Keep or Return and a WIW - YouLookFab Forum

Hi everyone,

So I have a couple of new purchases that I want to run by you all. Please forgive the bare legs and shoelessness (thus I cropped my feet) I always run late on days off and wanted to get these pics taken before getting dressed for the day.

#1 - top from Anthro, jacket and skirt from Modcloth. I think the jacket might be a tad small - it's tight at the neck if I close it. That said, I doubt I'd wear it closed anyway. The skirt I LOVED online, but it's got a satin sheen to it that I am not in love with. I apologize for the wrinkles - these all just arrived today. The Anthro top I quite like but wonder if it will work with skirts.

#2 - Anthro top with an old pencil skirt. The skirt needs a good iron and I'm not sure fits that well (see #4/5) but is old and the reason I am looking to buy new skirts!

#3 - The bolero again with pencil skirt and new stripped top

#4 - Tucked. I am not loving this look, mainly perhaps because of the poor fitting skirt!

#6 - Different skirt, same problem I think.

#7 - What I have on! I cuffed the cargos and am LOVING the Miz Mooz brogues.

So what do you guys think? Any keepers? I like the jacket and top a lot but the b/w skirt... Hmm. That sheen kinda irks. Yes, I need new skirts!

I like the striped top and the short jacket a lot, and the jacket does not look too small to my eye. The green top is a pretty color, and the knotting detail is interesting, but I definitely don't like it with a voluminous skirt; in general I wonder if the shape is as flattering as it could be, on you. The black-and-white skirt looks like it would be cute, but I would like to see it with a different top.

Here are my votes:
#1 Skirt -- keep
#2 Jacket -- return
#3 green top -- keep (but need to wear with pencil skirt or slim pants)
#4 Red striped top -- keep. I think it looks fine tucked, but with a jacket that closes more than the bolero so the stripes are showing a little more subtly.
#7 Your WIW -- so cute, really fun and full of personality!

Hope that helps! I think I might just not be a big bolero fan, let's see what others think.

I love the skirt on you! It's sweet and looks great for summer and spring. I also LOVE the green top on you. The fit and drape are perfect. Keep, for sure. I don't think those two items work well together--I prefer the green top with the pencil skirt. Love the new red stripey top too--very cute. I think the bolero is cute but I'm not sure about the fit. To me, it looks a bit on the short side--but I'll defer to others with a better eye for cropped jackets.

I like the skirt, but not with the green top. You need a more fitted top to balance the flare. And I like the green top, but not with the bolero. I think it would look great under a cardi or longer jacket. So there's two keeps!

To be honest, I don't love the bolero, and you know i'm a cropped jacket-head. I think both small and cropped is disproportionate - I'd like to see it a bit swingier or with a different shaped hem.

Thanks, ladies! I completely agree about the green top and pleated skirt - too much volume all over the place when worn together. I will get a photo of the new skirt with a couple of more sleek tops. The original one I bought to go with this skirt got nixed by DH and my friends so I won't even bother showing it (it's in my return pile), but I will say it is more structured and slim fitting. Thanks so much for the feedback! I'm eager to hear more comments.

Perhaps I need to look at the Halogen seamed skirt... I really need to do a closet inventory & purge!

I like the skirt and striped top. I like the green top too, but I think it would work best with jeans. With all the flowy fabric in the front, you need to balance it with the slimness that nice fitting jeans will give.
The bolero looks a bit small or too short to me as well. I'd return it.

I like all these pieces, except I prefer the green top with fitted skirts versus one with volume to counter the volume with the top.

The green top is BEAUTIFUL on you; I especially like it untucked to show the gorgeous drape.

I *love* the skirt - was eyeing it online m'self! - and I would definitely vote to keep it. However, the thing I've learned from long experience is that if *you* have some reservations about a piece, the chances are you will not wear it much - even if others tell you it looks good. And then it's a waste of money you could save and spend on something else down the road. :o)

Deb, that's sort of what I've been struggling with. Everyone likes it on, even DH. But that sateen sheen to it... I'd have walked right past it in a store. Trouble is, I love the colors, shape, fit, etc and I'm having a hard time finding something else that meets my criteria.

I love the skirt and green top but not the bolero as much. But I agree that you shouldn't talk yourself into keeping the skirt, no matter how much others like it. When I talk myself into something, it just sits in the closet.

RT: The thing is - the sum of the parts don't necessarily equal the whole. You like x, y, z ... but it doesn't add up to love of the skirt itself. I think you put your finger on it when you said you'd walk right past it in the store. That means it doesn't "speak" to you. Don't buy out of desperation - there *will* be other skirts. Anyway - my 2 cents. :o)
