I loved to hear about your style preferences changing, @Neel. I am a newbie myself, trying to get a better hold of what is "me" when it comes to fashion, so please take my comments with a grain of salt!
I like the pattern on your skirt and the way you styled it with the jeans jacket. IMHO, a patterned bubble skirt is the kind of garment on which a lot goes on... you see, the bubble cut calls your attention and it is not a cut most of us use or see very often. Plus the print, it is also eye-catching. So once you sport this garment, you better play WITH (not against) it, making the skirt THE focal point of your outfit.
Of course, color repetition (like you do with the pink top) works. But I still find it better to keep the top as simple and as neutral as possible. So... white tee it is! That way the skirt can really shine.
That said, if the lenght is an issue or if your style preference changes no longer allow super cute, feminine looks: pass it own. I guess @Trasconna Shanon's selection of Angie's quote is spot on: if it's too much work, pass it own. Clothes should work for you and not the other way around.
Last but not least, despite style preferences changes, I do believe that keeping a few "alternative looks" (if you dress edgy most of time, having a killer - important word here being killer - ultra-feminine look) in our wardrobe help both on those days where "nothing looks good" and to keep our mind open to venturing outside our comfortable zone.
