This was supposed to just be a test of a new pattern I was interested in. I'd say the pattern worked out pretty well. I haven't sewn the waistband or hemmed them yet, and they certainly will need a good pressing...but I may be the proud new owner of pink pants.

What do you think? Is the fit ok (try to ignore the color for a moment)? You can be honest with me.

If they're not a travesty, what does one wear with pink pants so one doesn't look like Barbie?

Recommendations for pear figures to wear darker colors on their bottoms may be valid. These pants make my bottom look enormous. I don't care...much, lol.

You are such a clever seamstress Amy! Im not good at this, but I wonder if they are a bit big around the hip area?? The leg line looks good and the color is actually quite nice.. and they don't make your bottom look big

Thanks, Deborah. They could be a bit big over the hips, or the in-seam pockets could be causing them to flare out a bit there. I'll try making them narrower there to see what happens.

Were they supposed to be slouchy? I like the fit from behind but something seems a bit off in the front: they look like bagging a bit on the side but it may be fixable.
As for the color: I hear you on the light pants but who cares? You can offset the sweetness of pink with more neutral and masculine or graphic items.
I am in awe of your sewing skills...

I am so in awe of your mad skillz! I do think these aren't as flattering as they might be in the pelvic region. All three angles look a bit unfitted to me.

And I think you would find things in your closet to wear with pink pants. They will always look fresh with white!

But I'm not sure the fit's right on these yet. Though you would know better. It may be a question of the pressing, as you mentioned.

I know it's not helpful, but I feel like something is off, I'm just not sure what it is. I think perhaps Sveta and IK are on to something. It's the pelvic/thigh region. From the way they are fitting you right now, they do look as if they are supposed to be slouchy.

Oh man, making pants is so hard! I can't believe you made a whole pair just as a test! Amazing! I like the wide waist band and the fact that the pockets are on the seam. Is that a tab waist? I think if you press them out, the perceived fit issues might melt away. If not, they only need a few minor adjustments to be perfect, IMO. Nice work Amy!

Good work, Amy! I'm not the pants expert, so I'll let those ladies puzzle the fit out. It looks sloucherific fine to me!

Colour-wise, it's kind of a salmon-pink, isn't it? I think it would look best with greys (solids or patterns). It's definitely not a look you see on the bottom everyday, but I say if you like them, play around with styling and have fun with them!

I've made the legs narrower and I think they may be a bit better if not perfect now. I'll run them past you in a few days.

Helen, the pink does have a little bit of orange in it...so very slightly salmon in color.

Haha, you accidentally produced pink pants--sounds like you were in a lab and there was a giant poof!:)

That said, and reiterating how genius a seamstress you are and how solid and well-made I'm sure the trousers are, I agree with you that pockets such as those have a tendency to flare or pop out and create an illusion of extra width. The PPL looks well-done; to me, from the rear, especially, they look a little loose (though that can be a matter of taste as well as comfort preference). I definitely think they will come in good use in a casual setting...maybe not office wear, but they're fun and obviously served as good practice for your next (non-pink) pair! PS: pink looks great on you.

I think the trousers have great potential if you eliminate the side entry pockets. How do you feel about doing that?

I love the color but agree they look a bit off in the crotch area. I was just reading a book called Pants For Real People: Fit and Sew For Any Body by Pati Palmer and Marta Alto that you might like. They do pattern fitting before actually sewing the garment and the book is chock full of fixes for all kinds of problems on ladies with all kinds of body shapes. With lots of pictures.

Angie, I've removed the pockets. You're right. I think that improved them a bit.

TeeandCee, thanks for the suggestion. I have that book and use it. You're right. It's a really good one. I still like to make a muslin before cutting into the good fabric. Sometimes, alterations don't work out like you think they should, lol.

Unlike their other book, Fit for Real People, the authors instruct you to do a lot of fitting as you sew in the pants book. Even when I sew the same pants pattern over and over again, different fabrics make them fit differently, which is a good reason for fitting as you go.

I also made pink pants by accident recently: I washed my husband's off-white Wranglers with my neon-pink Gap tee shirt.

He was really unhappy!

Amy, I haven't sewn for long but have already experienced the alterations issues, lol. I'm actually going to get the other book and had only checked this one out to see what it was all about. I don't foresee myself ever tackling pants.

Wow, I am so impressed with your sewing ability. You can rock those pink pants with plenty of things. White, grey, and lighter neutral for summer and then for fall/winter, bright out the navy, black, even a rich chocolate would work!

I'm going to have to say, though, that I don't get the fuss over the colour? I recall having a pair of jeans that very shade of pink --- well, okay, it was back in the 90s, so maybe that explains the fuss. But I adored them! Remember wearing them with white cowboy shirt, grey waffle knit T-shirt, and mint and grey pullover (what would now be called colour-blocked, was then just... um... in two colours?).
