Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Jackets questions and pics

Hello ladies! I'm swamped in things I need to return and I finally got around to taking pictures of several jackets I'm not sure about. All of them except the trench were supposed to be for spring/summer, btw.

I've been looking for a white/cream jacket whole summer and didn't find anything I liked. All the whites I've tried washed me out, and I didn't like the bone or cream jackets I did see. Anyway, here's one of my latest attempts - BCBG white cotton jacket (original can be seen here at Nordie's http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/29.....0&P=1) It has lovely pintuck detail, which is hard to see in the pics. I'm not fond of this shade of white. Maybe my eye is not used to it. It also comes in black, btw. What do you think?

I also have a question about the fit. Do you see how it's pulling high across the chest (when I straighten out my shoulders)? This is size S and if I go up to Medium, it's huge everywhere else. Even in Small, it's still a bit too big in the waist. I have a similar problem with most jackets I try. What's going on? If I wear them with a slightly padded bra, the problem sometimes goes away, sometimes not. For this reason, I gravitate towards deeper V jacket collars. Am I too picky?

BR linen jacket. I really like the color, but I'm not too excited about the design. It also just occurred to me that it will probably wrinkle like crazy. I wouldn't wear it with this sweater.

Anthropologie seersucker jacket. I've been on the lookout for a seersucker jacket, and this one is very comfy (it has very cute polka dot lining, too). It also feeds my addiction to color red :-) I just realized it's too short for pants and I'll have to check if it goes with my skirts.

Finally, my first attempt at a red trench. This is one is Guess by Marciano from Nordies. I'm just beginning my search to replace my old khaki trench, ideally something belted and long enough to go with skirts and dresses. I'm still kicking myself for not trying several trenches from Ann Taylor this last spring. Please ignore the missing top button, it fell off right after I unpacked it. I look at the pictures and I'm not in love with it. I do like the collar, however.

Btw, I tried that Soia and Kyo white trench that Angie and Tanya have. Wow, what an outstanding piece!!! As Angie would say, KILLER! Unfortunately, my short neck can't handle the collar. And what's worse, the sleeves are so incredibly tight, I can barely stand it, even with one thin cotton layer. I did discover something I noticed earlier: if white alone tends to wash me out, a bit of black close to my face seems to make a world of difference. This Soia and Kyo trench has black buttons and the bone/black combo just pops!

Hee, it looks like I'm answering my own questions as I look at the pictures. I'd also like to hear your feedback. Thanks very much!

Hi Lena!

First of all, this is totally off topic about your jackets...but you have beautiful lips.

Are some of these jackets intended to be bracelet sleeve length?

I liked the white one from the front, but from the side view it looks too big on you. Also, is that a show thru along the front button plackard--like a partial lining that folds over from the front of the jacket? I don't notice any pulling across the chest.

I love the color and the short sleeves on the BR one, but I think its too big. Linen has some limitations though. It really limits the amount of time you can wear it.

I like the Anthropology jacket--great color! The back belt detail is adorable. But the sleeves looks short--unless it's intended as a bracelet sleeve?

The red trench looks too big and overwhelming on you.

Hi Nicole! Thanks for the feedback and compliments :)

As far as I remember, they all have intended shorter sleeves. I'm not sure how much I like them. Yes, the white BCBG has this visible lining thing in the front. I'm not a big fan.

I know what you mean about jackets and trench being too big. I tend to order too big to make sure there's room for extra layers because I'm always freezing. It really helps to take pictures.

Hi Lena - yay, another fan of the color red and you look so pretty in it :-) I agree with Nicole on fit. The white one and the trench don't fit you right. I'm sure Angie will spell out exactly how. Also, for the red trench, seems like the collar might be too overwhelming - try single instead of double breasted jackets. Agree that linen is high maintenance and looks pretty wrinkled by the end of a day. My favorite of the jackets you've posted is the seersucker one.

Hi Sihaya!

You know, I usually gravitate towards single breasted jackets because I like to wear them opened. I'll keep on searching for the perfect trench. Afterall the season has barely started :)

Thanks!
