Ever since I was 18, my hair length has followed a cyclical pattern. Just after high school graduation, I chopped my really long hair off into a chin length bob. I liked the change, but couldn't be bothered with the effort of keeping a short hairstyle, well, short. I let it grow out and trimmed every 6 months or so so it always hovered between my collar bones and my chin.

Then I decided to let it grow out completely. I let it get very far down my back and occasionally highlighted it. However, I found that I was mostly pulling it back in a plain bun or a pony tail, as I have never been the type to style my long hair on a daily basis.

Around 2 years ago, I took the plunge and got a pixy cut. It was a massive change and for the first few weeks I didn't even recognise myself. But a similar thing happened re the upkeep (a haircut every 6 weeks was expensive and time consuming). Now, after two years and a summer where I had a mullet (just had to push through!), my hair is long again and I'm getting bored with it.

How do you know when it's time to change your length or colour? I've been toying with the idea of both, but I'm a bit apprehensive about taking the plunge.

I've included some pics of my various hair lengths over the years. I've been thinking of a straight edged bob - something classic, but simple and easy to style. What do you think?
