I think this outfit is a loser.

Trying to wear a summer eBay score that I fear will be an orphan (horizontal striped shell). Paired it with this long flyaway cardi.

My thoughts: cardi is too long for me.

Vertical ribbing on cardi fights with horizontal stripes on shell.

I have no idea what (if any) style of necklace will go with this top.

Am I right? I don't yet trust my judgment, so appreciate the input of YLFers. Thank you!

Ann, I'm no expert, but to my eye, it looks like the shell might work better with a more structured topper. In this outfit, it feels a little like the drapiness of the cowl neck is fighting with the drapiness of the cardigan. I like both items quite a bit though - just not sure they are a match for one another. I am also wondering how that shell will look under your denim jacket...or a utility jacket, if you happen to have one.

Ann, I don't see this outfit as a loser! I love the color of the shell. It may be the light of the photo, though, but I think the issue may be in the color tones? The shell is more on the blue/purple end of the spectrum whereas the cardigan is very yellow-toned. What about a denim jacket over the shell instead, and a silver pendant necklace?

I would agree that the cardi is too long for this outfit. You can totally wear this shell with these pants (jeans? I can't really tell), but if you had a topper in a dark or brighter color that ends at about the same length as the shell, you would be more in balance.

Also, a darker sock inside your shoe to lengthen your leg line!

A statement necklace - black or silver? - that fits just inside the scoop neck of the shell would also be great.

I think your judgement is spot on about the cardi! I fully believe that taking pictures of our outfits reveals what is bugging us about them.

I think this shell would work great with a tailored black blazer. The colors don't seem to go on my monitor. It's good to take pics so we can figure out what's going on - and I don't think any outfit is a loser if something is learned!

I agree with the idea of utility jacket or tailored black jacket. Necklace might clash with the cowl neckline. Maybe a bracelet or dangly earrings instead.
Is anyone else tried of the draped cardigan? I know it's feminine and easy to wear, but it has been causing me to yawn lately...

Nicole, I'm tired of the draped cardigan! Trouble is, I have closet full of them, and feel naked without a topper in all seasons but summer.

The cardigan is great, as far as I'm concerned. Just not with this outfit. It would look fantastic over a column of black for an evening out, the length making it too dressy and dramatic to be worn with jeans. But in the right context, it would be a real winner!

Get hubby to take you out to a restaurant. A nice one. ;o) There has to be some event upcoming you can celebrate. Invent one if need be.

If you arent loving the length of the cardi anymore take the longest ends and tie them behind your neck. You still get the drapey but just a shorter version of it.
