Everything I seem to buy is wrong and getting returned! How frustrating.

Today I fell in love with this Zara dress, but looking at the pictures I have no idea what I was thinking. It's ridiculously clingy around the tummy. Should I even bother sizing up?

I also got this Free People dress with my consignment credit. It has a lot of detail that isn't apparent in the picture, but it also has an empire waist, which I am not used to. I'm not sure if it's flattering or not, although I thought it was when I tried it on. Clearly my judgment is off lately though, so I don't trust myself...

I really like the second dress. And the color and style of the orange dress are awesome on you! I'd definitely try the next size up before giving up altogether!

Try sizing up on the first dress and the second is definitely a keeper.

The idea of the Zara dress is fab - so mod and a great color. Size up! The black dress is great - keep!

I love the idea of orange dress, but the clinginess is an issue -- you may just need to size up. The black one is great on you!

Size up on the orange dress if you want to try it again. I love the color on you but I can certainly understand not being happy with something that is too clingy.

The black empire dress is nice and I am partial to empire as it usually hits us at the smallest part (and are usually pretty comfy in the summer due to no belts or waistbands.)

The orange color is stunning on you. The consignment dress looks like it has just the right amount of sweetness with the black color giving it an edge, and that it will be cool and breezy for those hot summer days.
I know what you mean about second guessing yourself. I too often settle for what is just ok out of frustration. We all need Angie or an i-phone in the dressing room.

I really wanted to post the orange dress with my iphone, but my phone is too old and I can't do the necessary upgrade

I wish we could just clone Angie and have one of her for each of us :p

Maya I sympathise, in May I returned 2 pairs of boots, 2 pairs of sandals, 4 jackets and exchanged a pair of sandals and a pair of shoes I feel as though I need a bag over my head now when I go in Reiker or Marks & Spencer!!!
I love the orange colour on you perhaps try the size up if you're concerned about the clingyness. The black dress is lovely on you x

Love the orange dress, but it needs to be a size bigger and have control undergarments which may detract from it's summeriness (my new word). The black one is nice, and looks cool and comfy for summer. You can punch it up in many ways.

I love the black dress, the empire looks very flattering on you. The orange dress, in a larger size is a maybe. What kind of fabric is it? It seems to hang kind of funny and I'm not sure it's because of the fit.

The fabric is cotton with a very high stretch/elasterall content. If it was less stretchy it probably wouldn't cling as much.

I definitely think you should try to size up on the orange dress. It's divine. Cute black dress too.

Maya, I vote to keep trying on the orange dress in the next size up. I hope this isn't prying, but from the pictures it looks like it might be a waistband from undergarments that is contributing to the issue. (Maybe I'm inferring too much from my own experience, but I'm also making assumptions based on the fact that you, like me, are long in the rise/short in the waist.) Would different undergarments perhaps help? I'm a fan of Spanx shorts not for the suck-you-in benefit, but because they actually come up high enough in the rise that they don't create a binding line above my tummy, and instead give me a smooth(ish) line. Just a thought.

Love the colour of the first dress - I would size up on that because I think it will look fabulous on you. I like the second dress, too!

I have returned so much stuff recently - like Louise, I feel slightly embarrassed when I go in to shops now, in case I have a reputation for being that woman that buys things then brings them back again a couple of days later!

Butterfly lady I got super paranoid in M&S yeasterday as they checked my card number against the invoice which they've never done before and I was thinking OMG they think I'm doing something fradulent cause of all the stuff I keep returning!!! Then realised they where doing it with everyone so must be a new proccedure Phew!!

Louise - the same thing happened to me! I've been ordering by mail lately, so it's only the woman in the post office that sees all the parcels I return ... !

I'm having one of those months too, Maya. Have returned shoes, clamdiggers -- FOUR pairs, in two sizes -- a jacket, two shirts, one silk top, and am about to return the beautiful sleeveless top I got at the Nordstrom Half-Yearly Sale because the description did not explain that the body of it was a knit.

Nothing wrong with that in principle, but the price on this item was way too high (for me) to pay for what is essentially a glorified, dry-clean-only, tee shirt.

I"m glad to hear that others bad shopping months too I find something and think it's great only to get it home and realize that it is *gasp* matronly! I think... goodness, have I not learned anything in the 2 years I've been hanging out here?!?

#2 dress looks like a great dress for summer. Cool and comfy.
first dress might need some cinching spanx or something like that (even if sized up)

i agree with the others, #2 is cute, flattering, and has a million and one summer uses. you could even wear it with tights or leggings, tall boots, and a chunky cardi for fall, if you were so inclined. and #1 is so gorgeous, that unusual burnt orange and retro-modern cut look fabulous on your figure and with your coloring - i can see how easily you'd be distracted by all that wonderfulness to not notice the tummy! i say size it upl!!

and Maya, take heart i find that 'losing my judgement', having second thoughts about clothing i've purchased, etc. tends to occur during times when i'm expanding my 'style spectrum' - it can be a frustrating but also a very good sign that you're growing. let's face it, it's easy to tell if you look good or not in the 'same old, same old'. but it's much more difficult when you're trying something really new for you. ach! it's definitely uncomfortable! don't give up hope, tho - it seems like you've picked out a couple of great items here!! steph
