After a long time pining for canine company and about a year after Shadow's passing away, my boyfriend and I are thrilled to introduce Lucy, a young basset-beagle mix, into our life.

She is darling. Very easy and mellow for a youngster in the short time we have had her; pretty well behaved (though we hope to train her to stay off furniture, and want to do obedience training regardless to train US and for the bonding experience) and quiet (she barked a couple times when we were playing and she was EXTREMELY excited, like my old dogs did; but has not barked in reaction to new people, dogs, cars, etc.)

As you can see, she has a beagle's coloring and head, and has the body/stature of a teeny basset hound. I am already lost in her eyes and adore her freckles.

And yes, we still have our rats. Keeping their cage in a separate room for now, though we let Lucy smell the cage/rat room while leashed. She thought the scent was interesting but didn't seem particularly reactive. Blinkin is a bit freaked out by the new sounds and smells, but Boo seems ok.
