K/R ASOS Oversized Dress

Hi Ladies,

Forgive all the posts from me:) We are on a long weekend, so a little extra time to play

The ASOS dress I ordered arrived on Friday. Would appreciate your thoughts.

It is essentially a square with sleeves. The same cut as my oversized sweater (# 5 in grey) I wore all winter. It is a Medium. My main concern is that I don't look like Goodyear Blimp:) I could size down but I think while it would find in the body of the dress, the neck, shoulders and arms are perfect for me in this size.

This dress would be to freshen up my Autumn / Winter wardrobe. I have photographed it with bare legs which would be doable in in Spring & Autumn but I really invisage the dress being worn with leggings and boots or booties.

I know black is hard to see but I appreciate you taking a look and letting me know if it's a keeper.

Deborah - it's a bit like the EF merino dress in feel. I'm having plenty of fun with mine with leggings, booties, jackets. Easy to dress up and down!

Ok think I just found it on Nordtrom's website. Lovely dress and yes quite similar. Gryffin, my dress is quite oversized and I am struggling with what to put over it apart from coats; What style of jacket have you been layering over your dress.?

Wow! That is really a square cut! I would never have guessed if you didn't do the arms to the side pose. Love the drapey style on you. It's so deliberate that I don't think you have to worry about looking remotely Goodyear. You look anything but!

I like it from the front and I like the sleeves. Do you find it a bit too long in the back Deb? I must admit I prefer it with bare legs. It seems a little heavy with the leggings. I do love this style for you though.

It does look rather like EF to me, too, Deborah. I think the only place is looks "oversized" is in the back photo. Even though, the softness of the fabric makes it read as fabric, rather than "you."

Interesting:) Shannon I prefer it with the leggings and not so much with bare legs. I wonder if what I am really looking for is a draped tunic as opposed to a dress??? Hmmm

Cool dress! I like it best with the bare legs and those fab, fab summer booties! Keep. You do not look like a blimp!!!
I think what I like best about the bare-legged look is the contrast. I do like the leggings and booties with it, too. Would you wear it over skinnies, too? (I'm thinking your gray camo or cobalt ones--if I recall correctly.)
I don't know about a jacket over it, but what about a vest? And layer a close-fitting tee or turtleneck underneath for warmth in winter?
Could you--or would you even want to--belt it, just for a different look? (I'm reminded a little bit of the dress I posted as a "pup tent dress," which I do wear belted, and which you said you would wear without one--ha ha!)

My reaction is similar to Shannon's - I like it best with bare legs, but a different texture leggings or blue skinnies, etc. would also look good.

Interesting:) I am really looking for a cool weather dress:)

I love the idea of a vest over it Firecracker and did try that when I was playing. My neck is too short for a turtleneck, but a scarf could be an option. I wouldn't belt as there is just too much fabric for it to be flattering. And I no longer own my cobalt skinny jeans... all coloured jeans have departed from my closet:)

I would wear with my plain leggings (as seen in pics), my new Zara leggings with are a ponte, suede, faux leather combo (texture) and I have a couple of other pairs of leggings that are textured (all are black).

To be honest, apart from grey I am not really keen to put coloured bottoms with this. BUT I am interested in all suggestions because I have learnt never to say never!! Thanks.

The back view is my only concern. It seems cape-ish from that view.

It looks FAB from the front. Just don't walk backwards!

Funny AJ. I love sharing comments because it really helps to define what we see and how we see things. The "cape" look at the back is one of the things I particularly like:)

I'm with you on the back view. It looks like a perfect rectangle and I love that.

I actually prefer it with leggings but it works with a bare leg too. I vote keep.

I might suggest some bold jewelry as a way to add interest. Would a cropped top layered on top of it work?

I like the bare legs look more than the black leggings. I think it's because I prefer contrast - it helps to show off how slim your legs are, which in turn makes it clear that it's deliberately oversized.

I would like grey leggings too, and maybe some kind of more textured grey tights? I think contrast reads as structure to my eye.

I am another who loves it from the front and with bare legs. It seems to overwhelm you from the back. Are you moving fabric from the front to the back, if that makes sense? With the leggings, it is a lot of black.

I love it from the front, and find both bare and covered legs flattering. They are very different styles, but I think wearing it with a legging or tights would be useful in the fall/winter months. It sure is fashion forward, a statement on its own. The only thing that bothers me a little is how is falls from your shoulders in the back. It's not the length: it's the width at the shoulder line.

But you can get around this by gathering a bit of material in the back into a brooch-clip: they sell clips especially for that. It is called "cinch dress clips" example:https://www.etsy.com/ca/listin.....dress-clip

Hi Deborah - sorry we are in opposite time zones!! I crashed after I wrote my reply. Yes, big thumbs up from me. I think it's like the EF dress because you can't appreciate the elegance without seeing it in motion. Am I right on this? This is the tunic dress that I have below (in black of course but I also got it in charcoal) I like this best over leggings too. Matte and leather. Toppers I've found can go in one of two ways. You need something with sllightly lower and wider armholes and not super tailored and long for a blazer (IMHO). I have a double breasted really light black/gray plaid topper that I weare as a blazer which is pretty much a long as the tunic. I think you either need to go long with the style or cropped. There's just too much volume to break this in the middle for me. The last pic is from the website but you'll see what I mean. I have a light moto jacket - waxed cotton that I toss over and it looks great too. Anything sligtly oversized but cropped or long. I think you could wear this as a dress but I would prefer it with tights and booties. You need something to match the volume of the dress like your peeptoe sandals in picture 1 ro all of your booties. You also have so really cool long vests - what would happen if you wore them as sleeveless blazers? I think that might work but I don't have the pieces to try it. Pendants and scarves are always good with this look. I just bought this AT topper, last pic, because I can't find long blazers. Hoping this will work. It's a wee bit heavier than I would like but since I run cold I can wear it blazer/jacket cross the length is longer and that makes it less and more versatile in different ways. But this is the way I've been taking my dress. Hope that helps!!

I really like it Deborah- it doesn't look oversized until the pic with your arms outstretched. I agree that shoulder and arm fit is so important too.
Are they your new Zara leggings?

Gryffin, thanks for your response and thanks for the visuals. Your dress/tunic reminds me a little more of this one I have pictured below. I have ordered it and am awaiting it's arrival. You now have me thinking I may need it in grey as well lol. Love your styling ideas and I will try them. My dress is definitely more oversized and I may consider having it altered slightly and have it tapered a little so it's not so full at the bottom.

Lyn, these are just my regular knit leggings. I tried the Zara ones on at home and I love them. I am just wondering when (if) it's every going to be cool enough to wear them:(

Deborah - I like the second one too. My tunic has more volume and the high low hem, EF even XS is very oversized on me, not as much as yours but closer to your first. But I think the second, that's a great one. Probably would like very nice belted. Very versatile!! Can there be enough tunics and tunic dresses in the universe? I think not!!
