How do you wear chunky necklaces with a turtleneck?

I've started to wear big chunky necklaces (love the jcrew ones) with crewneck tops. This is a totally new thing for me, because I've never liked crewneck before, until I started pairing them with these necklaces. I would love to wear turtlenecks now, but was wondering if it is possible to wear big necklaces with them? It just looks strange to me...maybe my eye isn't there yet?

I think that they look great with turtlenecks as long as the top is not too thick, cabled or chunky.

GG is spot on. I wear fine gauge turtle necks all the time - it's my favourite neckline. I wear LONG chunky necklaces over them and it works well.

May I ask (without stealing the thread) what kind of jewelry goes best with a chunky T-neck, for example, Jcrew cable knit?

I'm asking because for Iceland next week I should probably pack my chunky Jcrew cable knit T-necks, and I have no clue about jewelry! I used to just wear earrings and no necklace. T-necks (even fine gauge) are not my look anyway (neck way too short) - I wear them anyhow in really cold weather, simply because they are practical and warm.

Shiny, how about a scarf instead of a necklace? It may be easier to achieve balance and add a spot of color. Otherwise a long chained pendant or long beads should work out. I have some chunky long beads with a large pendant that work especially well for winter sweaters but look too heavy with summer things.

I completely agree with Joy. Instead of the chunky look i prefer a long chain with a moderate pendant. You can even try a gemstone pendant on a long chain.

I would pop an extender on the chunky necklace with the turtleneck (assuming you need more length anyway). Sometimes I pop 2 extenders on a necklace you'd be amazed at the versatility you get out of your jewelry by doing this (with 1 or 2).

For the T-neck - is that like a boat neck? If so, I'd do a necklace with a pendant drop - something that drops a few inches below the neckline of the shirt (an extender or 2 might be helpful here as well depending on the necklace).

Depending on your jewelry connection, if you don't have an extender & have a collar on your shirt/dress/jacket - sometimes you can get away with attaching a simple bracelet to a necklace in the back (assuming the clasps work together). Sounds silly I know but it can work in a pinch!
