In Seattle now!

I arrived in Seattle last night for a short trip and I can't believe I'm here in this iconic city of Angie! I'm staying downtown so I saw all your stores - forever 21, All Saints, Nordstrom, and all those elusive places I usually only read about here. I keep thinking I'll catch a glimpse of Angie's blond head or spectacles popping from a moving Northwestern crowd. So cool!

Welcome! Seattle is a wonderful city (I've spent most of my life here), and I hope you get a chance to come back soon for a longer stay. In addition to fabulous shopping
and people, there are some great options for heading outdoors too.

Do you have time for a jaunt out to UW (take busses 71, 72, or 73 from downtown) or Capitol Hill (walk westward from downtown, along Pike or Pine streets)? Both are fun to explore; UW is pretty and has some nice views of Lake Washington, and Capitol Hill is funky and dynamic. Some of the pictures from Angie's posts are taken on Broadway, the main thoroughfare through Capitol Hill, too!

Thank you Charmian and Angie for your welcome! Yesterday we did the underground tour, Pikes and other downtown attractions. We took our time, much worth it!

But the best is that I got a GREAT haircut! Complete change! I went from bob (jaw length) to super short with wispy lengths on the side, side fringe, spikes on top, very funky and it totally suits my face!

I was inspired by Sveta who looks so good in her new shorter haircut. The hairdresser who did it is a true professional. I found her by searching the Internet for Seattle hair. The Salon was downtown near the Nordstrom and this stylist listened to me and my woes and operated magic. In one hour. I am amazed.

It was risky to do this, in the circumstances. But to be guided by online reviews
was most helpful. I will now add mine! It is a great tool for us so far traveling too.

Anyway I will post photos.

Charmian, we didn't have time to explore the city fully - just walking together downtown having the best time. Seattle is truly a romantic city! We are heading today in the region where Twin Peaks was filmed, planning on hikes and other outdoor activities.

I wanted to share this beautiful experience! Thank you for reading.

OMG you're going on a hike! That was the one thing I wanted to suggest (more than Capitol Hill and UW), but was afraid to since you said you were on here for a short trip. Doesn't Seattle have marvelous hiking? I'm so thrilled you're heading outdoors!

And congrats on taking the plunge with the haircut. I'm looking forward to pics when you get home.

There are a TON of gorgeous hikes and outdoor activities in the greater Seattle area. Are you heading up to the Tiger Mountain area (since you said you'll be out towards North Bend)? Lots of great hikes up that way.

How fun! I hope that you enjoy your stay in our region. North Bend/Snoqualmie (the Twin Peaks area) is actually not too far from where I grew up. I haven't hiked Mt. Si (the big mountain in North Bend) but hiked Little Si a few years ago and had a blast.

If you're out in Snoqualmie and have budget for an expensive but delicious meal, you might pop by the Salish Lodge - a hotel overlooking Snoqualmie Falls. The restaurant is quite good - my boyfriend treated me to a birthday dinner there a couple years ago, and we LOVED our meal.

Tiger Mountain, which Aida mentioned, is even nearer to my hometown. (Side trivia - every summer in early July, there is a "clothing optional" Bare Buns 5k fun run sponsored by a nearby nudist colony that takes place on Tiger Mountain. No, I've never been and don't intend to go - but the local newspaper always writes something about it with carefully edited photos, and every year people write to the newspaper complaining about the tasteless coverage of the event.)

Thanks all of you for your suggestions! Yes we are heading now to the Falls. Last night we ended up eating at the Mexican restaurant nearby. Good but copious! So today it will be hiking, hiking... I' checking out the Tiger Mountain right now.

Oh no, I should have checked on this thread earlier -- Rattlesnake Ledge is AMAZING, and it's only one exit east of Snoqualmie Falls. In my opinion, it's the biggest "bang" for your hiking buck within an hour of Seattle.

Charmian, I hope your advice will reach the next Snoqualmie visitors. We had a great time but discovered the Falls trail is closed until 2013! Nevertheless, it was a fun day. I think it must be incredible to grow up here. The decor is like a fairytale. We both completely unraveled from our daily lives.

I so completely understand why Angie you decided to establish yourself in this corner of the world.
