K/R - strange or cute sandals?

I am on Team Flats and like having a couple of pairs of flat or low wedge sandals that I can just slip on and go out the door in (in lieu of flip flops). I have been sort of fixated on having some orange/coral sandals, and tried the Angie-recommended Steve Madden Karrolls, but they cut into my ankles in strange ways. What do you think about these? Is my foot too far back in them (the leather is soft and may stretch over time, so this may be a temporary issue)? Are the proportions strange without a strap behind the ankle?

Keep? Or keep looking? Thanks for your frank advice. I am only keeping 10's these days.

Hmm. The colour is gorgeous! And so pretty on your feet.

For me, the fit would be the issue. It does look as if they are a bit far back, but as you say, that may adjust. I would see if others have tried a similar sandal and have ideas.

The leather may stretch in just the right places. Have them stretched perhaps?

Mmm... depends on the price you got them at. They are cute, and they look comfy. The color is nice, different and summery. And they ARE slip-ons. They will probably stretch where they ought to as well. FOR ME, they wouldn't be tens. But then again, that's not my kind of shoe at all (starting by the fact that my feet can't do slip-ons, nor extremely flat shoes lol). They are not strange or weird. Keep them if you like them and they make your feet happy!

Thanks, all. It does feel as though they would stretch in exactly the right places. I can look into having them stretched.

Hmm. I love the color and style, but your foot does look like it's too far back from the toe area. If they can be fixed (stretched), I'd keep them. If not, I'd keep looking.

I like them. Are they comfortable? Like everyone else said, I think they need to be stretched a bit because it looks like your foot my be hanging off the back. Can you go up a half size? If you can stretch them, then keep them. Borns are some of the most comfortable shoes out there.

They are like flip flops with the straps in the wrong place.

Honestly it's just too much toe for me.

Aside from the fit issues, I love them. Love the color and the knot details! I don't think they're weird at all.

It's funny...I'm with Rita on Team Too Much Toe, but I think this is just *my* recent style direction (I prefer sandals with very little toe showing on myself, or a peep-toe, weirdly), so I can't comment objectively on your sandals :)! Do you like them and are they comfy?

Jonesy and Rita, that is very interesting - all I see is too much "ankle/back half of the foot" - that is really the issue that's got me hesitating about these sandals. I don't have toe issues at all, but it looks a bit imbalanced to me to have no strap going around the back of the foot.

It's interesting to me that you have toe issues, and I know Angie also has issues with her toes (thinking that they are too long). Maybe this is TMI, but I've had toenail fungus for the past 20 years or so, and finally am taking an oral med that has (mostly) cleared it up, so for the first time in my life, I feel OK baring my (painted) toes in public. And summer for me is so casual and I spent so many years in flip flops that I don't have toe issues.

I like them and understand the need for a slip-on and run-out type of shoe. I am really hesitating on the fit, though. I have really high insteps and frequently must pass on styles because they cannot accommodate the arch at the top of my foot. That's why I like strapped shoes and shoes with laces.

I find many shoes that are made for a narrow, shallow instep foot with long toes, and I have a wide foot with high insteps and short toes. For example (I haven't posted the pictures) but I recently purchased some DV sandals in a 6.5 and some Nine Wests in a 6.5. The DVs are a perfect fit in width and length and the Nine Wests just don't work. This is the third pair of this brand for me this season that I'm sending back.

Sorry for making this about me, not you and being so long winded. I'd keep looking for better fit. (And BTW I usually size up to a 7 in Borns).

Denise, that's super useful information - I'm leaning towards returning and holding out for something perfect. I just wish I knew what that was! I ordered and returned these, inspired by yours, but I could barely walk in them - my feet were just not held in place by that ankle straps.

Sarah, I haven't commented because I recently committed a "toe pas" with peep toe shoes that did not show my toes, so I am learning even more from your thread. I love this color, but am not a huge fan of this style.

Sarah I like the color but I am just not crazy about the sandal. I guess they are just not what I would choose for you given what I know of your style. They are a little ordinary to me.

Very interesting responses. First of all I love the color and think if they are very comfortable you should keep - I am assuming the toe will move forward as they stretch. Second, how much toe is too much? Lately I have been drawn to less toe exposure but I do have quite a collection of toe exposing sandals, which I still wear. Not sure what the answer is.

I like them and would buy them myself, but I think they are too big (too long). If they stretch out, there will be too much room at the back. So for fit, I'd pass.

Clearyclaire here, chiming in from Sandal Land. I have been looking at toes and sandals for months now and these look like a fine *flip-flop alternative* to me! The color is current, I'm seeing lots of shirred and gathered leather sandals and lots of knots like these have. The orange provides a low contrast with your skin, and not having a back/ankle strap doesn't look any funnier to me than any other slip-on or flip flop without one. I think the leather will give a bit and your foot will be sliding all the way in in no time.

If you decide to return these and keep looking, beware the *must be buckled every time/multiple buckles* PITN sandal that you cannot slip off and on for what ever reason. I like the ones with the elasticized buckle (which stretches for off and on) or the back zip styles. Most of us are in and out of our sandals several times a day.
