Thanks, all! I think I will keep them. Am excited about trying out trousers! It's interesting about the creasing - I guess all my pants and jeans do this to some extent although usually it's just right around the crotch, not all the way up. Somehow I feel like it's OK with tight pants (like the micro checks) but should be less pronounced with looser ones? Still, I think it doesn't show when I'm moving around, which is most of the time, so I think I'm OK with it.
Mani, I will try a belt but honestly I'm not sure I want the waist to go any higher! I am short waisted enough as is and belts around my natural waist tend to squish my rib cage when I sit, which is really uncomfortable.
Janet, I have that issue too sometimes. With jeans, I look for things with medium or even low rise in front but a high rise in back to accomodate my butt. They don't seem to make trousers that way, I guess.
Angie, that is an interesting point about the spandex. These are 95% wool, 5% spandex but the fabric doesn't feel very stretchy. I actually don't know why they bother to use fabric with spandex for these, because they are fully lined and the lining does not stretch. Are higher price point trousers likely to be spandex-free or am I just doomed to have spandex no matter what? (By the way, I tried editors and I HATED them in all sizes because of the super stretchy fabric. Well, that and the fact that the waist was gapingly massive while the butt was still tight.)
BTW, a size up was ridiculously large in the waist, like I could see down into my crotch large. Although I know I could have them tailored to be honest right now I am not even sure how often I will wear trousers so I don't want to pay the additional expense until I know I like them.
