My Avatar is a picture of me. I change it periodically for no reason.

When I signed up for YLF I asked Mr SF what my name should be and he picked Style Fan.

My real name is Janet. I was a bit paranoid about using my real name at first. I have gotten over that.

It's the ending of my real (anglicized) first name that's why not majusculed at all and was born in 67, guess this is easy:-)

Wow... loved reading thru this thread.

When I was a kid, I loved to make handmade cards, which I always "branded". Karen Kards Karry Love....and when I 1st joined YLF I want sure about this whole strangers knowing my name thing...and then when I became confortabke with it, it just seemed odd to suddenly "change" my name Lol.
As for my avatar--it's a flower because that's what I picked when I 1st signed up and I guess I've never really thought about it since. Hmmm...I quess I really should think about making it a little more personal

I so enjoyed reading this!-)

Mine is super simple: Inge is my real name, and my avatar, which I change occasionally, is a picture of me at the seaside this Summer. The asymmetrical fringe is gone now, and I need to change the photo

This is s great thread!

My YLF name Deborah, is my real name. After spending some time reading YLF prior to joining, I felt very comfortable using my name here:). I change my avatar every so often and it's usually cropped from an outfit photo:).

Ryce was my mom's name, but not the name she "went by". I have always liked it and sometimes regret that I didn't pass it on to one of my daughters.
My avatar is my favorite chair, where I am often sitting when I read and post here. I chose it because to me it represents the attributes I would
like to express in my personal style: classic, simple, modern and with something a little unexpected (in the chair's case the ivory color instead of the more oft seen black).

It's been lovely to read about everyone.
Helen is my given name, and as there was at least one other here when I joined, I added the "11" to almost-rhyme. My avatar is a child's drawing of me. I don't have the shirt pictured anymore, but I wore it a lot!

Hi my Avatar is one of mine in one of my favourite bra's Primadonna Deauville 44F Hawaiian Dream colour and DDtop came from i was 46D/44DD till a while after the T they gave me for my low T from Pituitary tumour/Prolactinoma which then made them grow a lot!
The x was added as it's my Twitter handle also
But i thought up DDtop from a slight on the group ZZtop!

Mind one of my friends on another forum say's are you going to change to GGtop? now fit into them! lol

What a lovely thread, Angie! I have enjoyed reading everyone's story.

My real name is Susan. This is a very common name among women five to fifteen years older than me but less common among those in my exact age group; it can be explained by the fact that my mother was older and her tastes would have formed along with the mothers of the other Susans.

When people meet me they sometimes say, oh, it must have been a pain going through school, but in fact I was the only one in my class going through from K until university (and even then I didn't know more than a couple).

The avatar is a not-very-good photo of me. I should try to update with a better one, but oh well.

The screen name, Suz, is a pet name used by a few close friends. I don't like to be called Susie or Sue but I do like the homey affectionate slightly silly sound of Suz and I knew that YLF would feel like that kind of place to me.

This is so fun and interesting! There are a lot I've wondered about. Thank you all for sharing. Ginger is my real nickname; my true name is Virginia, named after my great-great Auntie Ve. I was always called Ginger, which has been great, except for when a few people have thought it necessary to inform me it was a dog's name. :p

My avatar is me in costume. This one is a historical interpretation of Princess Leia. It struck me that her hairstyle is very similar to certain medieval beaded headdresses, and her gown is not dissimilar to a basic tunic style dress. So all elements of the outfit are medieval in shape and design, though deliberately using non-period materials instead of medieval (poly jersey, sequins and glass pearls, metal tassels). The exception is the belt, which is as screen accurate as I could get it. The headdress is merely a seamed net. it gets all the shape from the Princess Leia hairstyle underneath.

It does feel strange to do a costume avatar on a fashion forum. But these are usually the best-taken photos I have; the rest are my own selfies.

