I'm BAD. Really bad. Since I was ordering the Anthro tops and paying for shipping anyway, I thought I'd try the orange dress I was stalking. I figured I'd hate it or it wouldn't fit or something.

Well, I don't hate it.

I need you all to tell me to hate it, so I can just go with the Target dress (whose tags have not been cut yet). And also to smack me across the face. Look at Kona, she clearly thinks I'm nuts.

I have two weddings coming up - one in a month, and one in New Orleans...

I love you in orange. I saw the target dress but can't find it and wish I could see them side by side. I can't remember if it would be good for a wedding. Could you repose that picture?

Hmmm...well, let's just get this out of the way: Kona is an adorable, big-eared scruffmuffin! Okay, I don't hate it, but I don't think I like it as much as the Target dress, believe it or not...I'm wondering if it's a size too big for you or something? I know it's not supposed to be snug-fitting, but maybe it's supposed to be a bit more fitted than it is? The Target dress really suits your bod, IMHO. This looks sort of like a lace box with sleeves :). And let the record show that I do love me some surrendering-your-waistline action, but somehow I'm not loving this particular one.

Another vote to keep the Target dress ~ they should pay you to model that dress, BTW ~ and return this one. This one is okay but not outstanding. Your Target dress pics made me want to go out and buy it for myself hoping I'd look as great as you in it.

Yes, this one looks a little big on you. I vote for the Target dress, unless you think you could size down in this one.

Jonesy, (and everyone else - by the time I posted this there were more comments!), I so appreciate your feedback. Here is the link to the dress. It is a shift and from the descriptions it is supposed to be a looser A-line. By the cut it is not supposed to be fitted, but that doesn't mean it's flattering on me. It has a slip that I think will fit weirdly if I size down.

The only problem with the Target dress is that is is a thinner clingy jersey, and I feel lumpy. You all can't (and don't want to) see, but trust me on it. I just don't want to have to wear a shaping layer under it to make it look good, because I will die of organ crush-age..

Well, then, I think you should choose the one that YOU love! That color and that fabric will be traffic-stoppers for sure!!

It's the cap sleeves - they kinda ruin the dress for me. Also, it is too much surrender for me. The other one is more fitted at the waist and gives you more definition. It is a more flattering shape for you.

Love the colour on you. But agree with others about the shape. However, if you truly adore it...I don't know how you would feel about a slight alteration? Slimming it down just a little?

Una, how about this Trina Turk dress? I had actually gotten this from Nordstrom, but I returned it because the color was too much on me. The color is deeper than it appears here. I think it would look great on you.

Hmm, perhaps I should try a size down, just in case. This is my regular size...

Alicat, those dresses are lovely. I don't usually wear cowlnecks but I could try. The first one is gorgeous but probably too straight cut for me - I need a little flare at the bottom to balance my shoulders.

I don't have to get a new dress at all, nor does it have to be orange - it just seems to be the color of the moment.

Well, I am a sucker for lace, and you look amazing in orange..my solution is if you love this... have it slightly altered to custom fit you!!
I prefer to alter rather than downsize, that doesn't always solve the problems...I vote keep if you love it and alter to perfection:)

It looks a little big/boxy to me too... also I think I can see the lining doing some weird wrinkling thing in some of the pics. I would be inclined to go for the target dress as well!

I can see some things that would draw me to the orange lace dress too: the scalloped lace hem is so cool, the easy shape is a draw, the fabrics probably feel nice, etc. I agree about checking into altering it through the middle. The shoulders and length look good now. I also see the bunching in the underslip thru the lace, so the underslip may not be better smaller. . .

I know what you mean about the Target jersey dress. I held it in my hands earlier today, but put it back without even trying in on as I *knew* that a solid color jersey would not be kind to my little lumps and bumps!

Sorry, but I fell for the shape of the Target dress on you as well as the colour, but if you feel bumpy let it go. This one is a great colour but the fit looks off to me

Yes, I hear you on the solid jersey--I don't wear it without a jacket, because I can't stand to see the bra strap bulges in the back, and in terms of the front view, heaven forbid I get cold! Patterned jersey is so much better, or solid wovens of course.

I liked the target dress better, but maybe Taylor is on the right track with the alterations idea, since shapewear was a concern with the Target dress.

I do think this dress is too big on you, but I do adore it on you. I think this dress is very appropriate for a wedding. And I do love the Target knit dress; however, I see that more of a date night or more of a casual dress in general.

For the price of this dress, though, I would be sure on it....I have seen it in stores, catalogue and online many times and drooled over it all while slapping my hand from the mouse! Redheads and orange...not so friendly...even though I totally MAKE orange be my friend even if she isn't friends back...:D

I can't wait to see what you decide. And ooooh! New Orleans for a wedding! FUN.

This dress will be hard to alter, as it is crocheted lace... I think I'm going to try a size down. For this price it needs to be a 10. I love the Target dress, but the two things that I like better about this Anthro dress are NO shapewear needed, and the neckline is a bit lower.

Has anyone besides Aida tried the Target dress, and what do you think of the cling factor?

I don't know how it would look a size down or altered but I have seen you in many beautiful things and I don't think this one does you justice.

I like this dress much more than the Target orange dress. I didn't comment in that thread, but I saw the dress in store and it didn't look well constructed, it didn't look up to your standards. It did, however, photograph extremely well! This one looks better quality and more "you." I don't see any fit issues with it either.

EDIT -- wow, I'm a total spanner here! Sorry, the Target dress looks to flimsy to me, even though I love a bargain!

I do think you should try a size down. Sizing at anthro can be all over the place--I used to think a lot of their stuff just "didn't fit me" when I actually sometimes need to try on the XS despite "not being" an XS (or a L for that matter). Now that I'm flexible about the size tag (from an ego perspective and a convenience perspective--sigh, so I have to take three sizes into the fitting room or get a SA to get me a different size--oh well), I find much more stuff that fits!

I totally trust YLFers, but I was amazed at the universal feedback on this one, especially because I like this dress. I do think it is a "typical" choice for me, in terms of a waist-surrendering shape. I love the way I look in the photo of the Target dress, but I don't see myself wearing it often as it's giving me confidence issues in terms of my body.

So I'm going to try a size down before I give up... Dashrashi, this is a Moulinette Soeurs dress - any experience?

I think it depends on the cut. I'm usually a 4 in MS, sometimes (good proportion of the time) a 6, and occasionally an 8. (Thanks, Anthro. Helpful.) Based on this blogger (whom I read from time to time and have a general sense of her sizing), I would probably size down to a 4 or maybe even a 2 in this particular dress. I doubt I would take the 6 into the fitting room, but I'd try on the 4 first. (Am I the only one that does this? Tries on the larger of two sizes first so if I have to try on both--grumble--at least it's because something was too big, rather than too small? I think my mom recommended it.)

ETA: Also, Kim was sized out (dress was called the Edelweiss shift then). Definite cue to size down, since she is only rarely completely sized out. (Reading a LOT of shopping blogs has really helped me shop online more effectively.)
