I love the un dresses I see lyn* sport with such ease, and I thought the look might be flattering.

It was at least fun to get to buy a dress based on chest measurements rather than hips as a pear!

Pic#1 - Donna Rico dress. The top is loose for sure, and the waist does not quitehit at the waist.

Pic#2-3 - Talbots. Everything fits fine, the waist is a touch off. I also tried it with the pink belt from dress #1 as all DH could say was how much he liked the belt. (It is an inexpensive fabric belt)

Pic#4 - a potential bolero to go with the flared skirt.

In addition to your normal awesome feedbac, I am also trying to be cognizant of my dominant season. Can I "winterize" these, or should I pass on them just for that.

Honest opions, please. Everything can go back, and i can totally try again.

I really like #1, Especially with those shoes. #2 is a bit too long, I think. Didn't see photo #4...

i love the lightness of #1, very springy. winterize with black tights, boots and a cardi. that said, the black one would be easier to winterize, but is not as fab to my eye.

would the top be easy to alter on #1?

I am really clueless on alterations, honestly. I need to find a tailor, but it has not been easy. and, it is hard to trust the unknown with a lovely and expensive new garment. I am now looking for someone who does wedding dresses who might be willing to do some for regular dresses.

I like the coloring in #1 but wondering about the shoulder line, as you say it is loose on top. #4 is also a favorite, the bolero balances and bookends your shoes nicely. Cute shoes by the way. You look dreamy in dresses, Thistle!

Pick 1! Pick 1! Dare I say it makes you much more slenderized than 2? It's fab! Although I agree if you need it more fitted, a tailor works wonders or pick up sewing like I did :)!

I love #1 - it's so fun and I think I'd like this dress (where does one buy Donna Rico?) I think a wider coloured belt would look nice; I can see a 1" or 1.5" red belt as a go-to!

I'm not sure about #2 - I think it's a bit heavier in terms of its colouring, and it looks like it is a bit too poof - does that make sense? I like the idea of #2 though - maybe a holier lace?

I really like 1. As in really really really. REALLY. It is a great color combo and pattern to wear throughout the winter (think of it with plum, cobalt and red sweaters, plus black tights and boots or booties) and in the spring (silver, pink, blue, green, butter yellow, any other color you can think of....). I wish I could see the fit issue that you see a little more clearly. However, in some ways that is good, right? If I can't see it, it may not be nearly as obvious to everyone else as to you.

I got the Donna Rico at Nordstrom's. my new favorite store.

UGH. I HAVE NO NORDIES. I will have to live through you. Love that dress. It is such a versatile neutral.

Thistle, I really like both dresses on you. As far as winterizing, the first may be harder because of the light background of the pattern and lower neckline, but the second will need just the right cropped jacket to work with the extra fullness of the skirt. Do you have a black knit long sleeved tee to try layering under the dresses? You might also try a short sweater over the dress so that the bottom looks like a skirt. Play with tights and boots or booties or oxfords or loafers to see how it works out.

With a Nordies card, you start with up to $100 in free alterations. Maybe you can start with asking Nordies since #1 is a Nordies dress?

I really like both, though #2 would look better to my eye if it were shortened a bit.

#1 is my favorite. I love the fit and the cap sleeve. GORGEOUS. I love the second dress with the addition of the pink belt. The fit is also great but I think the slimmer skirt on #1 give it that extra something special. I can't tell that the top is loose on #1.

Unfortunately, DonnaF, the closest Nordies to me is 90 miles away through some awful traffic (read nasty Chicago traffic).

2015 they will be in my state though!

I like them both! You might be able to have a tailor take up the bodice in #1 if it's ill-fitting (I can't quite tell). The touches of color with the belts are divine with the black and white. These are great looks for you.

Keep! Both of them! I love the way these look on you. But if there's only room for one in your closet, I vote for #1.

I think both shapes are flattering, especially if you can take up #2 a bit. I prefer the print of #1, that is gorgeous. I'm excited about all your great new dresses!

I think that although the first one is fine, the colors (in the photo) don't seem to pop. The second dress is high contrast and seems to really work for you and your coloring. Maybe the first is a little too close to your hair color?

Anyway, I loved the second one and it certainly could be winterized with tights and high black boots. Got any of that?

I like both dresses and I think the second dress looks particularly good with the belt.

As a pear I find fit and flare dresses as Cocolion describes them are perfect for our shape and mkle the most of our trim top halves - you're lucky because you have nice slim legs so they look even better on you.

Another vote for #1....the shape is beautiful, and I like the pattern better. I can't see in pictures that the top doesn't fit, but speak from experience that having an ill fitting dress top is tough. Hope you find a tailor you like soon! They are worth their weight in gold.

Oh my goodness. You were made for dresses. These are so PRETTY on you! I really like them both, but especially hope that you can find a way to keep #1. I do think it can be "winterized" -- or if not WINTERIZED (because that depends, to me, on fabrication and weight as well as how it looks) at least taken into fall and spring, which would extend the season sufficiently.

What is the fit issue with that one, specifically. A little looseness can usually be adjusted. I think an improperly placed waistband is actually a more annoying problem and more difficult to fix. Some people don't seem to mind when the waist is not at one's actual waist, but I have always found that problem makes it uncomfortable to move easily and skews proportions.

I like them both, but prefer #2 for its winterizing possibilities. Of course I was lusting after that one when I saw the catalog. Check Yelp for tailor reviews. My local drycleaner is actually quite good for basic things like hemming and zipper repairs. I use a pricier tailor at the mall for real reworks (unless it's Nordstrom purchase and then I use them of course)
