(My apologies in advance for making you peer at photos of black things where I know it's hard to see details! It's so hard to photograph black.)

The suit I ordered from BR has arrived. This is the one-button lightweight wool jacket from last season that was on sale, and the Martin straight leg pants that Sveta just got too.

1-4: different angles of the suit, jacket unbuttoned. I am wearing my patent oxfords which have about a 1" heel. The other shoes I'd likely wear with this are my dressy booties, which are about 1.75". I think the pants length will be OK for both. the pants pucker slightly at the crotch, but Angie told me once that it would happen no matter what with stretch fabric. It's not very noticeable IRL, and in fact you might only be able to see it in photo 2, which is obviously extremely lightened to show detail.
5-6: same but with the jacket buttoned. What do we think of the stance? I feel like it's a bit low... but I'm not sure I'd ever need to button it, not even for an interview or something, so I'm not terribly worried.
7: pants alone.
8-9: blazer with my BF jeans outfit from today. I like it much better than the blue blazer I was wearing earlier.
10: blazer with my grey wideleg martins from last year. I don't like this combo, in fact now that I've tried the straight martins I kind of want to replace the widelegs altogether.
11: blazer with my knit pencil skirt. I don't have a businessy pencil at the moment, if I decide to keep this as a suit I will probably get the matching skirt too.
12: stock photo that shows the details better.

Some other points:
--I know the sleeves are slightly too long. I actually like them this length, however, in the interest of this being potentially used at job interviews, I will probably have them shortened (less than an inch) at some point. Don't want interviewers thinking my suit is sloppy. The sleeves on petite are too short.
--This season's version of this jacket is a two-button version that is shorter. The up side is that the stance is also higher. So that is an option if you think this jacket is too long or low.
--I am fairly certain that the sizing is correct for both pieces. The pants are the same size as the grey ones and fit the same at the top. I have tried the jacket one size down in the store and it was too tight.

--I like BR suiting because it is wool, not poly, and fully lined, hard to find at this price point. I might consider nice poly, but I absolutely won't buy unlined suit pants, so that is something to keep in mind if you think I should keep looking. Also, they always have this fabric every year, so I could add or replace pieces in the future.

So, keep or return? I am open to keeping either piece, or both. I wouldn't wear it as a suit very often, just for things like interviews. Therefore, I want it to be fairly conservative but not overly corporate. Relatedly, for those of you in my field (academia, life sciences, research oriented), would this be appropriate (with a dressier top of course!) for an assistant professor interview?

ETA: I took a few more photos in natural light and upped the exposure to show more detail. Hope these help. In the new photos (13-16) I am wearing my fluevogs which have a higher heel than the oxfords in the first batch of photos.
