How to accessorise a plain dress . . ?

Ok, here goes! Me and a bunch of friends are performing Alexandra Burke's Hallilujah on stage in a couple of weeks. We've decided to all wear silver dresses, but different from eachothers. Since the budjet is pretty tight I bought a very plain (cheap!) grey dress - with really subtle silver sparkle. I know I need to glam it up with accessories to bring out the sparkle more but wondered if anyone had some suggestions . . ? If you have any ideas at all on how to liven it up I'd be really grateful.

Are you free to use whatever color accessories you want?
You probably want a statement necklace of some kind- in either black, pearls, or a jewel tone (sapphire or red come to mind) It seems that something without color (diamonds/rhinestones) would get lost on the dress.
Your other option is a glitzy scarf.
and, or course some shoes with pizzazz...
Can you post a picture of yourself in the dress?

Or, the messy JCrew inspired pearl look but with silver necklaces instead?

Hmmm, I'm not familiar with the performance. But, considering the time of year & budget you could really think outside the box & get some fun funky garland but use as a necklace instead (cut off if needed). It won't work with any garland but just the right one might be fun & a hoot as well! Ha - I might have to try that as a belt for our annual christmas outfit get together with family!! Ok, I'm digressing big time now but what about a cool ornament but use it as a pendant on your dress instead & put it on a simple long silver chain or something...Again, have to be just the right one but there are so many options out there. The possibilities are endless!

How about a cheap strand of imitation pearl beads and a corsage in your hair, this one is from Anthro but you would find something similar at H&M etc

Red shoes come to mind. (If you can wear a color)/ Black would also be a nice contrast with silver.

Ha ha, certainly found the perfect shoes - silver, strappy heels that I can actually walk in! I love the idea of black accessories but my dress is quite a dark grey and I really want to brighten it up so think the glitzy scarf is definitley a favourite. The 'pearls and corsage' combo is also a contender.
I reckon we'll end up with one of us doing pearls, another black jewels and so on since we all want to dress our own way. But yeah, statement jewelry for sure!

With dark gray I love yellow, pink, purple, cobalt. How about a clutch purse in one of these pops of color?

ATL has a pretty scarf right now - perfect for the holidays. It is cream, gray, beige with subtle shimmer. I saw it in their store last week - not seeing it online now.
