K/R - no plant pots today

I went out to a few decor stores looking for large planters and came home with these instead.

1. Black and white polka dot peplum sweater. I thought it would be nice with my slim black pants and wore it that way for the pics. It is a few inches longer in the back. I don't often wear high necks but kind of liked it and love polka dots (recurring theme).

2. Beige pants. They are fairly slim fitting and the waist it is quite high but I need pants and they are 96% cotton and 4% spandex so they should be quite comfy in hot weather. I included a rear view pic since this is important too.

3. white denim bermudas. I think these are bermudas anyway. I took the second pic to show the higher waist. I think they work - at least I hope so since I bought them in blue denim too.

4. Last is a polka dot dress (I warned you). I know it is soul sucking beige but I thought I could put a turquoise necklace with it and I love the print. and that the fullness is sewn flat to about 4" below the waist.

So what do you fabbers think? Keep or return? Styling ideas for the keepers welcome too.

I love one and three. Do you have any white pants? I think I prefer white to beige. but warm weather dressing can be a pain and light bottoms are hard to find. So I'd say if you can see it fitting your needs then keep it. I think the polka dot dress as is washes you out but with bright pops of accessories: jewelry, bag and some lipstick might be another story!

Love #1! It looks great with the black pants. I'd put that with a bright pencil skirt or a slim fitting midi (like the Vince Camuto skirt that Nancy modeled recently). Don't you have a pair of bright skinnies? That might work too if the top is long enough.

I don't like #2 - but am not a fan of the chino/khaki look. Sona's idea of a white pant instead is a good one (and white pants would be fun with #1 too!). I vote return.

#3 - great shorts and perfect for the formula Angie posted recently! Keep! (great score in denim too - where did you get these? I have white, but need a darker denim also).

#4 - I like the dress! The shape is beautiful on you and I think the color is dark enough to provide some contrast. Throw in some fun pops of color around your face and I think you'll be good to go!

That peplum is splendid and gives you the shape of a goddess, something that no planter can do!!

The polka dot dress is a very good fit: just add loads of bangles and/or a chunky necklace in coral or turquoise.

Thank you Sona and Christy. I much prefer the crispness of white too but find pants that fit to be hard to find. It is one of my biggest challenges and is worse when I am carrying some extra weight.

I put the white shirt on with the pants just because it was handy but was thinking I would wear it with one of the silk shirts most often. I am giving it another try with the new JJill silk shirt (I got it yesterday and think it is a keeper). I also have the russet, Joie turquoise and loganberry.

Does this help? Please be honest. Even though I would like to make it work, I don't want to keep a fashion loser just because pants are difficult to find.

I like it with the j jill silk shirt.
Honestly: I bought a pair of michael kors beige pants las year and have never worn them. I bought them for summer but somehow always pass on them and end up wearing tan pants or a pair of bright skinnies instead.
Do you want to hold off for a tan/light brown/dark nude pant instead?
Keep in mind that we have different skin tones too but I think tan would look fab on you.
here is what I would do: envisage them in your current wardrobe. Its 85 degrees outside. you've decided on the russet shirt. What pants/bottoms are your eye drawn towards? If the beige is one of them: keep them; else pass.

Those white denim Bermudas are FANTASTIC on you Dianthus! Definitely keep - and wear often!

I like the polka dot dress - I think the fit is beautiful on you and the colour far enough away from SSB. A few pops of colour, and it will be even better.

The polka dot peplum shirt is fab and will work with many bottoms - great find.

The beige pants are a good basic and look quite nice with the J Jill blouse (which is gorgeous BTW).

The peplum top looks great on you! I don't even like most peplums. Ditto for the white bermudas - they look fantastic. I am not sold on the beige pants. They just don't look as good as other things you wear. I think the dress is nice and with the addition of some color at your neck as you suggest could be great.

The beige pants look good with the pink shirt, and I prefer it without the belt.
I really like the white shorts- good idea to buy in two colours for sure!
The dress is flattering and a keeper too.

That peplum top looks great on you, and I love the white Bermudas. I declare the pretty dress to be a lovely mocha, not SSB, and hope you keep it!

I'm not good with cotton pants myself, so I defer to others on those :-).

Lovely purchases. Loved that polka dot tops and the dress. That beige pants look so sleek and the fit is so right on you. Loved it with pink blouse. White bermudas would be great for summer. Yippe!!! Happy for you.

Go for #1! Maybe find better versions of the beige pants and polka dot dress. Undecided on the white shorts (maybe because seeing them with the white sweater is throwing me off).

Not loving the khaki pants ( I know I have a poison eye to them since it was only option I had to wear for a few years / or black which I tended toward) as I think they easily lean towards looking dated. The back view shows that they fit well. Can you duplicate the brand and size in another color?
All the rest are great - I like the mocha dress. Sort of retro and you could jazz it up with so many different accessories.

Yes, the dress is mocha, and it's perfect on you! I love the peplum top, but my eye is trained to want it with a pencil skirt (not sure if they are being worn with pants/jeans this time around). Love the white shorts, no-brainer. Good thing you got them in a blue wash, too. The fit of the khaki pants is absolutely perfect on you, so I can see why you like them. If ever there were a pair of khakis to rock, these would be them. Like everyone else, I'm kind of *off* khakis right now, but I'm sure I'll have a pair again someday.

Christy, I bought the denim knee length pants/shorts at the Jones New York store. I checked their website but didn't find them. They are quite high waisted and designed to be slimming. I'm glad I bought both and that they got the thumbs up.

I also tried on a simple black sheath dress but didn't buy it. I am tempted to return the polka dot dress and get the black. It has a different neckline and waist detail from the navy one I wear almost weekly and fit quite well.

I am still on the fence about the beige pants. I find it not only hard to find pants that aren't too snug in the hip or too loose in the waist but also that aren't too thin for my lumpy bits. The fabric on the beige ones is light enough for summer but not so thin that it shows the nastiness going on back there.

I have 14 days to decide and put the receipt somewhere that it won't get discarded.

Thanks for the hints on the shorts - I'll keep an eye out for them. I think Macy's sells Jones NY.

I'm still not sold on the khaki pants. While I think the color combo with the pink is MUCH better, it's the drape/fabric of the pant that I'm not so fond of. I think the same color in a material with a nicer drape would be absolutely fine. BUT I understand how hard it can be to find a pair of pants that fit. How badly do you need a pant like this? Can you get away with holding out for something you really like? Also, don't forget about alterations! If pants are hard to fit, rather than settling for something that's "okay" can you look for something that has the lightweight but flattering fabric and get them altered if they need to be taken in at the waist?
