about Rock and Roll. My oldest pup is 16 1/5 and each additional day she is with us, it is a gift.

Toulouse is so cute. Maya, the first picture is darling!

Oneirix, your cats are also adorable. Love the picture of them cuddling. Grendel is tiny.

I have 3 pups and they are my kids. I have posted bits about them before. My oldest (Ka Puni) is 16 1/2 yrs old. She is a Springer Spaniel Border Collie mix. Next is Kekoa, who is a 13 1/2yrs old border collie. And Iniki, who was pictured in the Pluey’s blog is my 6 year old border collie. The 2 oldest girls are “retired,” but Iniki competes in disc dog and canine agility. Here are my girls pictured together. KaPuni is on the left and mostly black, Kekoa is on the right, and Iniki is laying below and is mostly white.

Too Fun!! Here are our babies. 2 little yorkie's - Gracey and Missy. Gracey is the big one (5 pounds), Missy is the small one (2 1/2 pounds). LOVE them to pieces!!

We had a guinnea pig (Squeeky) prior that might as well have been a puppy. She kept me stocked on fresh lettuce all the time as well. When we lost her my friend hooked us up with the puppies shortly after.

They are such good babies!!

This is a great topic! I love seeing all of the cute pictures, especially the bunny. It is also really interesting to see what people name their pets.

My husband and I have two "baby girls", our kitties. They are both around 2 years old. We adopted them separately, but chose two that are the same colors so they look like "sisters" : )

We call her our "mini", because she is full grown at only 5 pounds. She is incredibly sweet with humans (mostly me) but has a bad attitude with other animals. She comes when her name is called, and plays fetch with earplugs.

Phoenix is easy to get along with for humans and animals alike, but she has a wild streak and plays rough. She likes to sit on the shower windowsill (INSIDE the shower) when someone is showering.

Right now my husband and I are living in Japan for a year. Our girls are living with my (incredibly nice and patient!) brother and his wife, who already had two cats, so for one year they have four! We miss them SO MUCH, but our year is almost over and we'll be back with them in ten weeks!

KILLER thread, Lesley! I LOVE Dusky. He is perfect in every way. How sweet that he was a gift from hubby and that the kids love him too. A very endearing and unique part of the family.

I love, love, love hearing about everyone’s else’s pets too. They are all SO CUTE I can barely stand it. What I love even more is how much YOU love them. (My condolences, Elika). It’s very special to be besotted with a pet, and to have a pet who is besotted with you. Priceless. And all the names crack me up.

We have twin 9 year old Yorkies called Jasmine and Rosie (they are all over this site). They were a 30th birthday present to me from Greg right after my Mum passed away. Greg is allergic to dogs and Yorkies are hypoallergenic so big score. They are the little lights of our lives and spoilt to the core. I will need serious therapy if either of them pass away before I do.

I used to think I was a dog person until this kittie showed up at our doorstep. Now I'm probably a crazy cat lady. His name is Kici, which is Polish for "little cat," and he's no longer little. He's very much a diva, although he also seems to appreciate human company (on his terms, of course). He brings a lot of joy and serenity to our lives. I can't bear to watch him when he gets sick.

Maya, Lucie and our cat have very similar cat trees, http://i348.photobucket.com/al.....r/feet.jpg He LOVES the top shelf - his most favorite sleeping area. The middle barrel is strictly for playing. When he was young, he used to do the most hilarious things in that barrel; now he's too lazy and blasé for that.

Elika, I'm sorry to hear about Rock and Roll.

It's interesting how Grendel seems to be a common cat name. I know another Grendel as well.

Bruiser and Grendel are cuties. Oneirix, that's funny about Grendel and bugs, my cat loves craneflies and small spiders and moths. And he trained his pet humans to help him hunt for them.

Lena, that tree somehow brings out the beast in my kitty. She goes crazy on it. The top level is mostly for loafing and sleeping, but she definitely also gets very playful in the barrel. I love playing with her cat teaser while she is on the tree. She goes utterly berserk. That is what resulted in that silly picture of her, hehe. I have to be careful though. Sometimes she goes so crazy in pursuit of her toy that she will fall out!

