I went to the Fossil store today and had a look at the watches I had liked on the website. They didn't work out IRL, I didn't like the look of the watches with rhine-stones on me. The one I liked best was this one:

As classic as it gets I guess. I'm just not sure if it isn't a bit boring? Can you see me in this one? Or should I keep looking? They'll hold the watch until tomorrow evening.

I went to the departement store later to look at other brands, but I didn't see anything I loved either. Most watches were too 'busy' looking IMO, with rhine-stones, three colors or whatever on the clock face.

I bought that classic watch for my sister; she's had it for about 2 yrs and it's going strong - loves it to pieces!

I love Fossil watches; mine has been with me for 4 yrs and is stylish as ever! About 10 cents cost-per-wear now!

It is gorgeous and not boring at all. I am a stainless steel fan! It looks like the face is nice and large too so that will make it more trendy.

I should add that it, and my Fossil bags are the parts of my wardrobe that gets the most consistent and plentiful compliments from various people... someone offered to buy my watch off me for about 3x what I paid for it. Nopppppeeeee!

Thanks, Meredith! It is fairly large, at least for my hands and wrists. It's a lot of watch in comparison to my current one!

I don't think you can go wrong with classic, Astrid. I see this fitting into your slightly "preppy" style quite nicely. Might be a nice juxtaposition with the boho too : )

Nothing wrong with a classic watch. I have one in silver and one in gold. I don't like the watches with all of the bling and rhinestones on them. I think classic is cooler than those kinds, they are kind of tacky to my eye.

Thanks Kelly. That makes sense. It definitely would go well with e.g. my breton stripe outfit yesterday. Not sure if it would work if I'm dressed on the boho side of the spectrum though.

CocoLion, yes! I liked the look of some with rhine-stones online but they were slightly tacky (that was the word I was searching for!) when I saw them for real. All you could see was bling.

Astrid - have you tried it on? I think the feel of it on your wrist is an important consideration for purchase

Yes, I tried all the different ones on. I'm still not totally sure about the real feel because the band was still too big (they said they would shorten it when I decide to buy it), but it was the nicest one from the metal ones I tried. Although I have to say that I thought the leather bands were more comfortable.

I love this watch Astrid! Classic is good, not boring. This way you won't tire of it quickly. I've been looking at a few of the white Fossil watches for summer but like you, I'm not into the blingy looking ones and like more simple.

I enjoy it's classic style and the larger size and color (rose gold) keep it from being boring. I also don't like watches with rhinestones or too much going on.

I like that watch, but honestly it is not saying 'Astrid' to me. I can picture you better wearing a watch with a leather band in a nice burgundy/brown color and a gold face. (I don't know about gold though--how that fits with your other jewelry, but for your coloring it seems more right.)

Thanks for chiming in, Scarlet! I know what you mean. I like the watch above too, but I WAS unsure if it fit. I can see me wearing a burgundy leather band, although maybe not brown. I don't wear any gold at all actually, so I think I definitely want a silver watch. The ones I originally looked at on the website had leather bands and I liked the idea of the look for me. I think I'm going to browse for some options, maybe I find pictures of some watches I like.

I've just spent some time searching but I simply can't find an oversized watch with a leather band that I like. I discovered a men's watch (with a mesh band) I really like, it's simple but has that lovely retro look all the same.

Hm, I have a slight preference for the second one. It seems more feminine but still has that effortlessly cool vibe that Denise alluded to.

I'm no help - I love the first one until I saw the second. The only thing about the mesh band is my Skagen eventually snagged and I had to replace the band, but I think both look pretty classic.

Yes, I think so too! The first one is great and it was the best one in the store, but there were only Fossil watches there. Now I looked everywhere. I think the second one is more me, the first one is very "sporty" in comparison. Mind that I have no idea if the second one would fit me anyway, I'd have to try it first.

Thanks, Jjsloane! I've never had a problem with my Skagen mesh band until now and I bought that watch 8 years ago. That would be a bonus point for the second one too, I just love how comfortable these mesh bands are.

I really, really like this watch -- it will never go out of style. I'm very fussy about my accessories not snagging anything, so a mesh strap might bother me (per Jjsloane's comment). But if you're set on a leather strap, have you checked out Citizen watches? They're a little more expensive than Fossil, but they run on solar power and so never need a battery. The women's watches aren't very oversized (although they are really pretty -- I got tons of compiments on mine) but maybe the men's collection would have something for you? But that said, I very much like the Fossil watch and vote yay for that one.

Astrid, I think the first watch, while nice, seems a little too heavy and masculine for your style. I much prefer the second one with the mesh band - it still has the great oversized face but the band is more feminine.

Thanks, Megan! I'm not set on a leather strap, I just thought it would be nice for a change because my current watch has a mesh strap. I never had problems with snagging with my current one, so I don't think that matters. I've seen some Citizen watches when I was in the departement store today, but there wasn't one that caught my eye. But maybe I'll have to go back with a bit more time to spare and take a close look on the men's collection. I really think the Fossil watch is great and I like the style, I'm just not sure it's the right thing for me. Scarlet was right when she said it somehow wasn't 'Astrid'.

Thanks, Scarlet. I know that it looks very similar, I guess the big difference would be the size. I don't like square watches at all, so I'm not a fan of the one you linked too.