Staysfit is a play on words with multiple meanings. People in my family love words and word games. Stays are a fashion term with some unfortunate feminist connotations, and fit is self evident. The playful part is that I am very athletic, have run marathons, taught and coached swimming, and sailing. I water ski, paddle board, canoe and kayak, hike, snow shoe, and I regularly do Pilates and Yoga. I still run but not as much. So the Stays fit is also literal.

My avatar is a picture of me with my son playing around doing photo bombs while I played around doing selfies. He was particularly proud of the outcome of this photo, so I used it, not having any reason to disappoint him. It's always nice put a smile on his face!

Fun read! I've always wondered about member screen names

My name is a combo of my married and abreviated maiden name. When we were engaged, we had great fun coming up with hybrid last names. This stuck as a wink-n-nod to the "Brangelina" supercouples of the time. It's also on my license plate!

It's time to change my pic, as I just had my hair cut much shorter two days ago -- and love it!

WOW. GREAT THREAD. I'm very entertained reading about your names and avatars. Thank you for indulging me! (Those who are using their real name with a real photo or automatically generated one - NOT boring at all. We need those in the mix too. It's ALL good).

Cindy, the beachy waves look super.

My name is the name of my former hand dyed yarn company (because yarn would make really chewy spaghetti!) The pic I am currently using is one that I took of Hogwarts at Universal Studios.

My real name is Elizabeth. Most people know me as Liz.

Appropriated Edge is a wordplay and my personal interpretation of an age-appropriate style. I hate the very concept but I can’t deny the reality.

Approprio is the Italian word for “I appropriate”, it’s a verb and not an adjective, it has nothing to do with being appropriate, and everything to do with appropriation.

The avatar shows my favourite studded belt with slouchy jeans, a white tee and a square-faced sports watch standing in for my TAG Heuer Monaco.

It's fun to read these stories! Khris, I never knew the origin of chewyspaghetti, and Joy, I never knew you weren't really "Joy"!

I'm boring. I just used my real first name, and was surprised to discover over time how many other Janets there are here. It was a popular name back in the 50s and 60s but seems to have fallen out of fashion. I know one Janet who is in her 20s, but all the rest are in my generation or a little older. Fun fact, my parents almost named me Amy.

The photo in my avatar is just a selfie I took about a year and a half ago, with my birthday present from my Big 5-0 in Amsterdam, a vintage pair of sunglasses that we had fitted with my prescription. I don't wear them every day because they are quite fragile, but I love wearing them on the occasions when I do!

My real name is Linda. One day I wanted to post something on YLF (I'd lurked for years), but every Linda name I tried was taken so I tacked what I do in front of Linda and that worked. I don't particularly like my user name so might change it one day.

I write science fiction/fantasy and also romance novels under a pen name. They keep me in shoes and out of trouble. My style has nothing to do with my writing, other than that mine is a solitary vocation with little public interaction other than weddings, funerals, visits with friends, and the occasional genre convention. Whatever the occasion, even just sitting at my desk for writing, I like to look unaffectedly stylish.

The avatar is a YLF option. I could put up a picture of my smiling face, I suppose. It's just a face, though, and the avatar is a cheerful flower.

My name is my nickname (short for Sylvia). 55 because I'm, well, 57 now. Avatar is me with my senior cat Molly in her younger days. Mine, too. Aside from being a flattering photo it reflects my love of animals -- my full-of-life household includes 3 cats, 2 dogs, an aquatic turtle, 2 teen sons and a hubby.

This is such a fun read. When I first joined the this site, I knew I didn't want to use my first name so I picked citygirldc because I told myself I'd never live in the suburbs once I moved out from my parents home.
I still have no desire to move back but I'm sure that will change in the future. My dream was to move to NYC and live the city life but instead I made it to heart of of Washington, D.C. so technically I am living the citygirl life. The photo is the most recent pic since my hair is growing out, although I just trimmed it and have slight blunt bang.

Author Linda, now I want to know your pen name so I can look for your books.

And I always assumed Joy was really Joy, because it suits you so well.

