K/R: Express white denim jacket; AE jacket; M.Kors dress

I received two white denim jackets today. The idea was to find a cropped jacket to wear with summer dresses. Both are Angie's recommendations but the American Eagle jacket (pic #1) was only available in medium so I ordered it even though Angie was advising everyone to size down. The AE jacket needs to go back; I am not even sure I need to try on a small if they have it in store.

The jacket in #2, 3, 4 is Express jacket in small; I think the fit is pretty good.

I also got the Michael Kors blue faux wrap dress that was modeled by Natalie (Goldenpig). This is a medium and a small is supposed to arrive soon.

What are your thoughts?

The size looks good on the jacket. This isnt' the ruch sleeved one is it? The dress looks fab!

Love the blue dress on you! A definite keep.

I also vote to keep the Express jacket, it looks fabulous. I have both Express jacket in white and AE one in blue, same size. I find they both fit quite similarly and the main difference is in the sleeves, the AE ones are narrower and not that easy to roll.

The AE medium is definitely too big on you and the sleeves are too long. I would try a small. (I have a size S in that jacket). The Express jacket looks like it fits well, but how long are the sleeves? They look like they might be too short unrolled. The turquoise dress looks awesome on you! High five dress twin! The M doesn't look too big on you. What size are you normally? Mine is a size S and I'm typically a size 6.

Hi Meredith, no, this is a regular denim jacket, no ruching on the sleeves.

GP, the sleeve of the Express jacket are kind of short when unrolled, maybe "bracelet length". I doubt I would wear it with sleeves unrolled, though. I am usually size 6-8, often a small in many dresses, so I was not sure which size would fit better.

Tanya, thanks for the info on the jackets! I might try the small AE jacket in store if they have it.

I love the blue MK dress on you and the fit looks perfect! I also like the length.

I'm just not sure about judging white denim jackets. I think the AE one looks fine in #1 except for the sleeves (looking too long). But you are certain it should go back, so what do I know? I like the way the Express jacket looks in pic 4 with your new blue dress.

I like the MK dress in this size on you. Gorgeous color. Fit of the white jacket is hard to judge - you know how it feels moving around.

I much prefer the cropped white jacket and it fits you very well. The dress is lovely on you and I think the fit is perfect. I find that jersey dresses that are a smaller fit can often result a less smooth look so erring on the skimming end of the fit spectrum is more flattering.

I hope you keep the dress. It is lovely on you.

I think the Express jacket in small is perfect on you Makrame! Like you, I don't intend on wearing mine with the sleeves unrolled so the shorter sleeve wouldn't be an issue. Shoulder fit is perfect in this jacket - I vote keep.

And you look AMAZING in that MK dress - KEEP!!!

Hi Isis, I think I am going to return the color block dress. I really liked it and kept holding on to it but I think I tried it on so many times, it's almost as if I have already worn it and "got it out of my system".

I think the blue dress has a few advantages over the colorblock - easier to put on, will be good for travel because it won't wrinkle, and I feel more comfortable wearing it without a topper if needed because the top is well-covered. Now, of course, I have to decide whether to wear it to work.

Denise, I am with you in not exactly knowing how to judge the fit of the denim jackets - I am mostly going by what others on the forum have said before about which length is best for wearing with dresses and skirts. I do have two denim jackets (not white) that fit similarly to the AE one and end slightly below my waist so I though having a really cropped on would be good.

I am a bit worried about the small being a tad too tight just because of some wrinkling around the bust that I saw in the photos - but I don't see it in the mirror.

Jjsloane, I can move around without the jacket feeling tight so I think the size is not too small.

Dianthus, thanks for the tip about jersey dresses, I think it's a good idea not to size down too much.

Sounds like you've given the colorblock the old college try, and it just isn't you.

Definitely wear the blue dress to work! Why wouldn't you? Too dressy?

Love the Express jacket and the blue dress! So fab and fresh. I am surprised at the difference in length--it didn't look that different on sarah (although her AE was the small.) I like the shorter length--it looks great over the dress!

The blue dress is beautiful and figure flattering. I also really like the colorblock dress but I think I understand how you feel about it. I tried it on at TJMaxx and the combination of the thick ponte and the stripes made me feel less that thrilled with it--although it looked good. If you haven't worn it yet, I would return it too. The other dress looks easier to wear and more spring/summery to me. Just my 2 cents.