TylerAnne, I have heard of one other cat who was attracted to showers. I'm giggling picturing Phoenix on the windowsill. Our cat sometimes puts his front paws on the edge of the tub and peeks in with great interest. Otherwise he greatly dislikes water (to put it mildly), and complains bitterly about rain droplets on his fur (he is indoor-outdoor, mostly indoor). Sometimes he wakes me up to complain about it.

Maya, that's so true about bringing out the beast and going crazy and falling out. It's happened several times to my cat: sometimes he was able to catch himself, sometimes his bum fell out. He amazes me how cats can dart out almost sideways or upside down and turn around in mid air (it's not very far at all to the floor). I wish I had videotaped him.

I am so glad to see so many who have such love for their babies!

I have had my Neeko for 13 years. My mom had bought us so many pets she refused to buy another, so she told me that if I wanted another dog that I would have to buy him and take care of him.

I bought Neeko in 1996 when he was six weeks old and he was jet black, he is now grey. Neeko is a Toy Poodle. We call him "neeko neek" and "neeko james". James is his middle name...lol. I love him so much! He is the best dog I have ever had and we have had dogs all my life. Here are couple of pictures of my Neeko:

I have two cats, and I have a soft spot for dogs... having had many over the years.

Whenever we lose a pet I say *Never Again* I can't take the pain....but then I fall in love with some adorable little creature all over again...:)

I am loving this thread even without being able to see the pics. I love hearing about animals and their personality quirks! Profound condolences to everyone who's lost pets.

My boyfriend and I have two special animals in our lives, my guide dog McClure and our cat Freddie. McClure is 10 and will soon be leaving me for alife of retired ease in the country with my parents. He's been an incredible friend and helper for eight years and has fully earned the right to spend his twilight years running around a rural property, sniffing everything in sight and getting spoiled, but my god I'm going to miss him! McClure is a golden retriever and the most loyal animal I've ever seen. He mopes if I'm out of sight for more than 2 minutes and even waits for me outside the bathroom when I have a shower. I'm at work as I write this, and he's currently got his head inches from my chair (in prime position for an encounter with the chair wheels, but he doesn't seem to care). His loyalty is all the more impressive when you consider I've stuck him with such ridiculous nicknames as Woofer and Hounderpounce.

Freddie is a five-year-old tabby that we got from a rescue program. It satisfied my boyfriend's long-held wish to get a cat of our own and gave me a lift after working on a story about the deplorable animal cruelty laws in my country. We named him after Freddie Mercury and have received daily proof of what an apt choice that was; this cat is pure diva with a soft side that's been developing more with each year we have him. He even has an impressive vocal range! He's definitely the boss animal and will think nothing of taking over McClure's favourite lounging spots.

Our boys pretend not to like each other very much, but they occasionally slip up. Here's a pic of one such time:

Thanks for the condolences everyone. That is so thoughtful of you. Thankfully both my little friends had long and happy lives so I'm not allowed to be very sad (though I miss their cuddles....)

And I too LOVE all the pictures and great stories (and names!). So adorable. They really are 'love stories' and very heartwarming.

Aaargh, now I really can't wait to get a new puppy.... Just like taylor says; you just fall in love and its a done deal

Oooh its so good to see pics and read about everyones pets. In a couple of months, once my next nasty rotation at work is over and I get to be home a bit more, I am hoping we can get a little dog for our backyard.

Can you believe I've never had a cat or a dog before? The only pets I have had are chickens, goats and guinea pigs.

My precious angora goat andy was killed by a police dog that escaped when I was about 13. I was devastated and it took me A LONG time to get over it. My dream one day is to live somewhere with an amazing backyard so I can have another goat, a pig and some chickens!

Talking about pets on a fashion forum? Can life get any better than this?
It's no secret that I love animals. My husband and I have fallen into rescuing homeless animals by "accident" over the past few years. The ones that we can't place in a loving, caring home find a home with us.
I grew up loving animals and when we got married my husband agreed to let me adopt a kitten to keep me company when he went out of town on business.
I named her Abigayle within minutes of bringing her home.
When Abi was about six months we decided she needed a friend...someone to play with. So we went to the shelter and fell in love with Kimberly.
Just a few short weeks after bringing Kimmy home, George showed up in need of some love and care. As with all homeless, abandoned animals we run into, we took him to the clinic and nursed him back to health. He was placed in a home last fall. Before he was placed, he brought a friend. Her name is Molly and she was very pregnant! She had four babies, two of which found homes and two of which live with me. Jasper and Lily. Shortly before they were born, another kitty showed up and he was able to be placed with George in their new home.
And just a few weeks ago we rescued an abandoned little Yorkie - I thought of you Angie! We found a home for it the same day.

