How does Pinterest work?

I "requested an invitation" from Pinterest, so I could start using it. They sent me an email thanking me for my request, and said they would be sure to send me an invitation soon. What the heck? Are they checking my credit rating or running a background check, or what :)?

I think they receive tons of invite requests and have a serious backlog. I actually never got a direct invite from Pinterest. Once you have an account, you can invite friends. I think that would be the fastest way to get started. If you like, I can send you an invitation right now. Just PM me your email address and I'll get on it:-)

It's much faster to get from a member than wait for the site - Put the little Pin It icon in your task bar and you are ready to Pin

Jonesy, given what Greg said in his recent post, you might just want to be careful what you post on pinterest, since it's public, as far as I can tell. I know that as a prof, you want to keep yourself a bit anonymous...

Pinterest is a lot of fun, but just to warn folks -- I'm seeing some trouble with spambots, and there is no way to block them on Pinterest (!).
