Julia's dress hunt

I have been looking for a Summer dress since March and still haven't found one. I am working from home today and decided to go to BR at lunch time and try on all their dresses available in the store. I did and here are the pictures:

Some of them are in regular size so alternation would be needed. I did buy one but I'm not going to tell yet.

What's your favorite? I hope that I don't need to return the one I bought after your judges, but I'll certainly consider buying another one if there's consensus here.

Oh I forgot that the first picture is the one I wore today. It is the new Alfani top I bought from Macy's and clamdiggers I got from their Junior dept.

My favorites are:

b&w wrap
b&w shift
green and white
blue and white
and somehow I know this won't be the popular opinion, but I like the sweater dress.

I liked the green & white and the blue & white abstract (the last one) best. I liked your new shirt too!

my favorite is the black and white print with the border..the dress is cute as well as the cut and fit is great on you. this one would have my vote.

and i think the green one is the most flattering fit on you (after hemming an inch or so ) but I am not a big fan of the print.

I think my favorite was the blue an white V neck (#5 not including today's outfit). The black sweater dress (#3) was a close second.

I liked the shape of the tan dress (#8), but did not care for the color. Maybe with colorful shoes and cardi would help it out.

The two that I did not care for were the blue wrap (#4)and the greyish/blue one (#7).

First, let me say that I love the outfit you wore today, very cute.

Here's my order ( from the one I like the most to the one I like the least):
1. Black and white wrap
2. Blue and white abstract print
3. Green and white
4. Blue and white V-neck
5. Black and white shift
6. Tan ( love the shape, do not like the color)
7. Black sweater dress
8. Blue wrap
9. Greyish blue

I am very curious to learn which one you actually got !

My fav is the blue and white v-neck. But I think the hem needs to be shortened.

I have to say that all of them don't look as good as the outfit you were wearing to shop. Are you trying on regulars but you are actually petite?

Or is it BR... I am hit or miss with their dresses myself... even their petite dresses.

I dunno... I think you can do much better. You have a teeny tiny beautiful figure, as shown in the first photo. The rest of the dresses all look too big and too long. But if it's because you're trying on regs and you are a petite, that could certainly explain it!!!

I think I have decided on a favorite. Definitely the B&W shift. It drapes so nicely on you and seems to show your waist the most. The full skirt is cute too, but not TOO full like the blue wrap.

Thanks everyone for your votes! I'm glad that the one I bought is on a lot of your lists. It's the last one with blue and white abstract flower prints. The B&W shift is my second favorite.

Maya the black sweater dress is also one of my faves but it's too dark for Summer. I love the slimming effect a lot and the square neckline is flattering to my round face.

Dani/Mirah, the green one does look good in the picture, however it's too tight and the side view is very unflattering. I'd be too embarrassed to share it even if I have taken the picture.

Nicole the blue and white v-neck was the reason why I went to BR. It looked very promising on their website but somehow the prints don't look as fab on me as I thought.

Tanya, thanks for taking time to rate all of them. When I put on the B&W wrap I didn't like it at all, but the picture came out pretty good. I wonder why.

Shiny, a lot of them are regular size and I do need to shorten them if I get them. I have to shorten most of my dresses even if I get them in petite but I do think it will make a huge difference once that's done.

My hubby thinks the one I bought has too big of a flower print, and I remember that for petite, the print size should be smaller than your fist and this is definitely much bigger.

I'm quite disappointed that not many dresses are wearable this year IMO. I've been to AT, ATL, Macy's, Nordstrom, etc. Either the fabric are too thick with linings, or they are very tenty and loose, not mention a lot of them are dry clean only. How can I find one that I can wear on my trip that is hot and humid?

Angie, what's your opinion? Should I return the one I bought?

You have loads of great options for hot and sticky HK, Julia! These are my preferences:

1. black and white shift. Perfect!
2. blue and white V-neck. Very pretty.
3. Green and white, but I feel like putting a red belt on this dress. It’s a great fit though. Not wild about the colour.
4. Blue and white abstract. A very pretty shoulder and neckline.

And your shopping outfit is super-duper too!

Julia, I think the blue one is pretty on you and I would be all for it if it was the only dress you showed us. BUT it pales in comparison to the b&w shift, in my opinion. That one really works with your shape and wouldn't even need to be hemmed, and the print isn't overwhelming. So the one you got is pretty and looks good, but I really feel that the shift is PERFECT for you.

Angie, thanks a lot for your ratings! I see that the B&W shift gets the most votes and both my hubby and my daughter like it too. So I'll return the one I bought and get that one instead. Maya you're right, it doesn't even need to be hemmed!

Now I know why I didn't like the blue and white v neck, it looks a lot like a Chinese Gown to me. Not that I dislike it, I actually like it a lot and I have several fab pieces of them, but I'm looking for a day dress that is fit and flare.

Thanks everyone again, I'm so glad that I can end the dress hunt journey here. And from now on, I should always bring a camera with me when cloth shopping, so I can get great feedbacks from you gals!

Julia, this is a great idea! I've started doing this when I know I'll be trying something that I'm unsure about. It really cuts down on having to return things. By the way, I'm glad you're getting the black and white shift, that one looks great on you, and I think the length is perfect.

By the way, when I was at Nordstrom yesterday, I saw this jacket and thought of you! I'm not sure why, other than the print is kind of giraffy, maybe (it's a lot cuter in person than on the model):

Ana you are soooooo sweet! I wish you were my little sister.

I love that jacket even more than a regular giraffy print because it's colored with red and orange. I love it when a designer mimics something partially and throws in a surprise here and there! Nice find.

It's true, I love volume. Sack dresses, trapeze jackets, a-line shirts, lantern and kimono sleeves, and puff sleeves are some of my favorite things.
