Help - is it too dressy

Hi! I bought the dress in the link below and now I don't now how to wear it. Now it just seems too dressy for everything... First it looked like I would be able to wear it even on a normal day to go to college, now I think it's too dressy for even a concert. I'd hate to have it sit in my wardrobe forever, i like the dress, I'm just not sure how/where to dress it.
Any guidance would be appreciated: Is it too dressy for a day dress? Where would you wear it?

I don't think it's too dressy--pair with it a slouchy cardigan and some boots and I think you'll be good to go for an ordinary day of college!

It looks like casual day dress to me, it is jersey, right? Not a dressy dress by any means. I would definitely wear it for regular non-dressy activities, including going to college. If you wear a little denim jacket over it that would dress it down more and cover the lace, if that detail makes it look dressy to you.

It looks like a day dress to me as well. Lace for day has been around at least a couple of years. The dress is covered up and the style seems relaxed and casual to me.

It looks like a very pretty day dress to me. Have you tried wearing it over skinny jeans or leggings? I do this quite often when going for a more casual look. I also like the idea of wearing it with a denim jacket and boots.

Oh cool, I like these responses! I guess I'm still getting used to wearing dresses, and in my head black goes straight into night time...

It's actually not jersey, it's heavier, the fabric looks almost like suit fabric, is also what makes me a bit reluctant (I'm not great with fabrics xD )

It's a fantastic dress. I think it will be versatile, dress it up or down. Too nice, of course, to paint walls in, but other than that... !!

Are you on a leggings-and-yoga-pants campus? Or a somewhat more dressed up one? If your campus is really dressed down, you may just need to plan to feel a little awkward wearing a dress until you get used to it.

And know you're going to get some comments and be prepared for them: "You're wearing a dress!" "I know, isn't it great!"
"You're so dressed up!" "Thanks for noticing!"
"Why are you so dressed up?" "I felt like it!"

It's quite varied, you have people in sweatpants, jeans, dresses, blouses and blazers.... I myself wear dresses sometimes, I'm just not good at evaluating the type of dress and which occasions is ok to wear it, and this one suddenly just seems too dressy for day wear.
Yeah, there are people that wonder why am I wearing a dress "Are you doing something special later?", somehow this garment for most people is associated with dressing up, when I think it's just quite comfortable, way more than a pair of jeans...

To some people, any dress seems dressy. Please yourself. Denim dresses down everything. Boots or booties or maybe even sneakers. The sleeves look to me to be the most dressy part, but covered with a jacket or cardigan,they won't show.

Looks like a great casual dress. You could definitely put a denim jacket over it. A casual scarf thrown around your neck too. Another topper choice like an olive cotton parka would dress it down nicely. You could even try leggings under it.

Looks versatike and easy yo style different ways!
Ways to dress down are to add warmer neutrals like gray ribbed tights, brown or cognac leather boots in more casual style than a dressy black boot; denim jacket idea is great, or a puffer vest, wooly cardigan, even a plaid shirt! Distressed leather handbag or backpack. All of those items read as not precious, more cozy and sporty. Then you can flip it and wear it with more refined footwear, polished accessories for going out.

I know that feeling - it's been only a month since I started wearing skirts and dresses again, and everything I look at seems so fancy! Or girly or sexy.

But I do like this one. I think it'd be a great staple for layering with, you could really go anywhere with it depending on what you add. Jewelry+heels = dinnerware. Sleevless vest + booties = datewear . Parka+hat = day wear.

I feel like this dress needs to go in my wishlist

I wore skirts mostly when I was at college, at that was some years ago before skirts and dresses came back into fashion. Sometimes I would get comments, but my friends and classmates quickly got used to the way I dressed. This is a great dress, with a lot of potential for either dressing up for dressing down. Footwear (and legwear) can make a big difference in how casual is can look. Go you!

This can be dressed up or played down. I think a scarf and a pair of boots would be just fine for a day dress. I also love the idea of using denim with this.
