I saw this and was horrified. Most of them aren't just unflattering because of their length but because they are just ill-fitting, ugly colors, and sloppy.

I have to admit when I was in France I found some of the man-capris kind of endearing. But not those bike shorts that the first guy is wearing.

I wonder if these people knew their picture was being published. I'd be mortified and furious! (Guess I better be careful next time I'm on Michigan Ave!)

*ahem* I find those lycra bike shorts quite useful... they're gear so I don't think you can really throw them in with the other atrocities. I own bike shorts around the same length as my grey leggings as they're warm enough for spring and autumn without overheating in full-length lycra or freezing in shorts... but going shopping in them- that's a fashion crime!

I disagreed with the commentary, which said ankle-length would be more flattering. I think ankle length is *just* as bad!

MariannaCecile - check out Glamour.com's do's and don'ts... just like in the mag, but people snap pics and post it up for a vote... I am always paranoid anytime a stranger is near me snapping pics, and go run check it to make sure I'm not a don't!!!

Wow, I don't know whether to laugh or be horrified. Thanks for the link Angie!

Confirms the No Capri rule. They do look cute on the last little girl but over 10 - no. My neice is growing at a quite rapid rate so capris have been helpful to the budget (but she's 8 and not to be worried by looking like her legs are shorter).

OMG!!!!

Now do you see what we deal with in Chicago??

This is not what I saw in Chicago - but I guess I was in the stylish part!

Dawn, the bike shorts are fine as leggings or for biking. Absolutely. They're tapered and skinny so they work a little better at that unflattering length. But only just!

Shiny, can’t people sue?

I was thinking about the legal aspect of this. I have no idea, but a gem I remember from one of my media law classes last semester is that if a photo is taken in a PUBLIC place (like Michigan Ave), there is nothing you can do. Public places are free game. If the photo is taken in a PRIVATE place (like your home) then there can be legal repercussions.

Sadly these pictures could have been taken in 10 minutes or less this summer at any mall in the Midwest. Shiny, I also wondered about the ankle-length commentary.

I just returned from a farm show in Wisconsin. It was full of ill-fitting clothing and very little ppl! Sadly, I was one of the best dressed people there wearing my required logo'd apparel because my clothes actually fit. I go to lots of farm shows, and this was the worst yet as far as fashion.

In the light of today’s blog post, THESE NEED AN EXPIRATION DATE.

Angie, you would think! I don't know how they handle the legal complications (other than applying the black bar)

Here in Boston I've been noticing less and less capris, and more and more clamdiggers. I guess people here got the memo. :-)

In Seattle, everyone is on a leggings kick. It looks SO MUCH BETTER than those awful, awful capris. I think I've seen two people all season here. So fab.

Some of you mention your region and what's popular ... I also wonder about short-shorts on those of us 30-somethings and older. Is this more popular in warmer regions? In my area of the NW, most women over 30 wear walking shorts or clams instead of short-shorts.

But there are still many capris too.
