K/R: engineering an alternate personality?

OK, I'm a sucker for railroad stripes, so when I walked into GAP to return some things today, I ended up walking out with these. Should I keep because they'll be cute lightweight summer pants? Or return, because I look like I'm trying to reincarnate myself as a GAP ad at age 48, plus my pants are rolled to that dreadful length that Angie has such trouble with? I could also keep and turn into shorts...

These work, although one more roll would make me even happier! Because they are tapered at the ankle, low contrast against your skin, AND your shoes are low contrast too - you pull them off.

I also love those kind of stripes! I say keep and try to adjust the length until you find the sweet spot.

Oh, I saw those online, too, and was curious about them. I have a weakness for railroad stripes, too. Well, you know what I'm going to say.

And listen. If you have to dress up and craft an alternate fashion persona for that, you deserve a little fling with an engineer.

Sarah, I like these on you and I think the petite size is the way to go. Should be interesting to compare. I have a few pairs of the broken-in khakis, and I prefer the petite sizing in these. (I'm under 5'2".)

In my case, I'm typically a 4R in GAP, but prefer a 6P in these particular pants for a more slouchy look. Good luck!

Found it. I love these pants on you. This is exactly the kind of jaunty, tomboyish look that I am going for with my chinos. You pull them off SO well. I'm curious how the petites work for you. I ordered a boatload of petites and they were all too short. I had a massive Gap return--made my shoulder sore, schlepping them all back to the store! Love how you styled these.

Kristin, I really appreciate your advice. I've ordered some petites in 4 and 6 to try. They may well be better proportioned (lower rise, narrower, shorter hem) for me and therefore be less likely to frumpify.

Kelly, LOL - I've been buying and returning so many clothes to the GAP, Nordies, and Zappos that the credit card company actually called me to check on "unusual account activity". I think I've kept about 3 things out of 20 ordered so far... : (

I actually ordered mint green to try, as well, wondering if that might be more "fashion forward", given that pastels are so hot this spring/summer.

Lol! Unusual account activity? Don't they know we have to get ready for S/S? Silly people. I really love these for you, especially if engineer stripes are a love of yours. They are perfectly tomboy and sporty which seems like a great fit for your style. Now, too bad you can't wear them to a wedding....;)
