Jersey Polka Dot Skirt...How do I style this?

This jersey straight skirt, from H&M, is inexpensive, but so comfortable. I'm not wearing it yet, because I don't know how to style it and now I'm not sure if I should keep it or return it. There's black micro-netting over a white skirt. Loose top? Tight shirt? Tucked? Untucked? White, black or color? Pop of color, and if so, what color? Shoes? It falls just at or below my knees and it's stretchy. I await your advice, which is always appreciated.

Love it! I'd treat as a neutral with which any color would go (including black or white, which would look very chic).

My personal preference would be for sleeker, tucked-in tops whether those are t-shirts or woven shirts/blouses.

As for shoes...you could do pumps, ballet flats, sleek boots, oxfords...

I think this is a very versatile and classic item....great pick!

How about a bright color top? I like the orange and emerald options for this spring, but any bright color would work.

Ooh, I like the idea of orange or emerald on top. It depends on how it fits you, but I think maybe the de-bombed pencil might work too with a shorter, looser top. As for shoes, I think maybe boots or booties for now, and flat oxfords for when it gets warmer?

PS - I totally want to go to H&M now and look for this skirt.

Tags have officially been cut! I am loving your ideas and hadn't even thought about the emerald green or orange. I think it will be versatile from classic to light-hearted. This will be fun, NOW!

I'd also love to have that skirt... if I could remember not to use bags with exposed zippers when wearing it. A nylon mesh top like Sweet Pea would be a good fabric to pair with this.

I also think that bright purple would be a really fun colour to pair with this; also red and yellow - really - I'd treat it as a neutral

I think tucked and untucked could work; but I would belt over top if untucked.

I would keep leggings/tights to a solid colour because of the dotty pattern - but any colour should be okay.

I think it'd look fab with a solid button front in any color! I'm sure you will whip up something elegant/classy/funky in no time. Glad you're keeping it!

That skirt is adorable. I am coming up blank on tops and shoes at the moment, but I could so see this worn with a cropped black leather jacket (or basically, any cropped or fitted jacket).

I think you could wear it with a ton of things! How about one of those bright color blazers, even. I think a fitted top and a loose top would work, depending on the top. It would also be good with white and/or black, but I thin it would be fun with all of these bright colors I'm starting to see everywhere! Same with shoes, you could do flats, heels, and booties. What a fun skirt! I can't wait to see what you come up with!

What a "very Vicki" skirt, I love the large polka dots! I agree that the sky's the limit here:-)

A few extra ideas:
- denim (or chambray) shirt tucked in + black & white Dr. Martens oxfords (or maybe the blue Aerosoles ankle boots)
- button-down or blouse with a narrow stripe or a gingham pattern, untucked, peeking out from under a sweater (V-neck or maybe a crewneck style and the shirt all buttoned up, like Angie wrote up this week)
- black button-down + cropped leggings + taupe or nude footwear + bright-coloured bag - similar to Angie's outfit here:

What a cute skirt, I just bought a polka dot skirt off ebay (let's hope it fits) so I could copy this outfit.

I love the ideas of kelly green and orange...my initial reaction was also a denim top. I also love the idea of a t shirt and an army vest or jacket.

OK....the truth is that my INITIAL reaction was really, " I have to go to HM tonight "

This is an outstanding list of suggestions and, Inge, I am over the polka dot moon on your idea of denim or chambray and Angie's link is a wonderful style option. I also like the buttoned-up shirt suggestion. It's funny you think this is "very Vicki," because I thought it was "so not me" since I don't often wear skirts, but did want a casual look with it Thanks, Anna, for the link. I'll check it out when I get home. Designer inspiration always helps. Yes, I thought of the Doc Sara oxfords, but wasn't sure. Now, that I see them being mentioned here, they'll be part of the experimentation. Isabel, that's a big "yes" and I have been cutting the corners. What a difference this made.

Anything will do: turtlenecks or button downs, tucked or untucked, heels or boots... I can't wait to see it in action (and I can't wait for tomorrow as I planned to return something to H&M and now I know what I'll be looking for too).