I am a huge animal lover, so I love this thread.

I volunteer with an animal rescue group in the DC area, and I find it so rewarding. I have two cats of my own, Emma and Marbles. We adopted Emma from a rescue group when she was about eight years old--she's now about 11. Last year we decided to be a foster home for Marbles, because her time was up at the shelter. But we fell in love and decided to keep her as our own. Marbles is about 7.

It's great to see so many other YLFs have rescued/adopted from shelters/taken in strays. It's a wonderful thing to do for an animal that has very little chance of making it out alive. And for those of you with allergies, there are a lot of purebreds and hypoallergenic pets out there in shelters and rescue groups--so keep that in mind when you are looking to add another pet to your home. I think a lot of people don't realize they can go to a breed-specific rescue or find a specific breed on sites like petfinder.com.

P.S. Yublocka, I have spent some time with goats at a local animal sanctuary, and find that they are SO affectionate. I can understand why it would be so difficult for you to get past losing your goat in such an awful way. The goats at the sanctuary remind me a bit of cats, because they are constantly giving headbutts, looking for some petting. I totally fell in love with one of them, and now I sponsor him!

So sorry about Rock and Roll, Elika (hugs).

I've never had a dog of my own whereas my husband grew up with dogs. One fine day, just out of the blue, we decided to bring home a dog and decided ultimately to adopt one from a shelter or rescue. We found Boi on petfinder.com. He was being fostered by a rescue group nearby and for my husband it was love at first sight. We went to visit him and I fell in love too, but I was still unsure how I felt about the whole thing since I have never had pets of my own before. When he was still a few weeks old, the folks who adopted him would be lock him up in his crate for 12-14 hrs while they were at work. This caused him developed flat front paws which he has mostly grown out of. It also made him slightly neurotic - staircases make him anxious, new doors make him anxious and so on. They were kind enough to realize they couldn't take good care of him and returned him to the rescue. A few months later we came along. Well, one year later, I call him my baby and my mother is his grandma He is so loving and kind and gets along famously with humans and animals alike. He loves to nuzzle. I get asked about his name a lot - he was named Boi by the lady who had been taking care of him and we didn't want to change it and confuse him so it stuck.

OMG I am in love with all of your furbabies!! They are adorable.... and I am also glad to see so many of us have gone to the shetlers for them. I am a huge believer one should only adopt from a shelter!

I have 2 dogs myself.
First is, Tessie Maryjane who is a 4 year old, 80 pound, Anatolian Shepherd. We found her on Petfinder.com. She is fairly skiddish and unsure of new people, but warms up quickly. She has gotten lazy in her old age, but she is my baby! She has alot of food allergies (beef, dairy, corn, wheat), so it took us a long time to find the right food for her, and have a strict no-feeding-the-dogs-food rule in the house, because people food could literally kill her. She LOVES to snuggle... on her own terms, and is in general a very loving, goofy girl.

Then we have Kallie! She is a 1 year old shelter rescue. Best we can tell she has Shiba Inu, Show, and maybe shephard in her. She looks like a little fox. She is extremely outgoing, energetic, happy little girl at 45 lbs. She LOVES to snuggle, hates to be alone, and is very good at irritating her big sister.

Kendra, Kallie looks so much like Boi! Boi is a German shepherd mix (pitbull we think). They are so very similar in their traits too. Boi is also extremely outgoing, energetic, happy (at 60 lbs now), loves to play and nuzzle all the time and hates to be alone. Last year when we had to go out of town for two weeks for my sister's wedding, we left him at our vet tech's place. When we came back he had lost 15 lbs! Very little of the food we left for him was gone. Apparently, he just didn't eat. He does better with smaller periods of time, but that was a little scary!
