The clip above gave me a good chuckle and I kept telling my BF, who was watching the movie with me, that this is my fashion mantra

Unfortunately, I have never seen the original series. In fact, prior to the movie, I didn't even know there was one!

I vaguely remember the TV show with Robert Vaughn, but I absolutely LOVED the film. Armie Hammer was absolutely darling as Illya Kuryakin. And here is a fun bit of trivia. The actor who originated the role of Illya Kuryakin in the TV series is now the medical examiner ("Ducky") on NCIS.