Oh, this is so entertaining! My real name is Filomena ( with a short e, rather than the more common long e in the final syllable), named after my Italian dad's favorite sister who passed away when she was 13. My husband and I moved from landlocked big cities to a tiny seaside town after a health event that changed his life, and the yearning for a less stressed way of life. Our condo is located right by the seaside and I wake to lovely sunrises and calm waves most every morning, hence the nickname. The avatar was a YLF option that made me smile, but may toy with getting a little more real.

April is *not* my proper name, but the month of my birthday. When my sister is on the forum, (which is on and off and not in a long time), she uses her middle name, which is Mae, and which we find amusing.

When I first joined YLF, I was in a bit of a gossipy work situation and preferred for my colleagues not to know when I was buying shoes or going for a bra fitting. So, no photos including my face and no real names. The habit stuck.

Before I married him, Mr. April used to be referred to on the forum as "SO" ("Significant Other"). It was quite an adjustment for him to get used to having a new YLF name.

Ed was Edwyn my last labradog. He was a lab / golden retriever cross and we got him as puppy carers as he was off to be a seeing eye dog. My husband brought him home sometime after my mum died as I had loved my goldie as a kid. Needless to say he became the love of my life at my side as I grieved my mum, brought up my kids and did my PhD. My uni colleagues even awarded him an honourary PhD complete with an upside down dog dish. Through various circumstances, I even got to keep him 15 years not the original 6 months. So being Jen, it seemed fun for us to be an avatar together with his picture.

Hi! My username is BC, which is short for Betty Crocker. I love to cook and bake, so the name is appropriate I think.

My real name is Renelle.

My avatar is just the one assigned to me by YLF. I like it, though, so there's no reason to change it.

My name is the nickname of a brown chow I inherited after my mom passed away. Her name was Sheena. She used to spin in circles really fast like Taz from bugs bunny so I nicknamed her She devil, and eventually Shedev. My real name is Cheri, nickname Cher.
My picture is cancer ribbon embroidered on a Columbia jacket.

I haven't been on the forum for a while, but I popped back in today and couldn't resist this thread--what fun!

My avatar is one of the YLF flower options, but not the one I was originally assigned. I picked it because it looked similar to the rose that I wore on my college graduation gown.

My YLF name is KL because I wanted an internet pseudonym that was distinct from my OTHER internet pseudonym which I use across most sites. It begins with a K and I have a few friends who call me by that name or an abbreviated version of it, so on the internet I think of it as my "first name." So then my "middle name" would be my real-life first name, which is the ever-proliferating Lisa.

I'm not used to forums where many people go by their real names rather than a pseudonym, and anyway there are so many Lisa's already that KL stuck.

This has been fun to read!

I'm quite boring. My real name is Robin - I never liked it as a kid but grew to appreciate it more as an adult - and the pic is one of me Summer 2014, at a wedding. I think I need to update it although I haven't changed much

What a fun thread! My user name is a variation of my first name. I chose it because there were so many Deb's, Debbie's, Deborah's and Debra's on the forum at the time. I do think we do a pretty good job of keeping us all straight.

My avatar is me! If you click on it, you will see that I am sitting atop a pony. I'm a child of the 1950's, when traveling photographers used to roam the neighborhoods selling pony pictures. What you probably can't see is that I have tears in my eyes. I was not happy about it at all!

You can read more about vintage pony pictures here:
http://stowandtellu.com/stowaw.....on-a-pony/
Does anyone else have one?

What a fun thread! I need to update my avatar - it's a cropped outfit photo from a while back (probably 3 years ago). I chose 'amiable' first here because it's a play on my name ('Amy'), and an attribute that I hope to live up to also. I sometimes wish I'd chose 'Amelia' instead, because I've always liked Amelia Earhart and consider her a bit of an icon.

It's been fun reading these . . . Tulle is actually my middle name, and the nickname of my father's favorite sister. (Her real name was Aphrodite--honest!) She was a fashion illustrator, so it seemed an appropriate little private tribute. My real name is Candace. Oh--and Amy/Amiable, my daughter's name is Amelia! (After another of my father's sisters. He had eight of them.)
