I got these red grazer jeans from UO.com, my favorite place for colored denim. For a mere $29, I thought why not experiment with the short pants trend.

I think the look is fun and edgy but not easy at all, especially for me with my height and curvy figure (strong secondary pear tendencies). I have taken these pictures from a brutal front stance and largely without my arms at my side, which is my favorite trick for hiding my saddle bags. : 0

So you can be honest!

1/2/3 -- Bookending approach. Black wedges, black t's. Do you think there is a best neckline for me? Crew/high neck, v-neck or scoop?

4/5 -- A fuller silhouette top. (Pardon the cleavage, I need a different bra for this top.) Long or short?

6/7 -- Column of color approach. Fitted top, or big boxy top?

For mine I found my strappy tan platforms seem to work best because the ankle on the shoe butts right up to the hem of the pant. Not sure if the black shoe is best . . . but I like the tops you chose!

I love the color on you, CocoLion. I don't see ANY saddlebags!

They appear to fit very snug, which is a good thing, but it looks like they are pulling a bit at the crotch. Are they comfortable?

As Mo suggested, I would love to see them with tan/nude shoes of some kind. I think that your legs are long enough that they work with the black wedges, but something lighter would make your legs look even longer!

The only top I don't like with them is the red one, all of the others look great!

I really like the shorter more voluminous tops with these jeans and LOVE the combination of the pink with the red.

I agree with the others - change out the shoes to nude or tan and with a little bit of a heel.
#1 - neckline is not flattering - looks just like a plain ol' t-shirt
#2 - neckline much better!
#3 - neckline even better - the roundness gives your face a softness and it shows off more of your beautiful collar-bones.
#4 - no - shortens your torso and your legs
#5 - much better, but those shoes are getting in the way of making your legs look LOOOOONger!
#6 - like the color combination, but not the style of the top - just too "t-shirtish" to me - and the neckline is not flattering
#7 - love the top - just not sure if the color works with the jeans - is it red also? a different shade of red than the jeans?

In some of the pics, it looks as though the jeans are pulling funny in the crotch - it may just be the shadows, I can't tell for sure! I'm assuming that you've got other pairs of these jeans from UO - so you know whether or not these work for you, right?

There are NO saddlebags to be seen anywhere in any of these pics!

I agree that a lighter shoe will work much better with this length. I'd personally like to see these with non-tees so it's clear that you're wearing this in a "fashion" way and not an "I don't know that this isn't the best length" way (if that makes sense). The tunic in 4/5 would work better with a lighter shoe, especially pulled down as in #4. I really like the pink paired with them in #6, but again would like to see a non-tee (or maybe add a white blazer to this?). I'm not sure the shade of #7 is different enough, but I do like this shape of top paired with these.

Thank you for all of the advice. I can't believe I didn't think of the nude shoes...

Here are some options with nude shoes featuring red and pink (I like that color combo too but I think I like it better with the black shoes for some reason).

1 -- with nude slides
2 -- with nude gladiators, they just have a small heel
3 -- gladiators and a less fitted blue top. Color blocking! I like this option.

As far as the crotch pulling goes...

I have two other pairs of UO jeans that are the same fabric but longer length hems. They are a size bigger but they stretch out so much! The crotch and butt get really baggy by the end of the day. And I have to wear a belt, even when they are newly washed. So I purchased these a size smaller. But maybe they are too small! I guess I was thinking they would stretch out, but obviously I can't wear them a whole day and then return them.

I hear you guys about the t-shirt not looking too fashion-y.

Thank you Marley for the opinions on the neckline! I love crew necklines but I guess they don't love me.

The one with the blue top and nude gladiators is my fave here! My UO red jeans fit pretty snugly too so I am more comfortable wearing them with longer and looser tops - but then my thighs are much bigger than yours...

I love the blue top! I am so reserved with pairing bright colors . . . I will live vicariously through you. My red jeans pull just a tad at the crotch, too. But then, most of my jeans do, due to my lower hips being my widest spot. [Shrug] we all have fit issues, right?

I like the jeans! They fit fine on your nice curves - no saddlebags! I like the black top in #3 with the scoop neck, and it also seems like the one with the best length. I like the pink/red combo, but the pink top seems shortish - how does it feel?

For the feet, it's tricky since summer is over (in my area), so can you still wear the gladiators sandals?

As to the black shoes, maybe they are just sort of heavy at the bottom of the picture. Can you make another layer over the black top? a jeans jacket or vest? a plaid tunic shirt, or a cardigan or something? That might balance out the eye with the black shoes a bit.

Anna -- I like the black shoes too.

Sveta, Angie, Jonesy, Mo and CJ -- yes I think the blue top with gladiators works as well. It's a look I can wear for the next month or so. Our summers are long here.

So the jeans aren't the perfect fit, maybe a size bigger would have been better but I think I'm keeping them.

And CJ good idea (also Aida suggested this). A jacket or vest will go a long way in spicing up this look with a plain tee.

Hi, comment from a newbie. I love the jeans on you, no idea where the alleged saddlebags might be. Love the red and blue proportions, the colours look good and that shape and length of top is perfect. I like the black boots as well, I think they give a bit of an edge, and I like the little gap between boot and hem. Keep the jeans!

Aida recently (like the past few days) I've been thinking a lot about top lengths after I saw this blog post from Imogen.

Although the topic is on tunic lengths, it got me thinking l so I was playing with different top lengths here as well as trying out these pants and asking for advice on necklines. Even though that t-shirt is short which looks dated (and it is a few years old), I like that top length on me because it hits at a narrower point on my hips.

Does that make sense? Another way of looking at this: when does a fashion trend trump what's more flattering on me personally?

I hear you on the top length; I wear mine a wee bit shorter than the "modern length" as well because it flatters me more. I do think the pink top is still a bit short, even in terms of flattery; for me, I find the length of the black tees in #1/3 in the original post more flattering on you.

Thanks Aida that was exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for! I am going to measure the tops (esp. the scoop neck black one) because the length is perfect.

Starting 3 years ago tops and tees started coming out long, like at around 28" instead of 25-26". The 28" length is tough for me because it comes to my crotch or below and shortens my legs. It is an in-between length that is not flattering on me. I like either longer tunics or a shorter length.

Denise, don't forget to try leopard print heels or booties with these trousers. It is top on my list.

These do run big, huh? I ignored UO's advice to order down and ordered my regular size. Belting will be a must for me! @ _ @

I ordered two sizes down. The first 2 UO colored cigarette pants I ordered one size down per the website's advice. But they were still too big. So I over-compensated this time. Even though they are pretty tight now I think they will stretch out and I'll just wear a long top to hide the annoying crotch pulling thing.

I def need belts for the other 2 pants.

I just got another pair from UO in my regular size. If anything they are a little small, but knowing UO jeans they will stretch. They are cords in a chocolatey purple color.

I see NO saddlebags! You've gotten a ton of great advice already - just adding that you have a spectacular figure and should not even think otherwise.
