K/R: Are these Columnist pants too tight?

I was looking forward to some bright bottoms for spring, so when these red Express Columnist pants went on clearance, I decided to give them a try as I had a gift card. They were out of stock in the store so I ordered them online. I wear 0 in Express Editor's so that is what I got these in as well. I have tried on a pair on the store (different fabric though) and they fit fine. However I am unsure if these pants are too tight. If they were jeans I'd say they are OK but since they are pants I am not sure. On the other hand they are supposed to fit much closer than Editor's that I am used to. Either way, they are sold out of size 2 now, so I can not really try it for comparison, and I am pretty certain I would swim in 4. So, are these OK and should be kept or too tight so they should be returned? Many thanks!

Yeah I'd say they were too snug. They're pulling around the front in picture #1.

I have these in red too!!! I LOVE THEM!!! (The Editors do not work on me).

I wear mine a lot looser though, Tanya. I tend to think that they look more modern and on trend that way. I belt them at the waist and leave them low and a *little* slouchy.

Your fit is how trousers fitted in the '90s. If you were my client, we would size up for sure. But then they don't look bad. Its just a different vibe.

I have suspected so myself, but wanted to make sure. Back they go. Since I will return them in the store, I will try on 2 and 4 in different colors for sure. I suspect I will learn that 2 would be the best, which is of course the only size than is sold out right now. If by some miracle 4 seems to work, I will reorder them.

Good luck finding some 2's. It's frustrating when the different colors fit differently too. Ugh.

They do seem a bit snug - but they do make you look like a tall, thin, column, so they are well named Good luck finding your pair in size 2! I found Editors fit me in 2 different sizes depending, so maybe try a few sizes on.

yes, I think they're a smidge tighter looking than is ideal, though the fit seems OK. I hope you find the size 2, they look great on you otherwise!

Do they stretch out? To me it depends on where you want to wear them.

Although it is interesting that the new way is to wear trousers more loosely.

I wonder if that means the skinny jean is finally walking off into the sunset.

I've never bought Columnist but the Editors stretch out like crazy, about a full size I think.
If these don't, I vote for a size up too!

Gorgeous color! I too would prefer them in a size up.

Angie, your comment about the 90s fit of trousers made me laugh a little, because I just got rid of several pairs of trousers that were around 10+ years old (so, early 00's) that totally fit exactly this way. You're right, even though they still fit, they just looked too tight to my eye now.
