K/R summer party dress and sandals

A month ago I tried this on. And have been thinking about it ever since. I snapped when there was a deal and ordered it. I would like some collective wisdom.

I have a party and a wedding where I would love something new. The wedding is remote and I need wedges or block heels. The party is at my house and I could be much more casual if i wanted.

There are some things I love about the dress- neckline, sophistication, comfort.

But unsure whether from back and side view it is flattering. And does it have longevity? On occasion wear these aspects are more important to me than with daywear. And what to wear over? I have a sequin black cardigan that would be okay maybe not great?

And the sandals? They are comfortable.

It's an absolutely killer stunning dress and sandal combination, Sally. I LOVE that dress. Try blue toenails for the party, and find a much shorter bolero type topper.

Angie's reaction is mine, Sally. I love the dress on you--just smashing! I agree a very short jacket or shrug would work better over it, if you need the warmth.
To me, this style is a good example of JFE. Not conventionally flattering (since it hides your waist), but a knock-out look nonetheless!
I like the sandals with it, too.

Thanks Firecracker, yes I hope it is JFE, floaty garments are more flattering in reality than in pics.

Here are my current other options. Some styled better than others.

1) Too dressy for both occasions, more suited to a dinner party, cocktail party etc

2) Could wear for the party here, very va va voom!!

3) Very pretty - could wear to wedding with different shoes as these ones have too skinny a heel...

4) Skirt from holding zone, has a matching top which is too tight in the shoulders now. This top is to give the general idea but would not be worn as it is actually a colour clash in reality (cool vs warm).

LOVE the new dress! I like it much better than the options listed later. If one of the other options HAD to be chosen over the new dress for some reason, I'd choose the black dress. #3 and #4 seem more casual. I think I would like #5 and 6 if the top truly matched, as it is a very flattering colour on you. Regardless, I still like the new one best!

I love the new dress. Pic #2 isn't great, but I'm pretty sure you won't be standing around the wedding/party like that;-). The front view of this dress is so stunning!

Of the other options, I like the first and second dresses, but I still think the new one is best for both events.

Thanks Echo - I love the black dress but don't feel it is right for a day wedding in a remote location, it is too evening for me.

Thanks Carter, yes floaty dresses can be dodgy from side view especially for those with a bust. I love dresses 2 and 3 but I don't think they are right for the wedding, and the Bailey 66 dress is not great for BBQ as it is fitting.

Dress 4 has a gold sheen to it, the picture is very average, it is pretty. I wore it as a casual bridesmaid dress for my sister's wedding. It would be good in the bush setting where the wedding will be held, but I would prefer a new one, this is seven years old.

The new dress is stunning and you are stunning in it! I think this dress is avant garde enough that you don't have to worry about it dating quickly.
I would also choose the first and second of the other dresses as your backup.

Yes to the new dress. Of your own dresses, I really like #1,2&3. And yes, 3 (or image 4) would be nice for a remote wedding. But I do think the new dress will take care of both occasions.

All you need is a cropped bolero on top!

You look gorgeous in the new dress! I love it with the sandals and agree that a different jacket is the only change you need (no jacket is best). Regarding the other dresses, the thing that jumped out to me is that the less strong colors don't suit you as well - don't know how that works with color theory because you seem low contrast but look great in black..

I really like the new dress. It may not have longevity, but it has impact. Of the others, I like the first two. You have some great options.

The new dress is gorgeous and it seems as if it was meant to be. When you think and think about something and still want it weeks later -- and it goes on sale -- well. All I can say is, go for it.

I agree it's best without this topper.

Like Shevia, I think you look great in the black dress, too. You wear black very well. I also like the soft neutrals on you but probably with a different shoe. And the outfit has a very different effect. Best though is the blue and white (but you knew I would say that...).

Thanks Gingko, Jaileen and Manny - I will look for an inexpensive bolero. This cardigan is not my favourite anymore - it is that "in between" length but having a bit of a sparkle makes it useful.

Shevia - I agree no jacket is best, but our climate is so unpredictable. I think I am a Clear Spring who suits black, especially when quite bare. But my colouring is quite low-mid contrast so who knows. I enjoy bold colours in the most part and don't like anything too delicate. I think this is partly my personality and partly my height.

Thanks Suz, The dress has black in it as well which makes it easy for footwear and clutches etc.. The black dress I have worn with black pumps and the green sandals in the last pics on the two occasions it has been worn. The Bailey 44 dress I have worn with nude heeled sandals - I love this dress but there are really limited occasions to wear it. So far the races, a company party and a Mad Men Party.

This dress is so gorgeous on you! Winner. I think it could also be dressed down later with a shortish fitted denim jacket?

The dress is stunning on you and much better than your other options. It looks modern, stylish, unique, architectural, just fab. Ok, the side view is not perfect but these dresses always look better with movement. And I think this shows off your strong shoulders really well. I would ditch the cardigan for a more cropped cardigan if you have it. Or you might also be able just take a pashmina or fringed shawl to throw around your shoulders. Just my preference but I would try switching out the big earrings for a statement cuff or even a series of bangles. It would draw more attention to your shoulders and arms.
Shoes are great.
On the other options: you do look seriously fab in the first 2 dresses but I think they are less unique/interesting than the new dress. I am not sure about the colour of the third one on you. The colour of the last one is great but I think the fit is a bit off.

The new dress is my favorite, and I think it's flattering from all views. The other options are beautiful, but the new dress seems perfect for both occasions. A short topper would be better.

I think the new dress looks very nice on you. The angled stripes provide the flattery as do the vertical pleats.

I would caution you to go by how you feel though. I have occasionally had doubts about a piece and then kept it based on the YLF feedback and never quite felt right in it. So we may think it looks fab but if you don't, it won't work.

I don't have the right cardigan/bolero/throw but could find one in black navy or cream easily enough, I could do with one for other summer dresses. I have a black crop jacket which may work but I think a knit would be better.

Brooklyn, thanks for the styling tips. I agree bracelets could be fun, I have a few that I will experiment with.

Cheryle - wise words. I am pretty sure I will keep the sandals as they will work with lots of summer looks and have a good heel for me. I will try the dress in front of DH and check his opinion. He loves the black and Bailey 44 style fitted sheaths, but I want something as a complement to those dresses. I think I will keep the dress but I agree it has to be right for me. It is affordable but with these dresses I count on two wears a season so like them to last for several years.

My black one has had two wears (purchased Feb), Bailey 44 has had three wears, grecian dress (five wears), and the skirt probably eight (over 11 years). I would wear shape wear with the skirt to smooth out my tummy area.

I do have three other special occasion dresses, two which are a great fit and one which is too tight in the shoulders and back now (gym!). One is 15 years old, one is 10 years old and one is 5 years old. I adore one of them but it won't be worn for the wedding - it is silky, blue and very cocktail party!! So I do keep these dresses a long time....at least this one is unlikely to get too tight;)
