Last minute packing help - please help me to make up my mind!

All this weird un-seasonal weather drives me crazy when I would need to live out of my suitcase for 10 days!
My current dilemma is which trench to take with me.
I have a choice of two:
pic 1 - light mid-thigh length orchid trench
pic 2 - purple London Fog trench

Right now Paris shows a mix of temps from 9 to 19C for my visit. Which is the right trench?
Orchid one is lighter material and more spring-y color - perfect for warm weather with slight chill or rain.
Purple one is a heavier fabric and has a removable insulation liner - perfect for colder windy damp days when you get that bone chill factor.
Both are waterproof and both don't have hoods.
Which should take???

How comfy are you with cold generally? I'd be packing the purple for security unless I was bringing lots of layering tops and sweaters.

I'm in France right now and all I'm wearing is a denim jacket over a t shirt and pants. So I vote for the lighter trench - I'm sure you won't need anything heavier than that given our weather

I voted for the longer trench because I like the option of the zip out liner.

I vote orchid, because it seems like it would be easier to carry around if you end up not wanting to wear it. You can always layer up under it, right?

What, you never heard you have to suffer to be beautiful? The orchid one is
amazing. Just pack a warm sweater or thin silky thermalwear.

Here's my .02:

I'd vote lighter if you have enough other warmth (i.e. sweater, jacket, LS top) you can layer underneath if needed.

Otherwise, if you left the liner at home on the longer one, I might prefer it a little. I think it's fabric is warmer even without the liner, right?

Only go for the longer with the liner IF you really fear being cold in the evenings.

I vote orchid, so long as you have a sweater you could layer undernath.

I would take the coat with the removable liner. You may not need a coat during the day at all, but you may want something warmer, with lining, at night. My trench has a removable lining and it has been perfect for 9 days in Italy. Enjoy! And try not to stress about packing.

Both! You'll need to layer them on the plane! Just kidding (not really).
I would listen to our *eye on the ground* in France, Kirti for this one. How fab, Paris in the springtime! You will fit in perfectly with all of the fashionable French women---wait, what am I saying? You will turn them all green with envy with your inimitable style!

Take the warmer trench coat. Things cool down at night in Paris and you are out and about all the time.

The lighter, shorter jacket. You may be overheated in museums, etc. and carrying it will be easier. Have a fantastic trip!

I'm torn here. I LOVE the look and color of the orchid, but I do think the purple would be more practical. Can you layer things under the orchid? Like a sweater or blazer. If you can, I would definitely go for the orchid.

No wonder I could not make up my mind!
Even the practical side in me is undecided:
- You need a trench with a removable liner because you don't want to get cold - it is still March for goodness sake!
- Yes, but the lighter trench is so easy to carry if it is too warm...

I am leaning towards the longer trench because if it is not too cold I can wear my leather blazer of denim jacket...

I vote for the longer trench because the length works better with both pants and dresses.

You can always wear the trench open. Also, based on my experience, I think that when you are on vacation you are better off erring on the side of being too warm. The last thing you want to do is to catch a cold, especially when is unseasonably warm. I still find that the wind is much more colder and there is very little humidity, so I'm still cold even if the temperature is higher.

What kind of bottoms are you bringing?

So...for what it is worth (probably not much) I obsessed over finding a trench to wear to New York. Meanwhile, many people advised me to wear my woolen winter coat.

Um...can you imagine how I would have fared in my WOOLEN WINTER COAT this past week in New York??

I bought the trench. I even brought the trench. I have not worn the trench once. It may rain tomorrow, at which point I may put it on, but more than likely I'll make do with my umbrella.

So I am no help whatsoever to you. The practical side of me is saying the long coat is best, but the travel experienced one is saying: who the heck knows!
