K/R - Boyfriend Jeans

After a gentle nudge from Angie, I decided to look again at boyfriend jeans. I had a lot of bad luck with them early in the season and gave up on them. After she again recommended Catherine Slim Boyfriend jean from Kut from the Kloth, I decided to try them.

Pic #1 - my normal size, and they are quite comfortable.

Pic #2 - sized up a size. They are low on my hips with only my pear shape keeping them up!

DH had opinions, but I will save those until after I hear your!

I like the sized up pair, but they look a little too long, and would need to be tapered also.

As Ceit said, these would really work with some altering. I like the fit and wash/rinse in #2.

I struggled with finding the right fit in BF jeans for quite a while. I like the size up, for myself (another pear shape) I found baggy works well but they also need to taper a bit at the bottom near the cuff. I like the larger one's here but would roll up/tailor to taper them a bit and have them sit a little higher up on the shin when rolled. I roll mine up 4 times!

I like #2, but agree they need to be shorter and more tapered. Nice look though!

I think they have potential. I like the larger size, it looks more deliberately oversized. I agree with Ceit that they're too wide at the hem. You'd need to have them tapered. I think you also need to make the roll narrower if you're going to wear them full length, which may involve shortening as well. Do you want to ever wear them at a shorter cropped length?

Which pair do you feel most comfortable in Thistle? I like the look of the larger size and think they are quite flattering. Agree with the others that the roll needs to be a bit narrower but higher up so more ankle shows. If you decide to keep you may need to hack off a couple of inches from the bottom.

I like the taper in #1. I think IK is right, jeans stretch.

I like #2 also, but agree with others that the hem is too wide and would need to be tapered.

I like the BF look on you. I'm not sure which pair is best without side and back views. Your comfort level is important -- some people like more slouch than others. I agree that if you like the second pair they might benefit from some alteration to increase the taper or perhaps some shortening.

PC problems are preventing me from loading the pics, but as a pearish hourglass I've had issues in the past with jeans that sit on my hips at the beginning of the day, but are falling off at the end. Belting only helps so much (paper bag effect, needing another size of belt for your hips vs. belts that work on your waist). Plus your body is changing right now due to the weightlifting, right? All these things considered I'd probably go with the snugger fit.

Noting the expert comments. I have just embraced the BF jeans, too, and am still getting used to the look. These look great and am anxious to see the outfits you create with these.

DH liked them both. He actually thought it was hot that I was supposed to look like I was wearing his jeans (Although, he thought they should be husband jeans instead, and boyfriend jeans should be in the juniors department)

As far as narrowing the leg . . . is that something I need a seamstress to do, or does that involve more cuffing?

Will try more cuffing when I get back tonight!

Thistle: the amount of difficult involved in tapering depends on the kind of side seams you have on your jeans. If they are "flat felled" with double layers of top stitching, that's a little more work, but a seamstress can do it pretty quickly. I would do it, but I'd consult a online tutorial or a sewing friend first. I'd also use a photo of what you'd like the taper to look like --- I'm sure you can find one on Pinterest or the forum that works.

I vote either size is a keep, but definitely taper. With this wide a hem, though, you need to get sewing involved. Too much fabric to peg.

Ok I can see the pics now and I stand by pair #1. But I agree the legs are too wide.
Have you tried the Gap sexy BFs? What's your comfort level with using a seamstress?

I wouldn't know what size would be the best, been very confused about bf jeans lately.
But it is so nice that you are trying new things.Way to go!

Thistle, you can narrow your cuff by folding side seams onto each other before rolling up. They stay in place pretty well that way. Tried to pin image for you but I'm a techno failure. You can pin rolled jean cuff if it doesn't make any sense. Go for the smaller size as mine slide down my hips after one wear.

I have two pairs of these (blue denim and white) and they are such a joy to wear. Just perfectly comfortable. Great choice.

I have not read the other comments but I love the first pair on you. You look extremely happy in these photos. I hope you keep them. I also have the Catherine's and I love them. I haven't had any problems with them bagging.
