I'm Bored with my Style - Seeking Inspiration

You all know what I wear day in and day out...pencil skirts, blouses and jackets. I like bright colors and don't see that changing any time soon. But I want to mix things up. Any suggestions?

Amy, is there any style you sort of admire, but maybe think you "can't" pull off? If so, then maybe that's the direction you should try.

I was feeling itchy and in the mood for change this year, too, and realized that I'd always admired Jean's (greenglove) arty style and Janet's edgy/arty looks. Little by little, I'm introducing some arty and edgy elements into my style. If you can admire it in others, you can probably explore it yourself.

Shannon, my tastes are so eclectic, that's half the problem. I like just about every style when I see it worn in a certain way on a certain person.

I'm shying away from menswear inspired styles because I don't think they look as fab on my figure as they do on ladies like Angie and Rae. I may have to rethink that.

Anna, I'd love more dresses. It's hard finding nice dresses that aren't too short (for work) these days, but I'm on the lookout.

Deborah, I have three pairs of trousers I can wear to work. Two are best when it's chilly outside. I'm hoping to find a couple more season-spanning pants at NAS. Great suggestion about looking over MaryK's outfits again. I love her style!

Inge, fun ideas! I'll have to study up on the boyfriend jeans thing, because I'm not sure where to even find a pair. All the jeans I've seen lately are very fitted.

I see vintage and retro for Amy.

Your style reminds me of a beautiful wild bird. Lace, retro detailing, arty detailing, flamboyance, whimsy, always lady-like because you *are* a lady, and very playful - just like your great sense of humour.

Remember the retro outfit with the faux fur that you DAZZLED us with last year (party outfit for Xmas I think). Continue along that style journey.

I love the retro idea and it reminds me of the dress you showed us on the dress form (you were in progress of making it?). Can you work any retro elements into your current corporate look?
I know it must be hard when you get pressure at work to dress a certain way (I remember that corporate workshop story) but maybe some vintage accessories like handbag or jewelry to add flair to the jackets?
Pinterest is fun for giving me ideas.

I'm with Anna. How about full-skirted dresses with fitted bodices? That should suit your shape to a T, and look charmingly gamine with your hairstyle and lovely large eyes and cheeky smile

You can probably wear ANYTHING! Just try introducing one element at a time. If you like edgy UWP then introduce a super edgy jacket into your lovely outfits with the pencil skirts and blouses and heels. It's alway safe to just try it one piece at a time....one look at a time.

You've gotten some fabulous suggestions. In the meantime, if you are bored, you might take a bunch of stuff out of your closet and toss it willy-nilly on the bed. Then look for new combinatons that you haven't tried. You like color and might find new ways to put them together.
