Angie, do you think quite a few of the discriptors we use for fashion and style are a bit overused, 'edgy" for example?
Getting back to "cool", I looked for a definition on line and here is what I found:
Something regarded as cool is an admired aesthetic of attitude, behavior, comportment, appearance and style, influenced by and a product of the Zeitgeist. Because of the varied and changing connotations of cool, as well its subjective nature, the word has no single meaning. It has associations of composure and self-control and often is used as an expression of admiration or approval. Although commonly regarded as slang, it is widely used among disparate social groups, and has endured in usage for generations.
I think we (generally speaking) become lazy using the same phrases and words over and over. Perhaps its time to challenge ourselves to think further and deeper and learn to express ourselves better and more fully. So maybe something is cool, but why leave it at that, add some words to the conversation to explain why we think it's cool.
Oh sorry... I can't think of a substitute of the top of my head, but I am going to work on it. xx
